Writing 591 N instead of 590 N in such a question would lose the final accuracy mark. The mark scheme states that only ‘one mark’ is lost for premature rounding, but the final A mark is usually lost.

As a strategy, this paper rewarded students who completed the easy marks first. If a ‘Show that’ question is worth 3 marks, and you cannot think of a starting equation, it is better to move on than to attempt it with no valid method, as AQA will not award marks for random force calculations.
