Cell biology underpins much of the Cambridge AS & A Level Biology course. This article reviews the structural organisation of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, the functions of key organelles, and the principles and calculations behind light and electron microscopy.

1. The Cell Theory | 细胞学说
The modern cell theory states that all living organisms are composed of one or more cells, the cell is the basic unit of structure and function, and all cells arise from pre-existing cells by cell division.

Prokaryotic cells, such as bacteria, lack a membrane-bound nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. Their DNA is circular and lies free in the cytoplasm as a nucleoid.
