📚 IGCSE History: Complete Answering Techniques for Every Question Type | IGCSE历史:各题型答题技巧汇总
In the IGCSE History examination, marks are awarded for both knowledge and skills. Different question types demand different approaches, from short factual answers to source analysis and extended essays. Understanding the purpose of each task is the first step towards scoring highly.
在IGCSE历史考试中,分数既来自知识也来自技能。不同题型要求不同的作答方法,从简短的事实性回答到史料分析再到拓展论文。理解每项任务的目的是迈向高分的第一步。
1. Command Words: Know What You Are Asked To Do | 指令词:明确题目要求
Each question begins with a command word that defines the cognitive level expected. For example, ‘state’ or ‘name’ requires one-word or short facts, while ‘explain’ asks for reasons and ‘evaluate’ demands a judgement.
每道题目都以一个指令词开头,它规定了所期望的认知层次。例如,”state”或”name”要求单词或简短事实,而”explain”要求给出原因,”evaluate”则要求做出判断。
Prioritise learning the glossary of command words from the syllabus. Bring a checklist to the exam and underline the command word in each question before writing.
优先学习教学大纲中的指令词词汇表。考试时带上清单,并在答题前标出每道题中的指令词。
-
State, name, identify: give a brief fact or facts without explanation.
State, name, identify(陈述、命名、识别):给出简短事实,无需解释。
-
Explain: provide reasons or causes, using evidence and logical linking.
Explain(解释):给出理由或原因,运用证据与逻辑关联。
-
Compare: identify similarities and differences.
Compare(比较):指出相同点和不同点。
-
Evaluate / How far: reach a balanced judgement using criteria.
Evaluate / How far(评价/到什么程度):运用标准达成平衡判断。
Misreading the command word is one of the most common reasons students lose marks. Always check whether the question asks for a description or an explanation.
误读指令词是学生失分的最常见原因之一。永远检查题目要求的是描述还是解释。
2. Multiple-Choice and Short-Answer Questions | 选择题与简答题技巧
Short-answer questions appear in Paper 1 Section A and often test recall of key facts, dates and people. They may be worth 2 to 6 marks, so allocate time according to marks.
简答题出现在Paper 1 Section A,常测试对关键事实、日期与人物的回忆。分值通常为2到6分,应按分值分配时间。
For 2-mark questions, give two relevant points. For 4-mark questions, aim for four distinct points or two developed points. Never include irrelevant material; examiners reward relevance, not length.
对于2分题,给出两个相关要点。对于4分题,目标是四个不同要点或两个充分展开的要点。切勿包含无关内容;考官奖励相关性而非长度。
For multiple-choice questions, create a mini ‘explanation’ for the option you select, and for each option you reject, so you can verify your reasoning.
对于选择题,为你选择的选项构建一个微型”解释”,同时也为每个排除的选项构建,以验证你的推理。
Use a process of elimination by reading every option first. Beware of choices that are partly true but too broad or too narrow.
先读完所有选项,再用排除法。当心那些部分正确但过于宽泛或过于狭窄的选项。
3. Explaining Causes and Consequences | 解释原因与后果类答题技巧
This is the backbone of Paper 1 Section B. A classic instruction is: ‘Explain why…’ or ‘What were the consequences of…?’. To reach higher bands, you must show links between events, not just list facts.
这类题是Paper 1 Section B的核心。典型指令是:”解释为什么……”或”……的后果是什么?”。要达到更高分数段,你必须展示事件之间的联系,而不仅仅罗列事实。
Use the PEEL structure in each paragraph: Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link.
在每个段落中使用PEEL结构:要点(Point)、证据(Evidence)、解释(Explanation)、联系(Link)。
-
Point: state one clear factor or cause in a full sentence.
要点:用完整句子陈述一个明确的因素或原因。
-
Evidence: name a specific event, date, or statistic that supports it.
证据:说出支持该点的具体事件、日期或统计数据。
-
Explanation: say why this caused the outcome or how it contributed.
解释:说明为什么这能导致结果或它如何起作用。
-
Link: connect the point back to the question and to the next point.
联系:将要点连接回题目,并连接到下一点。
For ‘consequences’ questions, group consequences into political, economic, social and international categories. This creates a comprehensive answer and helps you avoid missing dimensions.
对于”后果”类问题,将后果分为政治、经济、社会和国际类别。这能形成全面答案,并帮助你避免遗漏维度。
4. Comparing and Contrasting | 比较与对比类答题技巧
Questions such as ‘Compare the importance of…’ or ‘In what ways were the policies of… different?’ ask you to identify both similarities and differences.
诸如”比较……的重要性”或”……的政策有何不同?”的问题要求你指出相同点与不同点。
Do not use the ‘block method’ where you write everything about A then everything about B, because the examiner must do the comparison. Instead use the ‘point-by-point’ method: compare the same aspect under one thematic heading.
不要使用”分段法”(先写A的所有内容再写B的所有内容),因为考官需要自己去比较。而应使用”逐点对比法”:在同一个主题标题下比较同一个方面。
Create a table on your planning page with two columns and three rows. Fill in three areas to compare, such as aims, methods and results.
在草稿纸上画一个两列三行的表格。填入三个比较领域,例如目标、方法和结果。
Make sure you use comparative language: ‘whereas’, ‘similarly’, ‘in contrast’, ‘more than’. These signal clear comparison to the examiner.
务必使用比较性语言:”whereas”(然而)、”similarly”(类似地)、”in contrast”(相比之下)、”more than”(比……更)。这些向考官清楚表明你在进行比较。
5. Source Work: Inference and Utility | 史料分析:推断与利用
Paper 2 is entirely source-based. One common question asks: ‘What can you infer from Source A about…?’ For inference questions, make a statement that is not directly written in the source but is logically implied.
Paper 2全部基于史料。一个常见问题是:”关于……,你能从史料A推断出什么?”对于推断题,要做出一个并非史料中直接写明但逻辑上隐含的陈述。
Follow the formula: Quote + Inference. First quote a short phrase or detail from the source, then add ‘this suggests that…’ and explain the deeper meaning.
遵循公式:引文 + 推断。首先引用史料中的短语或细节,然后加上”这暗示着……”并解释深层含义。
For utility questions (‘How useful is Source A…?’), assess both content and provenance. A source is useful if it reveals information, shows opinion or highlights bias, even if it is not entirely reliable.
对于可利用性问题(”史料A……有多大用处?”),要同时评估内容与来源出处。一则史料如果能揭示信息、显示观点或突出偏见,即使不完全可靠,也是有用的。
Use the acronym ‘CUSTARD’ to remember the tests: Context, Usefulness, Source, Trustworthiness, Accuracy, Relevance, Date.
使用缩写”CUSTARD”帮助记忆测试项:背景(Context)、用处(Usefulness)、来源(Source)、可信度(Trustworthiness)、准确性(Accuracy)、相关性(Relevance)、日期(Date)。
6. Source Work: Reliability and Cross-Referencing | 史料分析:可靠性与交叉印证
Questions on reliability often appear as: ‘How reliable is Source B as evidence for…?’ You must evaluate the source’s nature, origin and purpose, and then compare it with other sources.
关于可靠性的问题通常表现为:”作为……的证据,史料B有多可靠?”你必须评估史料的性质、来源和目的,然后与其他史料比较。
Start by stating who wrote it, when, and why. A private diary may be more candid but less accurate; an official government report may be authoritative but biased.
首先说明是谁写的、何时写的以及为什么写。私人日记可能更坦率但准确性较低;官方政府报告可能具有权威性但存在偏见。
To cross-reference, look for two or more sources that agree. If they are independent and agree on key details, reliability is strengthened. If they conflict, explain how and why.
为了交叉印证,寻找两个或多个相互一致的史料。如果它们彼此独立且在关键细节上一致,可靠性就加强。如果它们冲突,请解释如何冲突以及为何冲突。
Use phrases such as ‘Source A is supported by Source B because…’ or ‘Source C casts doubt on Source D because…’. This proves active evaluation.
使用这样的短语:”史料A得到史料B的支持,因为……”或”史料C对史料D提出了质疑,因为……”。这证明你进行了主动评估。
7. Essay Writing: Structure and Argument | 论文写作:结构与论证
The extended essay question in Paper 1 asks you to agree, disagree or evaluate, for example: ‘How far do you agree that…?’ This is worth the most marks on the paper, so plan carefully.
