1. The ‘Verb Second’ Rule (V2) | 动词第二位规则

In German main clauses, the conjugated verb always occupies the second position in the sentence. Not necessarily the second word, but the second idea or constituent. The first position can be the subject, an adverb, a time phrase or even the object. The verb then follows, then the subject if it was not in position one. This rule is the backbone of German word order.

在德语主句中,变位动词始终位于句子的第二位。这不一定是第二个单词,而是第二个句子成分。第一位可以是主语、副词、时间短语,甚至是宾语。动词紧接其后,如果主语不在第一位,则出现在动词之后。这条规则是德语语序的核心。

  • Formula: [Element 1] + conjugated verb + [Subject, if not in 1] + …
  • 公式: [成分1] + 变位动词 + [主语,若不在第1位] + …

Example: Morgen (time) gehe (verb) ich (subject) ins Kino. (Tomorrow I am going to the cinema.)

例句:Morgen(时间)gehe(动词)ich(主语)ins Kino。(明天我去电影院。)

2. Verb Conjugation Formulas | 动词变位公式

Regular (weak) verbs follow a predictable pattern: stem + personal ending. Remove the -en from the infinitive to find the stem, then add the endings: -e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en. For spielen (to play): ich spiele, du spielst, er/sie/es spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie/Sie spielen. Irregular (strong) verbs change the stem vowel only for du and er/sie/es, e.g. sprechen → du sprichst, er spricht.

规则(弱变化)动词遵循可预测的模式:词干加人称词尾。去掉不定式的 -en 找到词干,然后加上词尾:-e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en。以 spielen(玩)为例:ich spiele, du spielst, er/sie/es spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie/Sie spielen。不规则(强变化)动词仅在 duer/sie/es 时改变词干元音,例如 sprechen → du sprichst, er spricht。

Person Ending (regular) e → i change (sprechen)
ich -e spreche
du -st sprichst
er/sie/es -t spricht
wir -en sprechen
ihr -t sprecht
sie/Sie -en sprechen

3. Noun Gender and Case Endings | 名词性与格词尾

Every German noun has a gender: masculine, feminine or neuter. The definite article (der, die, das) changes according to the case (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive). Use the following ‘resonance table’ as a formula to determine the correct article before a noun. Memorising the patterns for der/die/das in each case is vital for sentence accuracy.

每个德语名词都有一个性:阳性、阴性或中性。定冠词(der, die, das)根据格(第一格、第四格、第三格、第二格)变化。以下“冠词变格表”可作为确定名词前正确冠词的速查公式。牢记各格的 der/die/das 模式对句子准确性至关重要。

Case Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural
Nominative der die das die
Accusative den die das die
Dative dem der dem den (+n on noun)
Genitive des + (e)s der des + (e)s der

4. Adjective Endings Flowchart | 形容词词尾流程图

Adjective endings in German follow a logical three-step algorithm. First, determine whether the article before the noun is a der-word (der, die, das, etc.) or an ein-word (ein, kein, mein, etc.), or if there is no article. Second, identify the gender and case of the noun. Third, apply the appropriate ending: with a der-word the ending is weak (-e or -en); with an ein-word and no article the ending takes the strong signal (-er, -e, -es, -en depending on the der/die/das that would be there). This formula can be represented in a decision table.

德语形容词词尾遵循一个逻辑分明的三步算法。首先,判断名词前的冠词是定冠词类(der, die, das 等)还是不定冠词类(ein, kein, mein 等),或者无冠词。其次,确定名词的性和格。第三,套用相应的词尾:有定冠词时词尾弱变化(-e 或 -en);有不定冠词或无冠词时词尾需带有强信号(根据情况使用类似于 der/die/das 的词尾)。这一公式可用决策表呈现。

Article type Nominative Accusative Dative Genitive
Definite (der/die/das) -e (m/n), -e (f/pl) -en (m), -e (f/n/pl) -en (all) -en (all)
Indefinite/no article -er (m), -e (f), -es (n), -e (pl) -en (m), -e (f), -es (n), -e (pl) -em (m/n), -er (f), -en (pl) -en (m/n), -er (f/pl)

Think: ‘The adjective must show gender/case when the article does not.’ For example, ein guter Mann (a good man) – the -er on gut signals masculine nominative because ein does not.

记住:“当冠词无法体现性数格时,形容词就要扛起大旗。”例如 ein guter Mann(一个好男人),gut 上的 -er 体现了阳性第一格,因为 ein 没有这个信号。

5. Preposition Case Governance | 介词格支配

Prepositions in German behave like operators in a formula: they force the following noun phrase into a specific case. Some prepositions always take the accusative (durch, für, gegen, ohne, um, bis), some always the dative (aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu), and some are two-way prepositions (an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen). For two-way prepositions, use the formula: motion → accusative, static location → dative.

德语介词就像公式中的运算符:它们强制后面的名词短语使用特定的格。一些介词永远支配第四格(durch, für, gegen, ohne, um, bis),一些永远支配第三格(aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu),还有一些是静三动四介词(an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen)。对于静三动四介词,使用以下公式:位移方向 → 第四格,静止位置 → 第三格。

Accusative formula question: Wohin? (Where to?) → in die Schule (accusative). Dative formula question: Wo? (Where?) → in der Schule (dative). This question test is your quick theorem.

第四格公式提问: Wohin?(去哪儿?)→ in die Schule(第四格)。第三格公式提问: Wo?(在哪儿?)→ in der Schule(第三格)。这个提问法就是你的速判定理。

6. Word Order in Subordinate Clauses | 从句语序

Subordinate clauses (introduced by weil, dass, wenn, ob, als, damit, obwohl, etc.) push the conjugated verb to the very end of the clause. This is the SOV (subject-object-verb) formula. The word order in main clause remains V2, but inside the subordinate part everything leads to the final verb. This structure is a fundamental theorem for building complex sentences.

从句(由 weil, dass, wenn, ob, als, damit, obwohl 等引导)将变位动词推至从句的末尾。这就是主-宾-动 (SOV) 公式。主句语序仍保持动词第二位 (V2),但在从句内部,一切成分都导向句末动词。这一结构是构筑复杂句的基本定理。

Formula: Main clause + subordinating conjunction + Subject + … + conjugated verb.

公式: 主句 + 从句连词 + 主语 + … + 变位动词

Example: Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin. (English: I am staying home because I am ill.) Note bin at the end.

例句:Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin。(我待在家里,因为我病了。)注意 bin 在末尾。

7. Modal Verb Construction | 情态动词框架结构

Modal verbs (können, müssen, dürfen, sollen, wollen, mögen/möchten) form a bracket around the main action. The modal verb is conjugated in second position, and the main verb appears as an infinitive at the end of the clause. This forms a ‘sentence bracket’. The formula is essential for expressing ability, obligation and desire.

情态动词(können, müssen, dürfen, sollen, wollen, mögen/möchten)构成一个包围主要动作的“框架”。情态动词在第二位变位,而实义动词以不定式形式出现在句末。这形成了“句框”。该公式对于表达能力、义务和意愿至关重要。

Formula: Subject + modal verb (conjugated) + … + main verb (infinitive).

公式: 主语 + 情态动词(变位) + … + 实义动词(原形)

Example: Ich muss meine Hausaufgaben machen. (I must do my homework.)

例句:Ich muss meine Hausaufgaben machen。(我必须做作业。)

8. Perfect Tense Formula | 完成时构成公式

The perfect tense describes past events and is formed using an auxiliary verb (haben or sein) in second position plus the past participle at the end. Most verbs take haben; verbs of movement or change of state take sein. The past participle formula: ge- + verb stem + -t (regular) or ge- + modified stem + -en (irregular). Inseparable prefix verbs (e.g. verstehen) omit the ge-.

完成时描述过去事件,由位于第二位的助动词(habensein)加上句末的过去分词构成。大多数动词用 haben;移动或状态变化的动词用 sein。过去分词公式:ge- + 词干 + -t(规则),或 ge- + 变化词干 + -en(不规则)。不可分前缀动词(如 verstehen)去掉 ge-

Selection Theorem: If the verb expresses motion from A to B or a change of state (e.g. fahren, aufstehen, sterben), use sein. Otherwise, use haben.

选择定理: 若动词表示从 A 到 B 的位移或状态变化(如 fahren, aufstehen, sterben),用 sein。否则用 haben

Examples: Ich habe Fußball gespielt. (I played football.) / Er ist nach Berlin gefahren. (He travelled to Berlin.)

例句:Ich habe Fußball gespielt。(我踢了足球。)/ Er ist nach Berlin gefahren。(他乘车去了柏林。)

9. Future Tense and Conditional | 将来时与虚拟式

The future tense is formed with the auxiliary werden + infinitive. The conditional (Konjunktiv II) uses the subjunctive form of werden (würde) + infinitive, or the subjunctive form of the verb itself for common verbs (hätte, wäre, käme). Both structures follow the modal bracket pattern. At IGCSE, recognising and using werden + infinitive for plans and würde + infinitive for hypotheticals is the key formula.

将来时由助动词 werden + 不定式构成。条件式(虚拟式)使用 werden 的虚拟形式 würde + 不定式,或对常用动词直接用其虚拟形式(如 hätte, wäre, käme)。两种结构都遵循情态动词的句框模式。在 IGCSE 阶段,掌握用 werden + 不定式表达计划、用 würde + 不定式表达假设,即是核心公式。

Future: Ich werde morgen lernen. (I will study tomorrow.) Conditional: Ich würde gern ins Kino gehen. (I would like to go to the cinema.)

将来时: Ich werde morgen lernen.(我明天会学习。)条件式: Ich würde gern ins Kino gehen.(我很想去电影院。)

10. Relative Pronouns and Clauses | 关系代词与关系从句

Relative clauses provide additional information about a noun and are introduced by relative pronouns (der, die, das etc.), which take their gender and number from the antecedent but their case from their function inside the clause. The conjugated verb is sent to the end, exactly as in subordinate clauses. This is a powerful tool for adding detail to your writing and speaking.

关系从句对名词进行补充说明,由关系代词(der, die, das 等)引导。关系代词的性和数取先行词,格则取决于其在从句中的功能。变位动词同样被推至从句末尾,与从句规则一致。这是为写作与口语增添细节的有力工具。

Formula: Main clause + comma + relative pronoun + … + verb.

公式: 主句 + 逗号 + 关系代词 + … + 动词

Example: Das ist der Mann, der mir geholfen hat. (That is the man who helped me.) Here der is masculine nominative, and hat goes to the end.

例句:Das ist der Mann, der mir geholfen hat。(那就是帮了我的那个男人。)此处 der 为阳性第一格,hat 置于句末。

11. Negation with ‘nicht’ and ‘kein’ | 否定表达规则

To negate a German sentence you have two main options: nicht (not) and kein (no, not a). The rule of thumb is: use kein to negate an indefinite noun (a, any) – it works like an article; use nicht to negate everything else: verbs, adjectives, adverbs, definite nouns. The position of nicht is a formulaic puzzle: it goes before the element it negates, but if it negates the whole sentence, it goes at the end of the clause before the second part of the bracket (infinitive/past participle).

否定德语句子有两大王牌:nicht(不)和 kein(没有一个)。基本法则:使用 kein 否定带不定冠词(一个、一些)的名词——它像冠词一样变化;使用 nicht 否定其他一切:动词、形容词、副词、带定冠词的名词。nicht 的位置是一个公式难题:它放在被否定成分之前,但若否定全句,则位于句框第二成分(不定式/过去分词)之前的句末。

Kein Formula: kein + noun (with appropriate ending). Example: Ich habe kein Geld. (I have no money.) Nicht position: Zum Schluss nicht beim Satzklammer. Example: Ich kann heute nicht kommen. (I cannot come today.)

Kein 公式: kein + 名词(带相应词尾)。例句:Ich habe kein Geld。(我没有钱。)Nicht 位置: 在句框末尾之前。例句:Ich kann heute nicht kommen。(我今天不能来。)
