📚 A-Level CAIE Music: Case Study Practical Drill | A-Level CAIE 音乐:案例分析实战演练

A case study question in CAIE A Level Music asks you to move beyond factual recall into the craft of musical argument. The best answers combine precise listening, score-based evidence and contextual awareness in one coherent narrative.

CAIE A Level 音乐中的案例分析题要求你超越事实记忆,进入音乐论证的层面。高分答案把准确的聆听、基于乐谱的证据和背景意识融为一条连贯的叙述。

1. Understanding the Case Study Question | 理解案例分析题目

A CAIE Music case study typically presents an unfamiliar or familiar extract and asks you to discuss how musical elements create effect, or how a work reflects its context. The question may focus on one movement, one section, or a comparison between two extracts.

CAIE 音乐中的案例分析题通常提供一段陌生或熟悉的乐段,要求你讨论音乐元素如何产生效果,或作品如何反映其背景。题目可能聚焦于一个乐章、一个段落,或两段选段的比较。

Before writing, underline the command words and the focus. ‘Analyse’ means break down elements; ‘evaluate’ means weigh significance; ‘compare’ means identify similarities and differences. These words shape the structure of your response.

动笔前,先圈出指令词和考查重点。’Analyse’ 表示拆解音乐元素;’evaluate’ 表示判断其重要性;’compare’ 表示找出相同点与不同点。这些词决定了你答案的结构。

A common mistake is to write a general essay about the whole work. Instead, tailor every paragraph to the precise extract and the precise question. If the question is about harmony, do not spend two pages on tempo markings.

一个常见错误是针对整部作品泛泛而谈。相反,每一段都要紧扣选段和具体问题。如果问题是关于和声,就不要花两页篇幅讨论速度标记。

2. Command Words and Marking Objectives | 指令词与评分目标

CAIE mark schemes reward three broad skills: knowledge of musical vocabulary and context, analytical understanding of how elements work, and evaluative judgement about musical effect. A balanced answer addresses all three.

CAIE 评分标准奖励三类能力:音乐术语与背景知识、对音乐元素如何运作的分析理解,以及对音乐效果的评价判断。一份均衡的答案需要涵盖这三方面。

A top-band answer does not label a device and stop. It follows the label with a precise location, a description of the sound, and an explanation of why it matters in that passage. For example, do not simply state ‘there is a suspension’; say where it occurs, which note is suspended, and how it creates tension.

高分答案不会只给术语就停笔。它会在术语后写出具体位置、声音描述,并解释该手法在这一段落中为何重要。例如,不要只写’有一个挂留音’;要说明它在哪里出现、哪个音被挂留,以及它如何制造紧张感。

Use assessment objective language in your planning. Think of each paragraph as answering: ‘What do I hear? How is it made? What is its effect in this context?’ This keeps your answer rooted in evidence rather than vague impression.

在构思时使用评分目标的语言。每一段都问自己:’我听到了什么?它是怎么形成的?在这个语境中有什么效果?’这样能让答案紧扣证据,而不是模糊的印象。

3. Building a Context File | 建立背景档案

For every set work or case study piece, build a one-page context file. Include composer dates, place of composition, genre, instrumentation, intended venue, and any relevant commission or dedication.

为每一部指定作品或案例作品建立一页背景档案。包括作曲家生卒年、创作地点、体裁、配器、演出场地,以及任何相关的委约或题献信息。

Context File Field Example Entry
Work J. S. Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G major, BWV 1049
Date c. 1720
Genre Concerto grosso
Instrumentation Solo violin, two recorders, strings, continuo

Do not treat context as an isolated fact sheet. The purpose of the context file is to help you link features to their historical function. For instance, knowing that the concerto grosso contrasts a small solo group with a larger ripieno explains why the texture shifts so sharply.

不要把背景当成孤立的知识清单。背景档案的目的是帮助你把手法和历史功能联系起来。例如,知道大协奏曲由小型独奏组与较大的全奏组形成对比,就能解释为什么织体变化如此鲜明。

Before writing an answer, spend two or three minutes recalling the relevant context file and selecting only the details that illuminate the extract. This prevents irrelevant biography dumping.

在作答前,花两三分钟回忆相关的背景档案,只选择能说明选段的细节。这样可以避免无关的生平介绍堆砌。

4. Analysing Melody and Harmony | 分析音乐元素:旋律与和声

Start with melody: describe the contour (ascending, descending, arch-shaped), interval content (conjunct or disjunct), phrase lengths, and any sequences, imitation or ornamentation. Be specific about the direction and range.

从旋律入手:描述轮廓(上行、下行、拱形)、音程构成(级进或跳进)、乐句长度,以及是否有模进、模仿或装饰音。要具体说明旋律方向和音域。

Then examine harmony: identify chord types (major, minor, diminished, seventh), cadences (perfect, imperfect, plagal, interrupted), and any modulations to related keys. Note the harmonic rhythm, whether chords change every beat, every bar, or more slowly.

接着分析和声:判断和弦类型(大三、小三、减三、七和弦)、终止式(正格、不完全、变格、阻碍终止),以及是否转调到近关系调。注意和声节奏,即和弦是每拍、每小节还是更慢地变化。

Always connect melody and harmony to effect. A disjunct melody over a slow harmonic rhythm can sound expansive; a conjunct sequence over rapid chord changes can feel driven and urgent. Use the score to test your claim.

始终把旋律、和声与效果联系起来。在缓慢的和声节奏上跳进的旋律听起来舒展;在快速和弦变化上的级进模进则显得急迫。用乐谱来检验你的判断。

5. Texture, Timbre and Dynamics | 分析织体、音色与力度

Texture describes how musical lines are combined. Use precise terms such as monophonic, homophonic, melody-dominated homophony, polyphonic, imitative or fugal. Identify when the texture thickens or thins, because that change is often structurally important.

织体描述音乐线条如何组合。要使用准确术语,如单声部、主调、旋律加伴奏的主调织体、复调、模仿式或赋格式织体。要指出织体何时变厚、变薄,因为这些变化往往有结构意义。

Timbre is often under-used in case studies. Mention specific instruments, registers, mutes, bowing techniques, pedalling, or vocal timbre. For example, a muted trumpet in a slow movement creates a distant, veiled colour that is very different from a bright open horn.

音色在案例分析中经常被忽略。要指出具体乐器、音区、弱音器、弓法、踏板或人声音色。例如,慢乐章中使用弱音器的小号营造出遥远、朦胧的色彩,与明亮的开放圆号截然不同。

Dynamics can be gradual or
