1. Noun Gender & Definite Articles | 名词性与定冠词

Every German noun has a grammatical gender: masculine (der), feminine (die), neuter (das), with plural always ‘die’ in the nominative. The definite article changes across the four cases, producing a logical ‘formula’ for case endings. Memorising the article table is the first building block for all further case-dependent rules.

每个德语名词都有语法性别:阳性(der)、阴性(die)、中性(das),复数第一格永远都是 “die”。定冠词在四个格中变化,构成一套有规律的格词尾“公式”。记住冠词变化表是所有后续与格相关规则的基础。

Case / Kasus Masculine (der) Feminine (die) Neuter (das) Plural (die)
Nominative der die das die
Accusative den die das die
Dative dem der dem den (+n on noun)
Genitive des (+s/es) der des (+s/es) der

For example: Der Mann sieht den Hund. (The man sees the dog.) Ich gebe dem Kind das Buch. (I give the child the book.) Die Farbe des Hauses ist schön. (The colour of the house is beautiful.)

例如:Der Mann sieht den Hund. (男人看见狗。) Ich gebe dem Kind das Buch. (我把书给孩子。) Die Farbe des Hauses ist schön. (房子的颜色很美。)

2. Indefinite & Negative Articles | 不定冠词与否定冠词

The indefinite article ‘ein’ (a/an) and the negative article ‘kein’ (no/not a) follow the same case endings as the definite article in the nominative, but they have no ending in the nominative masculine and neuter. This creates an easy-to-remember pattern: in the accusative, only masculine changes (einen/keinen). In the dative, they mimic the definite article endings with ‘einem, einer, einem’.

Note: ‘Kein’ simply negates a noun that would have an indefinite article. Ich habe kein Auto. (I have no car.) Er hat eine Schwester, aber keinen Bruder. (He has a sister but no brother.)

注意:“Kein” 用来否定原本带不定冠词的名词。Ich habe kein Auto. (我没有车。) Er hat eine Schwester, aber keinen Bruder. (他有姐姐,没有哥哥。)

3. Adjective Endings Formula | 形容词词尾公式

Adjective endings depend on two factors: whether there is a preceding determiner (article) and what information that determiner carries. We can think of three ‘endings tables’ as formulas: weak after definite article, strong when no article, and mixed after indefinite article. The key principle: the determiner and adjective together must signal the case. If the article shows the case clearly, the adjective takes a weak -e or -en. If there is no article, the adjective takes the strong definite-article-like endings.

形容词词尾取决于两个因素:前面是否有限定词(冠词)以及该限定词携带了什么格信息。我们可以把三种变化表看作公式:弱变化用在定冠词后、强变化用在无冠词时、混合变化用在不定冠词后。核心原则是:限定词和形容词必须共同标示出格。如果冠词已明确显示格,形容词就用弱词尾 -e 或 -en;如果没有冠词,形容词则采用类似定冠词的强变化词尾。

  • Weak (definite article): After der/die/das/die, adjective ends in -e (nom.sg.), -en (acc.sg. masc, all dative, all genitive, plural). Except nom./acc. feminine/neuter/plural: -e (or -en if plural dative).
  • 中文:弱变化(定冠词后): 在 der/die/das/die 后,形容词词尾第一格单数 -e,第四格阳性 -en,所有第三格 -en,所有第二格 -en,复数大部分 -en。但第一格/第四格阴性和中性仍是 -e。
  • Strong (no article): Adjective takes the endings of the definite article except in genitive masculine/neuter where it ends in -en. (e.g., guter Wein, gutes Bier, gute Milch, kalten Wassers – genitive)
  • 中文:强变化(无冠词): 形容词直接采用定冠词的词尾,仅阳性和中性的第二格变成 -en (如 kalten Wassers)。
  • Mixed (ein/kein + adjective): Where ein/kein has no ending (nom.masc., nom./acc.neut.), the adjective takes the strong ending; elsewhere weak -en. Gut example: ein guter Mann (nom.), einen guten Mann (acc.), einem guten Mann (dat.).
  • 中文:混合变化(不定冠词后): 当 ein/kein 无词尾时(阳一中、中一/四),形容词用强变化词尾;其余情况形容词用弱变化 -en。例如:ein guter Mann (第一格),einen guten Mann (第四格),einem guten Mann (第三格)。

Memorise this ‘formula’: article signal strong → adjective weak; no article → adjective strong; ein with missing ending → adjective strong rescue.

记住这条“公式”:冠词信号强 → 形容词弱;无冠词 → 形容词强;ein 缺失词尾 → 形容词强变化补救。

4. Personal Pronouns & Reflexive Pronouns | 人称代词与反身代词

Personal pronouns replace nouns and follow a fixed case pattern. The accusative forms are mich, dich, ihn, sie, es, uns, euch, sie, Sie; the dative forms are mir, dir, ihm, ihr, ihm, uns, euch, ihnen, Ihnen. Reflexive pronouns refer back to the subject and use the same set, but in the accusative and dative they are identical to the personal pronouns for the subject, except in the 3rd person and formal ‘Sie’ where reflexive is ‘sich’ for both accusative and dative. A quick rule: if the subject and object are the same person, use mich/mir, dich/dir, etc., and for er/sie/es/man/Sie use ‘sich’.

人称代词替代名词,具有固定的格变化。第四格:mich, dich, ihn, sie, es, uns, euch, sie, Sie;第三格:mir, dir, ihm, ihr, ihm, uns, euch, ihnen, Ihnen。反身代词指回主语,与对应人称代词相同,但在第三人称以及尊称 “Sie” 时,无论第四格还是第三格都用 “sich”。速记规则:主语和宾语是同一人时,用 mich/mir, dich/dir 等,而 er/sie/es/man/Sie 用 sich。

Person Nominative Accusative (direct / reflexive) Dative (indirect / reflexive)
1st sg. ich mich mir
2nd sg. (inf.) du dich dir
3rd sg. m. er ihn / sich ihm / sich
3rd sg. f. sie sie / sich ihr / sich
3rd sg. n. es es / sich ihm / sich
1st pl. wir uns uns
2nd pl. ihr euch euch
3rd pl. / formal sie / Sie sie / sich / Sie ihnen / sich / Ihnen

Example: Ich wasche mich. (I wash myself.) Ich wasche mir die Hände. (I wash my hands – dative reflexive for body part.) Er kämmt sich. (He combs himself.)

例:Ich wasche mich. (我洗自己。) Ich wasche mir die Hände. (我洗手——第三格反身用于身体部位。) Er kämmt sich. (他梳头。)

5. Present Tense Verb Conjugation | 现在时动词变位

Regular weak verbs form the present tense by removing the -en infinitive ending and adding personal endings: -e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en. For stem-changing strong verbs (e.g., lesen → du liest), only the 2nd and 3rd person singular are affected. Separable verbs split: prefix goes to the end of the clause (anrufen → ich rufe an).

规则弱变化动词的现在时变位,去掉词尾 -en,加上人称词尾:-e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en。对于词干要变音的强变化动词(如 lesen → du liest),只有第二人称和第三人称单数变音。可分动词则分开,前缀放到主句句尾 (anrufen → ich rufe an)。

Person machen (to do) sprechen (to speak) lesen (to read) anfangen (to start)
ich mache spreche lese fange an
du machst sprichst liest fängst an
er/sie/es macht spricht liest fängt an
wir machen sprechen lesen fangen an
ihr macht sprecht lest fangt an
sie/Sie machen sprechen lesen fangen an

Note the stem change pattern: sprechen (e → i), lesen (e → ie), fahren (a → ä), laufen (au → äu) – occurring only in du/er forms. Treat these as essential “irregularity formulas” to learn by heart.

注意词干变音类型:sprechen (e → i), lesen (e → ie), fahren (a → ä), laufen (au → äu)——仅发生在 du/er 人称。这些都是必背的“不规律公式”。

6. Perfect Tense with haben/sein | 完成时与 haben/sein

The conversational past is formed with the auxiliary verb haben or sein in the present tense, followed by the past participle (Partizip II) placed at the end of the clause. The formula: Subject + conjugated haben/sein + (other elements) + past participle. Use sein for verbs of movement from A to B or change of state (gehen, fahren, aufstehen, werden, sterben). Most other verbs take haben. The past participle of regular verbs: ge + stem + t (machen → gemacht). For irregular verbs: ge + (often changed stem) + en (gehen → gegangen, schreiben → geschrieben). Separable verbs insert ‘ge’ between prefix and stem: anrufen → angerufen. Inseparable (be-, er-, ver-, zer-, ent-, miss-, emp-) and -ieren verbs have no ge-: verkaufen → verkauft, studieren → studiert.

非可分前缀 (be-, er-, ver-, zer-, ent-, miss-, emp-) 以及以 -ieren 结尾的动词不加 ge:verkaufen → verkauft, studieren → studiert。

Example: Ich habe gestern einen Film gesehen. (I saw a film yesterday.) Er ist früh aufgestanden. (He got up early.) Sie hat das Buch verkauft. (She sold the book.)

例:Ich habe gestern einen Film gesehen. (我昨天看了一部电影。) Er ist früh aufgestanden. (他起得很早。) Sie hat das Buch verkauft. (她卖了那本书。)

7. Modal Verbs & Verb-Kick Structure | 情态动词与框形结构

Modal verbs (dürfen, können, mögen, müssen, sollen, wollen) modify a main verb and force it to the end of the clause in the infinitive. The conjugated modal occupies the second position (V2), while the infinitive goes to the final spot – creating the characteristic ‘verb bracket’. The modals have irregular present tense forms: e.g., ich kann, du kannst, er kann; ich muss, du musst, er muss. The formula: Subj. + modal (V2) + … + infinitive (end).

情态动词 (dürfen, können, mögen, müssen, sollen, wollen) 用来修饰实义动词,并将实义动词以原形推到句尾。情态动词变位放在第二位 (V2),原形动词在句末,形成典型的“动词框形结构”。情态动词现在时变位不规则,如 ich kann, du kannst, er kann;ich muss, du musst, er muss。公式:主语 + 情态动词 (V2) + … + 原形动词 (句末)。
