1. Forces and Motion | 力与运动

Scalars have magnitude only (e.g. speed, distance, mass, energy). Vectors have both magnitude and direction (e.g. velocity, displacement, force, acceleration).

标量只有大小(如速率、距离、质量、能量)。矢量既有大小又有方向(如速度、位移、力、加速度)。

Newton’s First Law: An object remains at rest or in uniform straight-line motion unless a resultant force acts on it. Inertia is the tendency to resist changes in motion.

牛顿第一定律:物体保持静止或匀速直线运动状态,除非受到非零合力作用。惯性是抵抗运动状态变化的趋势。

Resultant force causes acceleration: F = m × a. If the resultant force is zero, the object is either at rest or moving at constant velocity.

Weight is the force of gravity on a mass: W = m × g, where g ≈ 9.8 m/s² on Earth, and it acts towards the centre of the planet.

Velocity-time graphs: gradient gives acceleration, area under graph gives displacement. Distance-time graph gradient gives speed.

Stopping distance = thinking distance + braking distance. Thinking distance is affected by driver’s reaction time; braking distance depends on speed, road surface, tyre grip and brake condition.

Momentum p = m × v (kg m/s). In a closed system, total momentum before a collision equals total momentum after, provided no external forces act.

Hooke’s Law: extension of a spring is directly proportional to the applied force, F = k × x, up to the limit of proportionality.

2. Energy | 能量

Energy can be stored in different forms: kinetic (Eₖ = ½ m v²), gravitational potential (Eₚ = m g h), elastic potential (Eₑ = ½ k x²), thermal (internal), chemical, magnetic, nuclear and electrostatic.

能量可以不同形式储存:动能 (Eₖ = ½ m v²)、重力势能 (Eₚ = m g h)、弹性势能 (Eₑ = ½ k x²)、热能(内能)、化学能、磁能、核能和静电势能。

Energy is transferred between stores via mechanical work, electrical work, heating or radiation. The principle of conservation of energy states that energy is never created or destroyed, only transferred.

能量通过机械功、电功、加热或辐射在不同储存间转移。能量守恒原理指出能量既不会创生也不会消失,只会转移。

Work done (J) = force (N) × distance moved in the direction of force (m). Power (W) = energy transferred (J) / time (s) or work done / time.

Efficiency = useful output energy transfer / total input energy transfer. It can be expressed as a decimal or percentage, and is always less than 1 (or 100%) due to wasted energy, often dissipated as thermal energy.

Non-renewable resources: fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) and nuclear fuel. Renewable resources: solar, wind, tidal, wave, hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass. They are used for electricity generation and heating, with different environmental impacts.

3. Waves | 波

Waves transfer energy without transferring matter. Transverse waves have vibrations perpendicular to direction of travel (e.g. light, water waves). Longitudinal waves have vibrations parallel to direction of travel (e.g. sound, seismic P-waves).

波传递能量而不传递物质。横波的振动方向垂直于传播方向(如光波、水波)。纵波的振动方向平行于传播方向(如声波、地震纵波P波)。

Wave speed v = f × λ, where f is frequency (Hz) and λ is wavelength (m). Period T = 1/f. Amplitude is the maximum displacement from rest position.

Reflection: angle of incidence = angle of reflection, measured from the normal. Refraction occurs when waves change speed entering a different medium, causing change in direction unless hitting the boundary normally.

The electromagnetic spectrum, in order of increasing frequency and decreasing wavelength: radio, microwave, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-ray, gamma. All travel at the same speed in vacuum (3×10⁸ m/s).

Uses and hazards: radio – broadcasting; microwave – cooking, communications; infrared – heating, remote controls; visible – optical fibres; UV – sterilisation, tanning, but causes skin cancer; X-ray – medical imaging; gamma – cancer treatment, sterilisation, and is highly ionising.

4. Electricity | 电学

Electric current is the rate of flow of charge, measured in amperes (A). In a metal, current is a flow of electrons. Potential difference (voltage) is the energy transferred per unit charge, measured in volts (V).

电流是电荷的流动速度,单位安培 (A)。在金属中,电流是电子的流动。电位差(电压)是每单位电荷转移的能量,单位伏特 (V)。

Resistance R = V / I, measured in ohms (Ω). Ohm’s law holds for a fixed resistor at constant temperature: V = I × R. An IV graph for a fixed resistor is a straight line through the origin.

Series circuits: same current through all components, total potential difference is shared, total resistance R_total = R₁ + R₂. Filament lamp IV graph is a curve showing resistance increases as temperature rises. Diode only allows current in one direction (forward biased) and has very high resistance in reverse.

In UK mains electricity: alternating current (AC) at 50 Hz, 230 V. Live wire (brown) carries the alternating voltage, neutral (blue) completes the circuit, earth (green/yellow) is a safety wire. Fuses and circuit breakers prevent overheating due to excessive current.

5. Magnetism and Electromagnetism | 磁学与电磁学

A magnet has a north and south pole; like poles repel, unlike poles attract. Magnetic field lines go from north to south and show the direction a north pole would move.

磁铁有北极和南极;同极相斥,异极相吸。磁感线从北极指向南极,表示北极受力的方向。

An electromagnet is made by passing current through a coil of wire (solenoid). The magnetic field can be increased by: increasing the current, increasing the number of turns, using a soft iron core.

电磁铁由通电线圈(螺线管)制成。增强磁场的方法:增大电流、增加线圈匝数、插入软铁芯。

Motor effect: a current-carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field experiences a force. The direction is given by Fleming’s left-hand rule. Force magnitude increases with stronger magnet, larger current, more length in the field.

电动机效应:放置在磁场中的载流导线会受到力。方向由弗莱明左手定则判断。力的大小随磁场增强、电流增大、有效导线长度增加而增大。

Electromagnetic induction: when a conductor cuts through magnetic field lines, a potential difference is induced. If the circuit is complete, a current flows. This is the principle of a generator (dynamo). Factors affecting induced pd: speed of movement, magnetic strength, number of coil turns.

电磁感应:导线切割磁感线时,会产生感生电势差。如果电路闭合,就有电流。这是发电机(直流发电机)的原理。影响感生电势差的因素:运动速度、磁场强度、线圈匝数。

A transformer changes the size of an alternating voltage. For an ideal transformer: Vₚ / Vₛ = Nₚ / Nₛ, where Vₚ and Vₛ are primary and secondary voltages, Nₚ and Nₛ are number of turns. Step-up increases voltage; step-down decreases voltage. Used in the National Grid to transmit at high voltage to reduce energy losses.

变压器改变交流电压的大小。理想变压器:Vₚ / Vₛ = Nₚ / Nₛ,其中Vₚ和Vₛ为初级和次级电压,Nₚ和Nₛ为匝数。升压变压器提高电压,降压变压器降低电压。国家电网用高压输电减少能量损耗。


6. Particle Model of Matter | 物质粒子模型

All matter is made of tiny particles. Solids: fixed shape, particles closely packed in regular arrangement, vibrate in fixed positions. Liquids: fixed volume, take shape of container, particles close together but can move past each other. Gases: no fixed shape or volume, particles far apart and move randomly.
