All living things share seven life processes, often remembered by the acronym MRS GREN: Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition. Plant cells also possess a rigid cell wall, a large permanent vacuole and chloroplasts for photosynthesis.

The small intestine is lined with villi that increase surface area for absorption. Digested products such as glucose, amino acids, fatty acids and glycerol pass into the bloodstream.
