Every year, hundreds of thousands of families in the UK and overseas make one of the most consequential decisions of family life: which school their child will attend. Inspection reports published by Ofsted and its counterparts across the UK describe far more than exam results – they describe the quality of the curriculum itself. This guide explains what inspectors actually look for, how they test a school’s curriculum claims, and how parents can read those reports critically and use them well.

1. Why Inspection Reports Matter to Parents | 为什么督察报告值得家长重视

Inspection is the only routine, independent and publicly published judgement of a whole school in the UK. It is produced by inspectors with no financial relationship to the school, and the full report is published online for anyone to read.

Since 2019 the inspection framework has placed the curriculum at its centre. Inspectors ask what leaders intend pupils to learn, how that intent is turned into teaching, and what pupils have genuinely learned. Exam results are evidence, but they are no longer the whole story.
