Beyond unpacking your suitcases, there is a series of essential administrative tasks you need to complete in your first weeks. Handling these promptly will ensure you stay compliant with visa regulations and settle smoothly into student life.

1. Collect Your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) | 领取生物信息居留卡

Your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is your physical evidence of the right to study, work (subject to conditions), and access public services in the UK. You must collect it within 10 days of arriving in the UK, or before the vignette sticker in your passport expires – whichever is later.

生物信息居留卡（BRP）是你在英国学习、工作（需符合条件）和使用公共服务的实物身份证明。你必须在抵达英国后10天内，或护照上签证贴纸过期前（以较晚者为准）领取。

Check your visa decision letter for the collection location. Typically, you will pick up the BRP from a named Post Office branch. If your university had an Alternative Collection Location (ACL) code and you used it in your application, the BRP may be ready for you on campus. Bring your passport and the decision letter when you go to collect.

2. Create a UKVI Account and Access Your eVisa | 创建英国签证与移民账户获取电子签证

Since late 2024, the UK Home Office has been issuing eVisas to replace physical immigration documents. After collecting your BRP, you must set up a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account and link your passport to access your digital status.

3. Register with a Local GP (Doctor) | 注册社区全科医生

As an international student on a course lasting six months or longer, you have paid the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and are entitled to free National Health Service (NHS) care. Registering with a General Practitioner (GP) near your accommodation is a top priority.
