1. Introduction to Lean Production | 精益生产简介
Lean production originated from the Toyota Production System (TPS) in Japan and has since been adopted worldwide. At its core, lean focuses on creating value for the customer with fewer resources by systematically identifying and eliminating waste (known as ‘muda’ in Japanese). It challenges conventional batch-and-queue thinking and shifts the focus to continuous flow and pull systems.

- Inappropriate processing – using overly complex equipment when simpler tools would suffice.
- Inventory – holding excess raw materials, work-in-progress, or finished goods, which conceals problems and uses space.
- Motion – unnecessary movement of people, such as walking to fetch tools or bending to pick items.
- Defects – producing faulty items that require rework or scrapping, wasting materials and time.
- 过度生产 – 生产超过需求或提前生产,占用资金且掩盖缺陷。
- 等待 – 工人或机器在等待材料、指令或维修时的空闲时间。

An eighth waste – underutilisation of employees’ talents – is often added in modern lean frameworks, highlighting the importance of involving workers in improvement activities. In exam contexts, identifying the specific waste in a case study demonstrates high-level analytical skill.

3. Just-in-Time (JIT) | 准时制生产
Just-in-Time is a lean method where materials, components, and finished goods arrive exactly when needed, in the exact quantities required. This eliminates the need to hold large buffer stocks and reduces storage, handling, and obsolescence costs.

JIT relies on close relationships with reliable suppliers who can deliver frequently and in small batches. In OCR exams, candidates may be asked to evaluate the benefits and risks of JIT, such as enhanced cash flow versus vulnerability to supply chain disruptions.
