1. What Is a Database? | 什么是数据库?
A database is an organised collection of data that can be easily accessed, managed and updated. The data is stored in a structured way, usually in tables, so that it can be searched and processed efficiently.

A Database Management System (DBMS) is software that enables users to define, create, maintain and control access to the database. Common examples of DBMS software are MySQL, Oracle and Microsoft Access. The DBMS acts as an interface between the database and its users.

2. Data, Information and Knowledge | 数据、信息与知识
Data is raw, unprocessed facts without context. For example, the number 75 on its own does not tell us anything.

Information is data that has been processed and given meaning. For example, “A student scored 75 marks in the Computer Science test” is information.

Knowledge uses information together with experience and context to make decisions. For example, a teacher who knows that 75 is an excellent score can decide to praise the student.
