Environmental science tells us what is happening to the planet, but it does not tell us what we ought to do. This is where environmental ethics becomes important. Ethics is the branch of philosophy that studies right and wrong, justice and responsibility. When applied to the environment, it asks how we should treat nature and how our choices affect other people and living things.
