📚 Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them for CIE A-Level Spanish | CIE A-Level西班牙语常见误区与纠正方法

At Year 13, CIE A-Level Spanish students are expected to produce accurate, fluent, and nuanced language in both written and spoken tasks. However, even advanced learners repeatedly fall into a set of predictable traps—errors in grammar, word choice, and syntax that prevent them from reaching the highest bands. This article identifies the most frequent mistakes and provides clear corrections, helping you refine your Spanish for the final examinations.

到了13年级,CIE A-Level西班牙语的学生需要能够写出准确、流利且富有层次的语言。但即便是高水平的学习者,也常会反复掉进一些可预见的陷阱——语法、词汇选择和句法上的错误,这些错误会阻碍他们达到最高评分档。本文总结了最常见的误区,并提供了清晰的纠正方法,帮助你在最后的考试中打磨出更精准的西班牙语。

1. Ser and Estar | Ser与Estar的混淆

One of the most fundamental distinctions in Spanish is between ser and estar, both meaning ‘to be’. However, errors persist because English uses a single verb. A classic mistake is using ser for temporary conditions, e.g. *’Soy cansado’ instead of ‘Estoy cansado’. Another is using estar for inherent characteristics, e.g. *’Está inteligente’ instead of ‘Es inteligente’. Also note that changes of meaning can occur with adjectives: ser aburrido (to be boring) versus estar aburrido (to be bored); ser listo (to be clever) versus estar listo (to be ready).

西班牙语中最基本的区分之一就是serestar,两者都表示’是’,但由于英语只有一个词,混淆仍屡见不鲜。一个典型的错误是将临时状态用ser表达,例如 *’Soy cansado’ 应为 ‘Estoy cansado’。另一个是将固有特征用estar,例如 *’Está inteligente’ 应为 ‘Es inteligente’。还要注意形容词含义的变化:ser aburrido(令人厌烦)对比 estar aburrido(感到无聊);ser listo(聪明)对比 estar listo(准备好)。

To fix this, use the DOCTOR (Description, Occupation, Characteristic, Time, Origin, Relationship) and PLACE (Position, Location, Action, Condition, Emotion) acronyms. When talking about events, use ser for the place: ‘La reunión es en la biblioteca’. But for the location of a person or object, use estar: ‘Juan está en la biblioteca’.

要纠正这一问题,可以使用DOCTOR(描述、职业、特征、时间、来源、关系)和PLACE(位置、地点、正在进行的动作、状态、情绪)这两个助记口诀。当谈论事件地点时用ser:’La reunión es en la biblioteca’(会议在图书馆)。但表示人或物的位置时用estar:’Juan está en la biblioteca’。

2. Por and Para | Por和Para的误用

Both por and para can translate as ‘for’, but their functions are distinct. A frequent error is using para to express cause, e.g. *’Lo hice para mi madre’ (when meaning ‘because of my mother’) instead of ‘Lo hice por mi madre’. Another is using por for deadlines: *’La tarea es por el viernes’ instead of ‘La tarea es para el viernes’.

porpara都可以译作’for’,但功能截然不同。常见错误是用para表达原因,如 *’Lo hice para mi madre’(本意是’因为我母亲’)应为 ‘Lo hice por mi madre’。另一错误是将por用于截止日期:*’La tarea es por el viernes’ 应为 ‘La tarea es para el viernes’。

Remember: para signals purpose, destination, recipient, opinion, and deadlines. por signals reason, duration, exchange, means, and motion through a place. Set expressions such as ‘gracias por’, ‘por favor’, and ‘por supuesto’ must be memorised. A useful check: if you can insert ‘in order to’, it is likely para; if you can insert ‘because of’, it is likely por.

请记住:para表示目的、目的地、接收者、个人观点和截止日期。por表示原因、持续时间、交换、方式和穿越某地。像’gracias por’、’por favor’和’por supuesto’这些固定搭配必须记牢。一个实用的判断法是:如果能插入’in order to’(为了),多半用para;如果能插入’because of’(因为),多半用por

3. Preterite vs Imperfect | 简单过去时与过去未完成时的区分

Choosing between the preterite (pretérito indefinido) and the imperfect (pretérito imperfecto) is one of the biggest hurdles. Students often overuse the imperfect for completed actions: *’Ayer caminaba al parque’ instead of ‘Ayer caminé al parque’ when it was a single, completed walk. Conversely, using the preterite for habitual actions in the past: *’Cuando era niño, jugué al fútbol todos los días’ instead of ‘jugaba’.

在简单过去时和过去未完成时之间做选择是最大的难关之一。学生常将已完成的动作用过去未完成时表达,如 *’Ayer caminaba al parque’,而一次性完成的走路应为 ‘Ayer caminé al parque’。反过来,将过去的习惯动作用简单过去时:*’Cuando era niño, jugué al fútbol todos los días’ 应为 ‘jugaba’。

The preterite is used for actions seen as completed, events that advance the plot, and specific time frames. The imperfect provides background information, describes ongoing or habitual actions, and expresses time, age, and weather in the past. A helpful rule: the imperfect sets the scene (‘Eran las ocho, llovía…’), the preterite tells what happened (‘…cuando sonó el teléfono’).

简单过去时用于被视为完成的动作、推动情节的事件和具体时间点。过去未完成时用于描述背景、正在进行或习惯性的动作,以及过去的时刻、年龄和天气。一条有用的规则是:过去未完成时搭建场景(’Eran las ocho, llovía…’),简单过去时讲述发生了什么事(’…cuando sonó el teléfono’)。

4. Subjunctive Triggers | 虚拟语气的触发条件

The subjunctive mood remains a source of anxiety. Errors typically involve using the indicative after expressions that demand the subjunctive, e.g. *’Espero que vienes’ instead of ‘Espero que vengas’. Another common slip is forgetting the subjunctive in adverbial clauses that refer to future or hypothetical actions: *’Cuando llegas, te llamaré’ should be ‘Cuando llegues, te llamaré’.

虚拟语气至今仍是焦虑的源头。常见错误是在需要虚拟式的短语后用陈述式,例如 *’Espero que vienes’ 应为 ‘Espero que vengas’。另一个常见失误是当状语从句指向未来或假设动作时忘记用虚拟式:*’Cuando llegas, te llamaré’ 应为 ‘Cuando llegues, te llamaré’。

Use the acronym WEIRDO: Wishes, Emotions, Impersonal expressions, Recommendations, Doubt/denial, and Ojalá. After these triggers in the main clause, the subordinate clause requires the subjunctive. Also learn conjunctions that always take the subjunctive, such as para que, antes de que, a menos que, and sin que. Remember that si clauses with likely conditions take the indicative: ‘Si tengo tiempo, iré’.

使用首字母缩略词WEIRDO:愿望(Wishes)、情感(Emotions)、无人称表达(Impersonal expressions)、建议(Recommendations)、怀疑/否认(Doubt/denial)以及Ojalá。当主句中出现这些触发条件时,从句必须用虚拟式。同时要记住那些后面总是跟虚拟式的连词,如para queantes de quea menos quesin que。注意,表示可能条件的si从句用陈述式:’Si tengo tiempo, iré’。

5. Reflexive Verbs and Pronoun Placement | 自复动词与代词的位置

Misusing reflexive verbs and their pronouns leads to both grammatical and meaning errors. Students might say *’Me lavo los manos’ (wrong gender on ‘manos’) or forget the reflexive with verbs like acordarse, saying *’No acuerdo de su nombre’ instead of ‘No me acuerdo de su nombre’. Pronoun placement with infinitives, gerunds, and imperatives is also a common problem.

误用自复动词及其代词会导致语法和意义上的双重错误。学生可能会说 *’Me lavo los manos’(’manos’应为阴性),或者在像acordarse这样的动词上忘记反身代词,说成 *’No acuerdo de su nombre’ 而非 ‘No me acuerdo de su nombre’。与不定式、副动词和命令式相关的代词位置也是普遍难题。

The rule: with conjugated verbs, pronouns go before the verb (‘Me lavo’). With infinitives and gerunds, they can be attached to the end (‘Voy a lavarme’, ‘Estoy lavándome’) or placed before the auxiliary. With affirmative commands, they attach to the end (‘Lávate’), but with negative commands they go before (‘No te laves’). Be aware of verbs that change meaning when reflexive: ir (to go) vs irse (to leave).

规则如下:与变位动词连用时,代词置于动词前(’Me lavo’)。与不定式和副动词连用时,代词可以后置并连写(’Voy a lavarme’, ‘Estoy lavándome’),也可放于助动词前。肯定命令式中代词后置(’Lávate’),否定命令式中前置(’No te laves’)。要注意有些动词变成自复形式时意义改变,如ir(去)对比irse(离开)。

6. Indirect and Direct Object Pronouns: Order and Redundancy | 间接和直接宾语代词:顺序与重复

When using both an indirect and a direct object pronoun, learners often reverse the order or forget that le/les becomes se before lo/la/los/las. Errors like *’Le lo di’ instead of ‘Se lo di’ are very common. Additionally, many students omit the redundant indirect object pronoun when the indirect object is named: *’Di el libro a María’ should ideally be ‘Le di el libro a María’.

当同时使用间接宾语代词和直接宾语代词时,学习者时常颠倒顺序,或者忘记le/leslo/la/los/las前须变为se。像 *’Le lo di’ 应为 ‘Se lo di’ 这样的错误极其常见。此外,当间接宾语明确出现时,很多学生会漏掉与之共现的代词:*’Di el libro a María’ 最好表达为 ‘Le di el libro a María’。

The correct order is always indirect before direct: ‘Te lo explico’. If both start with ‘l’, change the indirect to ‘se’: ‘Se lo explico a ellos’. The redundant ‘le’ is often required even when the noun is present, especially in spoken Spanish. Also watch out for the use of ‘se’ in passive and impersonal constructions, which is a different topic but easily confused.

正确的顺序永远是间接在前,直接在后:’Te lo explico’。如果两者都以’l’开头,把间接宾语代词变为’se’:’Se lo explico a ellos’。即使间接宾语名词已经出现,重复的’le’往往也必须使用,尤其在口语中。另外需要注意的是被动句和无人称句中’se’的用法,这虽属另一话题但极易混淆。

7. The Personal ‘a’ | 指人宾语前的’a’

The personal a is used before direct objects that are people or personalised entities. A typical mistake is to insert it after verbs like tener or haber: *’Tengo a dos hermanos’ should be ‘Tengo dos hermanos’, because tener does not take the personal a when referring to indefinite people. On the other hand, forgetting it with specific people is also common: *’Visité mi abuela’ must be ‘Visité a mi abuela’.

指人宾语前常用个人’a’,当直接宾语是人或拟人化的事物时使用。一个典型错误是把它加在tenerhaber这类动词后:*’Tengo a dos hermanos’ 应为 ‘Tengo dos hermanos’,因为tener在指不确定的人时不带个人’a’。另一方面,在特指人物前忘加了’a’也很常见:*’Visité mi abuela’ 必须说 ‘Visité a mi abuela’。

The personal a is not used with the verb tener when it simply expresses possession, but it appears when there is a personal, direct involvement, as in ‘Tengo a mi madre en el hospital’. It is also not used after the impersonal hay. Always check whether the direct object is a specific, known person or a personalised animal.

个人’a’在tener单纯表示拥有时不使用,但当涉及到个人直接关系时,如’Tengo a mi madre en el hospital’则要使用。在无人称的hay之后也不用。务必检查直接宾语是否是一个特定的、已知的人或拟人化的动物。

8. The Neutral ‘lo’ and Relative Pronouns | 中性’lo’与关系代词

The neutral article lo is often misused with adjectives. Students might write *’Lo bueno cosa’ instead of ‘Lo bueno’ or ‘La cosa buena’. Lo + adjective creates an abstract noun: ‘lo importante’ (the important thing). Also, relative pronouns que, el que, el cual, and cuyo cause confusion, particularly cuyo, which agrees in gender and number with the possessed noun, not the possessor: ‘El chico cuyo libro’ (the boy whose book).

中性冠词lo常与形容词搭配错误。学生可能写出 *’Lo bueno cosa’,正确的说法是 ‘Lo bueno’ 或 ‘La cosa buena’。lo + 形容词构成抽象名词:’lo importante’(重要的是)。此外,关系代词queel queel cualcuyo也令人困惑,尤其是cuyo,它的性数应与所拥有的名词保持一致,而非所有者:’El chico cuyo libro’(那个男孩的书)。

For relative pronouns, use que for defining clauses and el que/el cual after prepositions or for clarification. Avoid literal translations from English such as *’La persona quien vi’ — it should be ‘La persona que vi’. Remember that cuyo/a/os/as must match the noun it precedes: ‘La mujer cuyas hijas’ (the woman whose daughters).

在使用关系代词时,用que引导限定性从句,在介词后或需进一步明确时用el que/el cual。避免从英语生硬直译,如 *’La persona quien vi’ 应为 ‘La persona que vi’。切记cuyo/a/os/as要与所修饰的名词保持性数一致:’La mujer cuyas hijas’(那些女儿的母亲)。

9. Accents and Spelling | 重音符号与拼写错误

Accent marks are not optional in Spanish, yet Year 13 scripts still feature frequent omissions or misplacements. Missing accents on interrogative words (qué, cuándo, dónde, cómo) or on past-tense forms (hablé, habló, comí, comió) can alter meaning entirely. Even native-like writing can be downgraded by errors such as confusing (you) and tu (your), or él (he) and el (the).

西班牙语里重音符号绝非可有可无,然而13年级的答卷中仍常见遗漏或误加。疑问词(qué, cuándo, dónde, cómo)或过去时形式(hablé, habló, comí, comió)上漏掉重音会完全改变意思。即便是接近母语的表达,也可能因混淆(你)和tu(你的)、或él(他)和el(定冠词)而降分。

Review accent rules systematically: words ending in a vowel, n or s are stressed on the second-to-last syllable unless an accent indicates otherwise; words ending in other consonants are stressed on the last syllable unless an accent marks the contrary. All interrogative and exclamatory words carry a written accent. Also distinguish demonstrative pronouns vs adjectives: ‘éste’ vs ‘este’ (though current RAE guidelines allow no accent on demonstrative pronouns, many exam syllabi still expect traditional usage, so check your board).

系统地复习重音规则:以元音、ns结尾的单词,重音落在倒数第二音节,除非重音符号另行指定;以其他辅音结尾的单词,重音落在最后一音节,除非有重音符号。所有疑问词和感叹词都带重音符号。还要区分指示代词与指示形容词:’éste’ 对比 ‘este’(虽然现行RAE规范允许指示代词不带重音,但许多考试大纲仍要求传统写法,请核查你的考试局要求)。

10. False Friends and Anglicisms | 假朋友和英式西语

False friends are words that look similar in English and Spanish but have different meanings, leading to embarrassing mistakes. Classic examples: actualmente means ‘currently’, not ‘actually’; embarazada means ‘pregnant’, not ’embarrassed’; sensible means ‘sensitive’, not ‘sensible’. Anglicisms like *’el problema es que…’ mixed with English structures, or overusing realizar (to carry out) for English ‘realise’, also lower precision.

假朋友是指英语和西班牙语中形态相似但含义不同的词,会导致令人尴尬的错误。经典例子:actualmente意为’当前’,而非’实际上’;embarazada意为’怀孕的’,而非’尴尬的’;sensible意为’敏感的’,而非’明智的’。英式西语如将英语结构直译,或滥用realizar(执行)来表达’realise’(意识到),也会降低语言的准确性。

Compile a list of frequent false friends and test yourself regularly. Think in Spanish rather than translating from English. For instance, use darse cuenta for ‘to realise’, not realizar. Similarly, asistir means ‘to attend’, not ‘to assist’. By actively eliminating these direct translations, your writing becomes more authentic and idiomatic.

整理一份常见假朋友的列表,经常自测。尝试用西语思维,而非从英语翻译。例如,用darse cuenta表示’realise’,而非realizar。类似地,asistir意为’参加’,而非’帮助’。通过主动消除这些直译,你的表达会变得更地道、更符合习惯。

11. Gender and Number Agreement | 性数一致

Even at advanced level, agreement mistakes sneak in. A typical problem is forgetting to make adjectives agree with nouns, especially when they are separated: *’Las chicas están cansado’ should be ‘Las chicas están cansadas’. Another is mismatching articles and nouns of ambiguous gender, such as el problema (masculine) or la mano (feminine).

即便是高级水平,性数一致的错误也时有发生。一个典型问题是忘记让形容词与名词保持性数一致,尤其是当它们被隔开时:*’Las chicas están cansado’ 应为 ‘Las chicas están cansadas’。另一个问题是阴性阳性易混名词的冠词搭配错误,比如el problema(阳性)或la mano(阴性)。

Apply the principle that every adjective, article, and pronoun must agree in gender and number with the noun it refers to. Pay extra attention to collective nouns (la gente is singular) and invariable adjectives (like marrón, which only changes in number: zapatos marrones). Practise by highlighting all noun phrases in a paragraph and checking the endings.

牢记这一原则:每个形容词、冠词和代词都必须在性和数上与其指代的名词保持一致。特别注意集合名词(la gente为单数)和不变形容词(如marrón只在数上变化:zapatos marrones)。练习时可以圈出一段话中的所有名词短语并检查词尾。

12. Overuse of the Passive and ‘Se’ Constructions | 被动语态与’se’句式的过度使用

English frequently employs the passive voice, but Spanish prefers active structures or the reflexive passive. Students often produce unnatural sentences like *’El libro fue escrito por Cervantes’ in contexts where ‘Cervantes escribió el libro’ or ‘Se escribió el libro’ is more natural. Overusing ‘fue + participle’ can make Spanish sound clunky and translated.

英语经常使用被动语态,但西班牙语更倾向于主动结构或自复被动。学生常造出像 *’El libro fue escrito por Cervantes’ 这样生硬的句子,而更自然的表达是 ‘Cervantes escribió el libro’ 或者 ‘Se escribió el libro’。过度使用’fue + 过去分词’会让西班牙语显得笨拙且带有翻译腔。

Use the passive with ser mainly when the agent is expressed and is new or emphatic information. Otherwise, opt for an active construction or the impersonal/reflexive se. The se passive is extremely common: ‘Se venden coches aquí’ instead of ‘Coches son vendidos aquí’. Also, remember to make se constructions agree with the subject: ‘Se vende coche’ vs ‘Se venden coches’.

通常只有在动作执行者被明确提出且是新信息或需要强调时才用ser被动。否则,选择主动句式或无人称/自复se。自复被动非常普遍:’Se venden coches aquí’ 而非 ‘Coches son vendidos aquí’。同时注意se结构要跟主语保持一致:’Se vende coche’ 对比 ‘Se venden coches’。
