📚 English Grammar Structures: Core Exam Points | 英语语法结构:核心考点梳理

Grammar is the skeleton of the English language. In exams, students are often tested not on isolated rules, but on the ability to recognise and produce accurate structures in context. This guide outlines the ten most important grammar areas for exam success, with clear explanations and contrastive Chinese notes.

语法是英语语言的骨架。考试中,出题者往往并不直接考孤立的规则,而是考查学生在语境中识别和运用准确结构的能力。本指南梳理了考试中最常考的十大语法板块,配合中英对照讲解,帮助考生高效复习。

1. Sentence Structure: Simple, Compound, Complex | 句子结构:简单句、并列句与复合句

A simple sentence contains one independent clause: “She reads every morning.” A compound sentence joins two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction: “She reads every morning, and she writes in the evening.” A complex sentence contains one independent clause and at least one dependent clause: “She reads every morning because she loves stories.”

简单句包含一个独立分句,例如“She reads every morning.”。并列句用并列连词连接两个独立分句,例如“She reads every morning, and she writes in the evening.”。复合句包含一个独立分句和至少一个从属分句,例如“She reads every morning because she loves stories.”。

Examiners often test the correct use of conjunctions and punctuation. Remember that a comma alone cannot join two independent clauses; this error is called a “comma splice”. Use a comma plus conjunction, a semicolon, or a full stop.

考官常考查连词和标点的正确使用。记住:单独的逗号不能连接两个独立分句,这种错误被称为“逗号粘连”。应使用“逗号+连词”、分号或句号来连接。

2. Subject-Verb Agreement | 主谓一致

The verb must agree with its subject in number and person. For example: “The student is ready” and “The students are ready”. Common problem areas include indefinite pronouns (everyone, somebody), collective nouns (team, family), and phrases that come between subject and verb.

谓语动词必须在数和人称上与主语保持一致。例如:“The student is ready”和“The students are ready”。常见易错点包括不定代词(everyone、somebody)、集合名词(team、family),以及插入在主语和动词之间的短语。

  • With “each”, “every”, “either”, “neither”, “everyone”, “nobody”: use a singular verb. | 遇到 each、every、either、neither、everyone、nobody 时,用单数动词。

  • With “either…or” and “neither…nor”: the verb agrees with the nearer subject. | either…or 和 neither…nor 结构中,动词与较近的主语保持一致。

  • Collective nouns can take singular or plural verb depending on whether the group acts as one unit or as individuals. | 集合名词根据“整体”还是“个体成员”的含义,可接单数或复数动词。

3. Tense and Aspect | 时态与体态

Tense locates an event in time (past, present, future), while aspect shows whether the action is completed, ongoing, or repeated. The main aspects are simple, continuous (progressive), perfect, and perfect continuous.

时态将事件定位在时间轴上(过去、现在、将来),而体态表明动作是否已完成、正在进行或重复发生。主要体态包括一般、进行、完成和完成进行。

Present: I write | I am writing | I have written | I have been writing

Past: I wrote | I was writing | I had written | I had been writing

Key exam traps: present perfect is used for past actions with present relevance, not for finished past time with a specific date. “I have seen him yesterday” is wrong; write “I saw him yesterday”.

重要考点陷阱:现在完成时表示过去动作对现在有影响,不能用于带有具体过去时间的句子。“I have seen him yesterday”是错误的,应写“I saw him yesterday”。

4. Voice: Active and Passive | 语态:主动语态与被动语态

The passive voice is formed with the verb “to be” plus the past participle: “The report was written by the team.” The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. The agent is introduced by “by” and is often omitted when unknown or unimportant.

被动语态由“be + 过去分词”构成,例如“The report was written by the team.”。主动句中的宾语变成被动句的主语,施动者用 by 引出;当施动者未知或不重要时常常省略。

Passive tenses follow the tense of “be”: present simple “is written”, past simple “was written”, present perfect “has been written”, future “will be written”. Note that modal passives use “modal + be + past participle”: “The task must be finished today.”

被动语态通过 be 的时态变化体现时态:一般现在时 is written,一般过去时 was written,现在完成时 has been written,一般将来时 will be written。注意情态动词被动式为“情态动词 + be + 过去分词”:The task must be finished today.

5. Modal Verbs and Mood | 情态动词与语气

Modal verbs (can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would) express ability, permission, possibility, obligation, and advice. After a modal verb, use the bare infinitive: “She can swim”, not “She can to swim”.

情态动词(can、could、may、might、must、shall、should、will、would)表达能力、许可、可能性、义务和建议。情态动词后接动词原形,例如“She can swim”,不能说“She can to swim”。

Mood includes the indicative (statements and questions), imperative (commands), and subjunctive. The subjunctive appears in formal contexts: “I suggest that he be present” or “If I were you, I would wait.” The present subjunctive uses the base form of the verb; the past subjunctive uses “were” for all persons.

语气包括陈述语气(陈述句和疑问句)、祈使语气(命令)和虚拟语气。虚拟语气出现在正式语境中:I suggest that he be present 或 If I were you, I would wait.。现在虚拟式用动词原形;过去虚拟式所有人称都用 were。

6. Conditional Sentences | 条件句

Conditionals express a condition and its result. There are four main types: zero (general truths), first (real future), second (unreal present/future), and third (unreal past). Mixed conditionals combine past and present.

条件句表达“条件”和“结果”的关系。主要有四种类型:零条件句(普遍真理)、第一条件句(真实将来)、第二条件句(非真实现在/将来)和第三条件句(非真实过去)。混合条件句结合过去与现在。

Type Structure Example
Zero If + present simple, present simple If water boils, it becomes steam.
First If + present simple, will + base verb If it rains, we will stay home.
Second If + past simple, would + base verb If I had more time, I would travel.
Third If + past perfect, would have + past participle If she had studied, she would have passed.

In formal English, “were” replaces “was” in the second conditional: “If I were rich, I would buy a house.” The phrase “If I were you” is a fixed expression.

在正式英语中,第二条件句用 were 代替 was:“If I were rich, I would buy a house.”。“If I were you”是固定表达。

7. Relative Clauses | 关系从句

Relative clauses give extra information about a noun. They begin with relative pronouns: who (people), which (things), that (people or things), whose (possession), and whom (object form, formal).

关系从句为名词提供附加信息,由关系代词引导:who(人)、which(物)、that(人或物)、whose(所属关系)和 whom(宾语形式,正式用法)。

Defining relative clauses are essential to identify the noun: “The book that I bought is interesting.” Non-defining relative clauses add extra information and are set off by commas: “My brother, who lives in London, is a doctor.” In non-defining clauses, “that” cannot replace “who” or “which”.

限定性关系从句对识别名词必不可少:“The book that I bought is interesting.”。非限定性关系从句仅补充附加信息,需要用逗号隔开:“My brother, who lives in London, is a doctor.”。非限定性从句中不能用 that 替代 who 或 which。

When the relative pronoun is the object of the clause, it can be omitted in defining clauses: “The film (that) we watched was excellent.” This is a common exam point.

当关系代词在从句中作宾语时,在限定性从句中可以省略:“The film (that) we watched was excellent.”。这是常见考点。

8. Non-finite Verbs: Gerunds and Infinitives | 非谓语动词:动名词与不定式

Gerunds (verb + -ing) and infinitives (to + base verb) function as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs. Knowing which verb patterns follow them is essential. Some verbs take only gerunds: enjoy, avoid, finish, mind, consider, suggest. Some take only infinitives: decide, hope, plan, want, expect, learn.

动名词(动词 + -ing)和不定式(to + 动词原形)可充当名词、形容词或副词。掌握哪种动词后可接哪一种形式至关重要。有些动词只接动名词:enjoy、avoid、finish、mind、consider、suggest。有些只接不定式:decide、hope、plan、want、expect、learn。

  • Verbs of perception combine with bare infinitive or gerund: “I saw him cross the road” (completed action) vs “I saw him crossing the road” (in progress). | 感官动词可接不带 to 的不定式或动名词:I saw him cross the road 表示“看见穿过马路”的完整动作;I saw him crossing the road 表示“正在穿”的过程。

  • Some verbs change meaning with form: “remember to post” (remember before the action) vs “remember posting” (remember after the action). | 有些动词后面接不同形式含义不同:remember to post 表示“记得要去寄”的动作尚未发生;remember posting 表示“记得寄过”的动作已经发生。

9. Articles and Determiners | 冠词与限定词

Articles are a, an, the, and the zero article. “A/an” introduces a singular countable noun for the first time. “The” refers to a specific noun that is known to the listener or has been mentioned before. The zero article is used with plural and uncountable nouns when speaking generally.

冠词包括 a、an、the 和零冠词。a/an 用于首次提到的可数名词单数。the 指听者已知或前文提到过的特定名词。零冠词用于泛指复数名词和不可数名词。

Common errors: “I have a good news” is wrong because “news” is uncountable; write “I have good news” or “I have a piece of good news”. Also, “the” is used with superlatives, unique things, and the names of certain geographical features: “the best answer”, “the sun”, “the River Thames”.

常见错误:I have a good news 是错误的,因为 news 是不可数名词;应写 I have good news 或 I have a piece of good news。另外,the 用于最高级、独一无二的事物和某些地理名词前:the best answer、the sun、the River Thames。

Determiners include possessives (my, your), demonstratives (this, these), quantifiers (some, any, much, many, few, little), and numbers. The choice depends on countability and meaning. “Much” and “little” are used with uncountable nouns; “many” and “few” with countable plurals.

限定词包括所有格(my、your)、指示词(this、these)、数量词(some、any、much、many、few、little)和数词。选词取决于名词的可数性与意义。much 和 little 修饰不可数名词;many 和 few 修饰可数名词复数。

10. Reported Speech and Backshift | 间接引语与时态后移

Reported speech says what someone else said without using exact words. Tense usually shifts back: present simple becomes past simple, present continuous becomes past continuous, present perfect becomes past perfect, and past simple usually becomes past perfect. “Will” becomes “would”, “can” becomes “could”, and “may” becomes “might”.

间接引语不用原话而转述他人的话。时态通常后移:一般现在时变为一般过去时,现在进行时变为过去进行时,现在完成时变为过去完成时,一般过去时通常变为过去完成时。will 变为 would,can 变为 could,may 变为 might。

Direct: “I am tired,” she said. → Indirect: She said (that) she was tired.

Pronouns and time expressions also change: “now” becomes “then”, “today” becomes “that day”, “tomorrow” becomes “the next day”, “yesterday” becomes “the day before”. If the reporting verb is in the present (says), the tense does not shift: “She says she is tired.”

代词和时间状语也要相应变化:now 变为 then, today 变为 that day, tomorrow 变为 the next day, yesterday 变为 the day before。如果引述动词是现在时(says),时态不需要后移:“She says she is tired.”。

Questions in reported speech use statement word order, not question word order: “She asked where I lived,” not “She asked where did I live.” The question mark is not used in an indirect question.

间接引语中的疑问句要用陈述语序,不能用疑问语序:She asked where I lived.,不能说 She asked where did I live.。间接问句不加问号。
