In WJEC IGCSE Art and Design, your marks are not simply awarded for making a beautiful final piece. The specification is built around four Assessment Objectives that reward investigation, experimentation, recording and personal response. The WJEC mark scheme is built on four equally weighted Assessment Objectives: AO1 (develop), AO2 (refine), AO3 (record) and AO4 (present). No matter which component you are working on, every page, experiment and annotation should provide evidence for at least one of these objectives.

High-scoring candidates do not just stick in a printed image of an artist’s work. They select artists who connect to their own theme, identify the artist’s use of formal elements, and explain how that research has influenced their own choices. A strong artist study includes a visual response, not only biographical facts.
