The government is a major participant in the circular flow of income. It acts as an employer by hiring civil servants, teachers, doctors and police officers, making a direct contribution to national employment figures. It also acts as a consumer by purchasing equipment, supplies and services from private firms, which supports private-sector output and job creation.
