1. Mass and Weight | 质量与重量

Mass is the amount of matter in an object. It is measured in kilograms (kg) and is a scalar quantity.

Mass does not change with location; an object has the same mass on Earth and on the Moon.

质量不随位置改变;物体在地球和月球上的质量相同。

Weight is the gravitational force acting on an object’s mass. It is measured in newtons (N) and is a vector.

重量是作用在物体质量上的引力,单位为牛顿(N),是矢量。

W = m × g

On Earth, gravitational field strength g ≈ 9.8 N/kg. A 1 kg mass weighs about 9.8 N. On the Moon, g ≈ 1.6 N/kg, so the same mass weighs only 1.6 N.

2. Heat and Temperature | 热量与温度

Temperature measures the average kinetic energy of particles in a substance. It is measured in degrees Celsius (°C) or kelvin (K).

Heat is the total thermal energy transferred from a hotter object to a colder one due to a temperature difference. It is measured in joules (J).

Adding heat to a substance can raise its temperature, but during a change of state (e.g., melting), temperature remains constant while the substance absorbs latent heat.

Temperature does not depend on the amount of substance, but the total heat content does. A bath of warm water has more heat energy than a spark, even though the spark has a higher temperature.

3. Speed and Velocity | 速率与速度

Speed is a scalar quantity that tells how fast an object moves, defined as distance divided by time. Units: metres per second (m/s).

speed = distance / time (v = d / t)

Velocity is a vector quantity; it includes both speed and direction. Two objects with the same speed can have different velocities if they move in different directions.
