📚 English Grammar: Common Mistakes in Middle School and How to Overcome Them | 英语语法考点:初中易错点归纳与突破

Middle school English grammar lays the foundation for all future language learning. However, certain grammar points are notoriously error-prone for students. This guide identifies the most common mistakes and provides clear strategies to overcome them, helping you build accuracy and confidence in both writing and speaking.

初中英语语法是整个英语学习的基础。然而,有几类语法知识点特别容易出错。本篇指南归纳了初中阶段最常见的语法错误,并给出清晰的突破方法,帮助你在写作和口语中做到更准确、更自信。

1. Present Simple Third-Person Singular | 一般现在时第三人称单数

The present simple describes habits, facts, and routines. The most frequent error is forgetting to change the verb when the subject is he, she, or it. For example, “She like music” is wrong; the correct form is “She likes music”. The verb takes -s in the affirmative, while questions and negatives use “does” + base form: “Does she like music?” not “Does she likes music?”

一般现在时用于描述习惯、事实和日常行为。最常见的错误是当主语是 he、she 或 it 时,忘记改变动词形式。例如,”She like music” 是错误的,正确形式是 “She likes music”。肯定句中动词要加 -s;疑问句和否定句用 “does” + 动词原形:”Does she like music?” 而不是 “Does she likes music?”。

Remember these spelling rules:

  • Add -s to most verbs: play → plays; read → reads
  • Add -es to verbs ending in -s, -z, -x, -ch, -sh, -o: go → goes; watch → watches; fix → fixes
  • Change consonant + -y to -i and add -es: study → studies; carry → carries

牢记拼写规则:

  • 大多数动词直接加 -s:play → plays;read → reads
  • 以 -s、-z、-x、-ch、-sh、-o 结尾的动词加 -es:go → goes;watch → watches;fix → fixes
  • 辅音字母 + -y 结尾,变 -y 为 -i 再加 -es:study → studies;carry → carries

2. Countable and Uncountable Nouns | 可数名词与不可数名词

Students often confuse countable and uncountable nouns. Uncountable nouns such as water, rice, and advice cannot take “a” or “an” and do not have plural forms. Use “some” with positive sentences and polite offers, and “any” with negative sentences and questions. Use “many” with countable plurals and “much” with uncountable nouns: “How many apples?” but “How much water?”

学生常常混淆可数名词与不可数名词。像 water、rice、advice 这样的不可数名词不能用 “a” 或 “an” 修饰,也没有复数形式。肯定句和礼貌提请用 “some”;否定句和疑问句用 “any”。”many” 修饰可数名词复数,”much” 修饰不可数名词:”How many apples?”,但 “How much water?”。

Common uncountable nouns to memorise:

  • water, milk, juice, tea, coffee
  • rice, bread, meat, sugar, salt
  • information, advice, homework, furniture, weather, money

需要牢记的常见不可数名词:

  • water、milk、juice、tea、coffee
  • rice、bread、meat、sugar、salt
  • information、advice、homework、furniture、weather、money

3. Articles: a, an, the | 冠词:a、an、the

The choice between “a” and “an” depends on the sound, not the letter. Use “an” before vowel sounds: an apple, an hour (silent h). Use “a” before consonant sounds: a university, a European country. Use “the” for something specific or already known: “I saw a cat. The cat was black.” A common mistake is omitting articles or using them incorrectly with plurals and uncountables.

选择 “a” 还是 “an” 取决于发音,而不是字母。元音音素前用 “an”:an apple、an hour(h 不发音);辅音音素前用 “a”:a university、a European country(university 以辅音音素 /j/ 开头)。特指或上文已提到的事物用 “the”:”I saw a cat. The cat was black.”。常见错误是漏掉冠词,或者把冠词误用于复数名词和不可数名词。

Rule Example
a + consonant sound a book, a university, a one-way ticket
an + vowel sound an apple, an hour, an honest man
the + specific noun Open the door; the sun rises in the east

4. Simple Past and Irregular Verbs | 一般过去时与不规则动词

The simple past is used for completed actions in the past. Regular verbs add -ed, but irregular verbs change form: go → went, eat → ate, take → took. For questions and negatives, use “did” + base form: “Did you go?” not “Did you went?”; “He didn’t see” not “He didn’t saw”. Memorising irregular verb patterns is essential to avoid common errors.

一般过去时表示过去已经完成的动作。规则动词加 -ed,不规则动词则要变化形式:go → went、eat → ate、take → took。疑问句和否定句用 “did” + 动词原形:”Did you go?” 而不是 “Did you went?”;”He didn’t see” 而不是 “He didn’t saw”。熟记不规则动词表是避免错误的关键。

Common irregular verbs:

  • begin → began → begun
  • come → came → come
  • do → did → done
  • get → got → got
  • give → gave → given
  • see → saw → seen
  • write → wrote → written

常见不规则动词:

  • begin → began → begun
  • come → came → come
  • do → did → done
  • get → got → got
  • give → gave → given
  • see → saw → seen
  • write → wrote → written

5. Present Perfect vs Simple Past | 现在完成时与一般过去时

The present perfect (have/has + past participle) connects the past to the present: “I have lost my key” (I still don’t have it now). The simple past describes a completed action at a specific time in the past: “I lost my key yesterday”. Use “for” + duration and “since” + starting point: “for two years”, “since 2020”. Do not use specific past time expressions with the present perfect: “I have seen him yesterday” is incorrect.

现在完成时(have/has + 过去分词)连接过去与现在:”I have lost my key”(我现在仍然没有钥匙)。一般过去时描述过去某个特定时间已经完成的动作:”I lost my key yesterday”。时间表达上,”for” 后接时间段,”since” 后接时间起点:”for two years”、”since 2020″。现在完成时不能与具体的过去时间状语连用:”I have seen him yesterday” 是错误句。

I have lived here for five years. | I have lived here since 2019.

6. Prepositions of Time and Place | 时间与地点介词

Prepositions are a major source of errors. For time: use “in” with months, years, and parts of the day (in May, in 2024, in the morning); “on” with days and dates (on Monday, on March 5th); “at” with clock times (at 7 o’clock). For place: “in” for enclosed spaces (in the classroom), “on” for surfaces (on the desk), “at” for specific points (at the bus stop). Do not say “in Monday” or “on the morning”.

介词是错误高发区。时间方面:in 用于月份、年份和一天中的时段(in May、in 2024、in the morning);on 用于星期和具体日期(on Monday、on March 5th);at 用于钟点(at 7 o’clock)。地点方面:in 用于封闭空间(in the classroom);on 用于表面(on the desk);at 用于具体地点(at the bus stop)。不要出现 “in Monday” 或 “on the morning” 这类错误。

Time Example
in in summer, in the evening, in 2024
on on Friday, on June 1st, on my birthday
at at 8:30, at noon, at night, at the weekend

7. Tag Questions | 反意疑问句

A tag question is used to confirm information. The auxiliary verb takes the opposite polarity: positive statement → negative tag; negative statement → positive tag. For example, “She is a teacher, isn’t she?”; “They don’t like tea, do they?”. Special case: “I am” changes to “aren’t I?” in the tag. For imperative sentences, use “will you?” or “shall we?”.

反意疑问句用于确认信息。助动词采用相反的极性:肯定陈述 → 否定疑问;否定陈述 → 肯定疑问。例如:”She is a teacher, isn’t she?”;”They don’t like tea, do they?”。特殊情况:”I am
