For Year 8 Edexcel Spanish students, building a strong foundation means avoiding common errors that can become habits. From masculine and feminine nouns to the tricky ser/estar distinction, these mistakes are normal but need attention. This guide highlights the most frequent pitfalls and provides clear correction strategies to help you write and speak more accurately.

对于学习 Edexcel 西班牙语的 Year 8 学生来说,打下扎实的基础意味着避免那些可能成为习惯的常见错误。从阳性和阴性名词到棘手的 ser/estar 区分,这些错误很正常但需要留意。本指南重点指出最常见的误区,并提供清晰的纠正策略,帮助你更准确地写作和表达。

1. Noun Gender Confusion | 名词性别混淆

A very common mistake is using the wrong article or adjective ending for the gender of a noun. For example, saying ‘la libro’ instead of ‘el libro’. Students often guess the gender based on the word’s ending, but there are exceptions.

一个非常常见的错误是根据名词的性别使用错误的冠词或形容词词尾。例如,说 ‘la libro’ 而不是 ‘el libro’。学生经常根据单词的结尾来猜测性别,但有很多例外。

To fix this, always learn the noun together with its article: el libro, la mesa. Remember that most nouns ending in -o are masculine, and most ending in -a are feminine. However, watch out for exceptions like ‘el día’ (masculine) and ‘la mano’ (feminine).

纠正方法是,始终将名词和它的冠词一起记忆:el libro, la mesa。记住大多数以 -o 结尾的名词是阳性,大多数以 -a 结尾的是阴性。但要留意例外,如 ‘el día’(阳性)和 ‘la mano’(阴性)。

Also, nouns ending in -ción, -sión, -dad are almost always feminine: la canción, la televisión, la ciudad. Pay attention to words with other tricky endings: ‘el problema’ (masculine, from Greek), ‘la foto’ (feminine, short for fotografía).

此外,以 -ción、-sión、-dad 结尾的名词几乎总是阴性:la canción, la televisión, la ciudad。注意其他棘手结尾的词:’el problema’(阳性,源自希腊语),’la foto’(阴性,fotografía 的缩写)。

2. Adjective Agreement Errors | 形容词一致性问题

Adjectives must match the gender and number of the noun they describe. A typical error is ‘los chicos altas’ instead of ‘los chicos altos’.

形容词必须与它所描述的名词在性和数上保持一致。一个典型错误是 ‘los chicos altas’ 而不是 ‘los chicos altos’。

Check that the adjective ending changes: -o for masculine singular, -a for feminine singular, -os for masculine plural, -as for feminine plural. For adjectives ending in -e or a consonant, they usually only change for number: inteligente, inteligentes; joven, jóvenes.

检查形容词词尾的变化:阳性单数用 -o,阴性单数用 -a,阳性复数用 -os,阴性复数用 -as。对于以 -e 或辅音结尾的形容词,通常只改变数:inteligente, inteligentes;joven, jóvenes。

Don’t forget that some adjectives like ‘bueno’ and ‘malo’ drop the -o before a masculine singular noun: un buen libro, un mal día. Other examples include ‘grande’ becoming ‘gran’ before a singular noun: un gran problema.

不要忘记有些形容词如 ‘bueno’ 和 ‘malo’ 在阳性单数名词前会去掉 -o:un buen libro, un mal día。其他例子包括 ‘grande’ 在单数名词前变成 ‘gran’:un gran problema。

3. Ser vs Estar Confusion | Ser 与 Estar 混淆

Both mean ‘to be’, but they are not interchangeable. A classic mistake: ‘Estoy aburrido’ (I am bored) vs ‘Soy aburrido’ (I am boring).

两者都表示“是、在”,但不能互换。一个经典错误:’Estoy aburrido’(我感到无聊)vs ‘Soy aburrido’(我是个无聊的人)。

Use ser for permanent characteristics, identity, origin, time, and occupation. Use estar for temporary states, locations, and conditions. Memorise: ser + adjectives describing personality; estar + adjectives describing mood or physical condition.

用 ser 表示永久特征、身份、来源、时间和职业。用 estar 表示暂时状态、位置和状况。记住:ser + 描述个性的形容词;estar + 描述情绪或身体状况的形容词。

For example, ‘Soy feliz’ (I am a happy person), ‘Estoy feliz’ (I am feeling happy right now). Also, always use estar for location: Madrid está en España. Never use ser for location.

例如,’Soy feliz’(我是个快乐的人),’Estoy feliz’(我现在感到高兴)。另外,始终用 estar 表示位置:Madrid está en España。绝不要用 ser 表示位置。

4. Regular Verb Conjugation Slips | 规则动词变位失误

Students often forget the correct endings for -ar, -er, -ir verbs. Common error: ‘yo hablar’ for ‘I speak’ instead of ‘yo hablo’.

学生经常忘记 -ar、-er、-ir 动词的正确词尾。常见错误:用 ‘yo hablar’ 表示“我说”而不是 ‘yo hablo’。

Focus on the present tense endings: -ar: -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an; -er: -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en; -ir: -o, -es, -e, -imos, -ís, -en. Notice that -er and -ir share the yo form -o, but differ in nosotros and vosotros.

集中练习现在时词尾:-ar: -o, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an;-er: -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en;-ir: -o, -es, -e, -imos, -ís, -en。注意 -er 和 -ir 的 yo 形式相同都是 -o,但在 nosotros 和 vosotros 形式上不同。

Also remember that some very common verbs are irregular in the first person: tengo (tener), vengo (venir), digo (decir), hago (hacer), salgo (salir), conozco (conocer). Practise these high-frequency forms daily.

还要记住一些非常常用的动词在第一人称是不规则的:tengo (tener), vengo (venir), digo (decir), hago (hacer), salgo (salir), conozco (conocer)。每天练习这些高频形式。

5. Misusing Gustar | 误用 Gustar

Gustar means ‘to be pleasing’ and uses a different structure. Mistake: ‘Yo gusto el chocolate’ instead of ‘Me gusta el chocolate’.

Gustar 意思是“令人喜欢”,使用不同的结构。错误:’Yo gusto el chocolate’ 而不是 ‘Me gusta el chocolate’。

The correct pattern is indirect object pronoun (me, te, le, nos, os, les) + gusta/gustan + thing liked. Use gusta if the thing is singular or an infinitive; use gustan if it is plural. A mí me gusta bailar. Me gustan las manzanas.

正确模式是间接宾语代词 (me, te, le, nos, os, les) + gusta/gustan + 被喜欢的事物。如果事物是单数或不定式动词,用 gusta;如果是复数,用 gustan。A mí me gusta bailar. Me gustan las manzanas.

Watch out: the phrase ‘a mí’ is optional for emphasis, but must match the pronoun. Other verbs that work the same way include encantar, interesar, fastidiar. Practice with: Me encanta la música, Nos interesa el arte.

注意:’a mí’ 这个短语是可选的,仅用于强调,且必须与代词一致。其他同样结构的动词有 encantar, interesar, fastidiar。练习:Me encanta la música, Nos interesa el arte。

6. Article Contractions: al and del | 冠词缩合:al 与 del

In Spanish, ‘a el’ contracts to ‘al’ and ‘de el’ contracts to ‘del’. Errors like ‘a el parque’ should be ‘al parque’. This rule is mandatory; never write ‘a el’ or ‘de el’ except when ‘el’ is part of a proper noun like El Salvador (a El Salvador).

在西班牙语中,’a el’ 缩合成 ‘al’,’de el’ 缩合成 ‘del’。像 ‘a el parque’ 这样的错误应为 ‘al parque’。这条规则是强制性的;绝不要写 ‘a el’ 或 ‘de el’,除非 ‘el’ 是专有名词的一部分,如 El Salvador(a El Salvador)。

Remember that the contraction only happens with the masculine singular article. With feminine or other articles there is no change: a la, de la, a los, de los. Write ‘Voy al cine’ and ‘Salgo del colegio’.

记住缩合只发生在阳性单数冠词。与其他冠词连用时不变:a la, de la, a los, de los。请写 ‘Voy al cine’ 和 ‘Salgo del colegio’。

7. Question Word Order | 疑问句词序

In questions, the verb usually comes before the subject. Common error: ‘¿Cuántos años tú tienes?’ Correct: ‘¿Cuántos años tienes?’ (How old are you?)
