📚 GCSE WJEC Physics: Calculation Practice Drills | GCSE WJEC

Strong calculation skills are essential for GCSE WJEC Physics. This workbook-style guide targets the most common numeric topics: motion, forces, energy, electricity, waves and matter. Each section breaks down a key formula, provides a worked example and sets a practice problem. Work through all 12 drills to master the maths behind the physics.

1. Speed, Distance and Time | 速度、距离和时间

The average speed of an object is the distance travelled divided by the time taken. The formula is:

v = s / t

where v is speed (m/s), s is distance (m), t is time (s). Always convert units to match.

Example: A runner completes 400 m in 50 s. Calculate the average speed.

Answer: v = s / t = 400 / 50 = 8 m/s.

解答:v = s / t = 400 / 50 = 8 m/s。

Practice: A cyclist travels 9 km in 30 minutes. Find the speed in m/s. (Convert first!)

2. Acceleration | 加速度

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. The equation linking initial velocity (u), final velocity (v), time (t) and acceleration (a) is:

a = (v – u) / t

where a is in m/s² (metres per second squared).

Example: A car accelerates from 5 m/s to 25 m/s in 4 s. Find the acceleration.

Answer: a = (25 – 5) / 4 = 20 / 4 = 5 m
