The water was divided into six identical beakers, each with 500 mL of pond water. Different volumes of nitrate fertiliser solution were added to each beaker to achieve final nitrate concentrations of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mg/L. All beakers were placed in a growth cabinet at 20°C with constant light intensity for 7 days. After 7 days, the students measured the chlorophyll a concentration (a proxy for algal density) using a colorimeter.
