1. Overview of the Specification |

The WJEC International GCSE in Science (Double Award) is designed to develop students’ scientific knowledge, understanding, and practical skills across three disciplines. The course leads to two IGCSE grades, which are reported on a scale from A* to G. The specification places a strong emphasis on how science works and its relevance to everyday life, requiring learners to apply concepts to both familiar and unfamiliar situations.

The total qualification is linear, meaning all examinations are taken at the end of the course. There is no coursework component; instead, practical skills are assessed through written exam questions. This makes it essential to be familiar with experimental procedures and data analysis without having to compile a portfolio of practical work. Students must be able to describe techniques, evaluate data, and suggest improvements to investigations.
