Many reactions are reversible: the forward reaction and the backward reaction occur at the same time. When the rate of the forward reaction equals the rate of the backward reaction, the system reaches dynamic equilibrium. At equilibrium, the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant, but both reactions continue at the molecular level.
