Statics modelling is the process of turning a real physical situation into a mathematical model in which the object is at rest or moving with constant velocity. The aim is to find unknown forces, reaction components or stability conditions by applying the principles of equilibrium.
静力学建模是将真实物理情境转变成数学模型的过程。在该模型中,物体处于静止状态或以恒定速度运动。建模的目的是通过应用平衡原理,求出未知力、约束反力分量或稳定性条件。
1. What is Statics Modelling? | 什么是静力学建模?
Statics is the branch of mechanics that studies bodies in equilibrium. A body is in equilibrium when its resultant force is zero and, for a rigid body, the resultant moment is also zero. If the body is initially at rest, it remains at rest.
静力学是研究平衡状态下物体的力学分支。当一个物体所受的合力为零,且对于刚体来说合力矩也为零时,该物体即处于平衡状态。如果物体最初静止,它将保持静止。
In A-Level Mechanics, statics modelling is used to solve problems involving particles, rods, ladders, beams and structures. The model allows us to ignore small details and focus on the quantities that matter: forces, distances, angles and coefficients of friction.
在 A-Level 力学中,静力学建模用于解决涉及质点、杆、梯子、梁和结构的问题。模型使我们能够忽略次要细节,而把注意力集中在重要量上:力、距离、角度和摩擦系数。
2. Core Assumptions in Statics Models | 静力学模型的核心假设
No mathematical model can include every physical detail. We make assumptions to simplify a problem while still capturing its essential features. The choice of assumption changes the type of solution.
任何数学模型都不可能包含所有物理细节。我们通过假设来简化问题,同时保留其本质特征。假设的选择会改变解的类型。

A particle: all forces act through one point, so rotation is ignored.

A rigid body: the distance between any two points in the body is fixed, so moments and rotation must be considered.

Light: the weight of the object is negligible, such as a light string.

Inextensible: the length of a string or rod does not change.

Uniform rod: the mass is evenly distributed, so weight acts at the midpoint.

When dealing with a rod or a ladder, the rigid-body assumption is essential because moments about the base or about a support are required. When dealing with a small object on a plane, the particle model may be sufficient.

3. Free-Body Diagrams | 受力分析图
A free-body diagram shows the chosen body by itself, with every external force acting on it. These forces are drawn from the points where they act, with their directions and labels clearly shown.
受力分析图将所选物体单独画出,并标出作用在它上面的所有外力。这些力应从其作用点画出,并清楚标明方向和名称。

Weight acts vertically downward from the centre of mass.

A normal reaction acts perpendicular to the surface at the point of contact.

Friction acts parallel to the surface and opposes the motion or the tendency to move.

A clear diagram is the most important step in statics. It converts a wordy problem into a set of equations, and it prevents forces from being missed or drawn in the wrong direction.
