1. Background: From Legacy to 2026 | 背景：从旧版到2026年
The current WJEC AS French qualification, first taught in 2016, is built around two examination units. Unit 1 (Oral) assesses speaking through a discussion based on a stimulus card and a conversation on two themes. Unit 2 (Listening, Reading, Translation and Critical Response in Writing) covers comprehension, translation from and into French, and a structured written response to a question on culture or society. Although coherent, the 2016 specification has been critiqued for compartmentalising skills and limiting exposure to authentic Francophone cultural materials.
