📚 Why School Information for England, Scotland and Wales Lives on Different Websites |

If you want to check a school in England, you start with the Department for Education’s Get Information about Schools register and with Ofsted reports. If you try to use the same two sources for a school in Scotland or Wales, you will hit a wall. Ofsted does not inspect schools in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, and the DfE does not hold the official register for those nations. Education in the United Kingdom is devolved, so each nation has its own inspectorate, its own qualifications regulator, its own statistics service and therefore its own website for school information.

1. The Short Answer: Four Nations, Four Systems |

The United Kingdom contains four education systems: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each one has a separate legal basis, a separate curriculum, a separate inspection regime and a separate set of qualifications. Because official information is published by the body that owns the remit, school data naturally sits on different websites in each nation.
