The average speed of an object is found by dividing the total distance travelled by the time taken. The unit of speed is metres per second (m/s).

Moving objects possess momentum, a vector quantity defined as the product of mass and velocity. Momentum is conserved in all collisions and explosions, provided no external force acts.
