Quantity demanded is a specific point on that curve at a given price. When a non-price determinant such as income or tastes changes, the whole demand curve shifts — this is a change in demand. A movement along the demand curve, however, is caused solely by a change in the good’s own price and represents a change in quantity demanded.

Another trap is forgetting that PED is always negative (except for Giffen goods in theory). Treating PED as positive leads to nonsensical policy recommendations, such as raising prices to increase revenue when demand is elastic.
