1. Welcome to French | 欢迎学习法语
French is the official language in 29 countries across five continents. From the bustling streets of Paris to the sunny shores of Senegal, over 300 million people speak French every day. As a beginner, you will quickly discover that many English words come from French, so you already know more than you think! Words like ‘restaurant’, ‘menu’, ‘ballet’ and ‘café’ are used in English with the same meaning.
法语是五大洲29个国家的官方语言。从巴黎繁华的街道到塞内加尔阳光明媚的海岸,每天有超过3亿人使用法语。作为初学者,你很快就会发现许多英语单词其实来自法语,所以你懂的其实比想象中要多!像 ‘restaurant’、’menu’、’ballet’ 和 ‘café’ 这些词在英语中的用法和法语完全一样。
This summer, aim to learn just a few new words each day. Little and often is the key to language success. Practise saying them aloud, even if you feel silly at first – your tongue needs to get used to the new sounds. You can also label objects around your house in French to build vocabulary without much effort.
这个暑假,试着每天只学几个新单词。少量多次是语言学习成功的关键。大声练习说出来,哪怕一开始觉得滑稽——你的舌头需要适应这些新的发音。你还可以在家里的物品上贴法语标签,轻松地积累词汇。
2. Greetings and Introductions | 问候与介绍
In French, how you greet someone depends on the time of day and how well you know them. The most common greeting is ‘Bonjour’ (Hello / Good day) used until the evening. In casual situations, especially among young people, you can say ‘Salut’ (Hi). After about 6 p.m., switch to ‘Bonsoir’ (Good evening). When leaving, you can say ‘Au revoir’ (Goodbye) or ‘Bonne nuit’ (Good night) before going to bed.
在法语里,怎么打招呼要看时间以及你和对方有多熟。最常见的问候语是 ‘Bonjour’(你好/你早),一般用到傍晚。在比较随意的场合,特别是年轻人之间,可以说 ‘Salut’(嗨)。大约晚上六点以后,要换成 ‘Bonsoir’(晚上好)。告别时说 ‘Au revoir’(再见),睡觉前可以说 ‘Bonne nuit’(晚安)。
To introduce yourself, the key phrase is ‘Je m’appelle …’ (My name is …). To ask someone their name, say ‘Comment tu t’appelles?’ (What is your name?). If you want to be more polite, you can use ‘Comment vous appelez-vous?’ but in Year 7, the informal ‘tu’ form is most common. A typical first meeting dialogue might be: ‘Bonjour, je m’appelle Max. Et toi?’ – ‘Salut, je m’appelle Lola.’
介绍自己时,关键句是 ‘Je m’appelle …’(我叫……)。问别人的名字用 ‘Comment tu t’appelles?’(你叫什么名字?)。如果想更礼貌一点,可以用 ‘Comment vous appelez-vous?’,不过在 Year 7,最常用的还是非正式的 ‘tu’ 形式。初次见面的典型对话可以是:’Bonjour, je m’appelle Max. Et toi?’ – ‘Salut, je m’appelle Lola.’
After saying your names, you usually ask how the other person is. ‘Ça va?’ (How are you?) is the easiest way, and you can reply ‘Ça va bien, merci’ (I’m fine, thanks) or simply ‘Ça va’. To return the question, add ‘Et toi?’ (And you?). Remember that French people often use a light handshake or ‘la bise’ (kiss on the cheek) when greeting friends, but in school, a simple ‘Bonjour’ is enough.
互报姓名之后,通常会问对方最近怎样。’Ça va?’(你好吗?)是最简单的问法,可以回答 ‘Ça va bien, merci’(我很好,谢谢),或者简单地说 ‘Ça va’。想问回去的话,加一句 ‘Et toi?’(你呢?)。要记住法国人朋友见面常常轻轻握手或行贴面礼,不过在学校里,简单一句 ‘Bonjour’ 就够了。
3. Numbers and Age | 数字与年龄
Numbers in French follow some regular patterns but also include a few quirky surprises. The table below shows numbers 1–10, which you should memorise first, as they appear in phone numbers, ages and dates.
| English | French |
|---|---|
| one | un |
| two | deux |
| three | trois |
| four | quatre |
| five | cinq |
| six | six |
| seven | sept |
| eight | huit |
| nine | neuf |
| ten | dix |
After learning 1–10, challenge yourself to count up to 20. The teens have their own forms: 11 ‘onze’, 12 ‘douze’, 13 ‘treize’, 14 ‘quatorze’, 15 ‘quinze’, 16 ‘seize’. Then 17 is ‘dix-sept’, 18 ‘dix-huit’, 19 ‘dix-neuf’. Twenty is ‘vingt’. Notice how ‘dix-sept’ literally means ‘ten-seven’. It is a good idea to learn these numbers by heart so you can quickly tell someone your age.
学完1–10后,可以挑战数到20。十几的数字有自己的形式:11 ‘onze’、12 ‘douze’、13 ‘treize’、14 ‘quatorze’、15 ‘quinze’、16 ‘seize’。接下来17是 ‘dix-sept’,18 ‘dix-huit’,19 ‘dix-neuf’。20是 ‘vingt’。注意 ‘dix-sept’ 字面意思是 ‘十-七’。最好把这些数字都背熟,这样你就能很快告诉别人你的年龄了。
To say how old you are, the structure is ‘J’ai … ans’ – literally ‘I have … years’. For example, ‘J’ai onze ans’ (I am eleven). To ask someone’s age, say ‘Quel âge as-tu?’ (How old are you?). Be careful: ‘ans’ is always plural, even after ‘un’, but you still say ‘J’ai un an’ without an ‘s’ for ‘one year old’. Practise swapping in different numbers until it feels natural.
说自己的年龄,结构是 ‘J’ai … ans’ ——字面意思是 ‘我有……岁’。比如,’J’ai onze ans’(我十一岁)。问对方的年龄用 ‘Quel âge as-tu?’(你几岁了?)。这里要注意:’ans’ 一般都用复数,哪怕跟在 ‘un’ 后头,但只有 ‘一岁’ 要说 ‘J’ai un an’,没有 s。 可以尝试换上不同的数字来练习,直到说起来很自然。
4. Colours and Descriptions | 颜色与描述
Colours are essential for describing everyday objects. In French, most colour words come after the noun they describe, unlike in English. Here are the most common colours and their masculine singular forms:
| English | French |
|---|---|
| red | rouge |
| blue | bleu |
| green | vert |
| yellow | jaune |
| black | noir |
| white | blanc |
| purple | violet |
| pink | rose |
Notice that some colours change their spelling depending on the gender and number of the noun. For example, a blue pen is ‘un stylo bleu’ (stylo is masculine), but a blue eraser is ‘une gomme bleue’ (gomme is feminine). The word ‘blanc’ becomes ‘blanche’ in the feminine form. As a beginner, it is enough to recognise these patterns, but you will gradually learn to use them correctly.
注意有些颜色会随着名词的性和数改变拼写。比如,一支蓝色的笔是 ‘un stylo bleu’(stylo 是阳性),但一块蓝色的橡皮是 ‘une gomme bleue’(gomme 是阴性)。’blanc’ 变成阴性时写 ‘blanche’。作为初学者,能认出这些规律就够了,慢慢地你会学会正确运用它们。
A fun way to practise is to go around your room and say the colour of each object in French: ‘un lit blanc’, ‘des rideaux bleus’, ‘une chaise noire’. You can also use ‘C’est de quelle couleur?’ (What colour is it?) to ask questions. Try to learn the phrase ‘Ma couleur préférée est le bleu’ (My favourite colour is blue) so you can talk about your preferences.
一个有趣的练习方法是环顾自己的房间,用法语说出每样物品的颜色:’un lit blanc’、’des rideaux bleus’、’une chaise noire’。你还可以用 ‘C’est de quelle couleur?’(这是什么颜色?)来提问。试着学会 ‘Ma couleur préférée est le bleu’(我最喜欢的颜色是蓝色),这样就能说说自己的喜好了。
5. Classroom Objects | 教室物品
In Year 7 French, you will often need to talk about what is in your school bag or on your desk. Learning the names of classroom items will help you follow instructions. Here are some essential words with their articles:
在 Year 7 的课堂上,你会经常需要说说书包里或桌上有什么。学会教室物品的名称能帮助你听懂老师的指令。下面是一些重要词汇,带上了冠词:
- un cahier – exercise book
- un stylo – pen
- un crayon – pencil
- une gomme – eraser
- une règle – ruler
- un sac à dos – backpack
- des ciseaux – scissors
- un livre – book
- une trousse – pencil case
Notice that each noun has either ‘un’ (masculine) or ‘une’ (feminine) in front of it. ‘Des’ is used for plural items. When you want to say ‘a red pen’, you place the colour after the noun: ‘un stylo rouge’. The same rule applies to other descriptions, such as ‘une grande trousse’ (a big pencil case).
仔细观察,每个名词前面要么有 ‘un’(阳性),要么有 ‘une’(阴性)。复数物品前面用 ‘des’。要说 ‘一支红色的笔’,就把颜色放在名词后面:’un stylo rouge’。这个规则也适用于其他描述,比如 ‘une grande trousse’(一个大文具盒)。
A common classroom question is ‘Qu’est-ce que c’est?’ (What is it/that?). You can answer by pointing and saying ‘C’est un cahier’ or ‘Ce sont des ciseaux’. During the summer, practise by asking yourself this question while unpacking your school supplies. The more you repeat these words, the faster they will stick in your memory.
课堂上一个常见的问题是 ‘Qu’est-ce que c’est?’(这是什么/那是什么?)。你可以指着东西回答 ‘C’est un cahier’ 或者 ‘Ce sont des ciseaux’。暑期里,在整理学习用品时多问问自己这个问题。重复得越多,这些词记得越牢。
6. Family Members | 家庭成员
Talking about your family is one of the first personal topics you will cover. The key words for family members are combined with ‘mon’, ‘ma’ or ‘mes’ to mean ‘my’. The choice depends on the gender and number of the noun.
| English | French with ‘my’ | Note |
|---|---|---|
| father | mon père | masculine |
| mother | ma mère | feminine |
| brother | mon frère | masculine |
| sister | ma sœur | feminine |
| parents | mes parents | plural |
| grandfather | mon grand-père | masculine |
| grandmother | ma grand-mère | feminine |
If a feminine noun starts with a vowel or silent ‘h’, use ‘mon’ instead of ‘ma’ to make pronunciation smoother. For example, we say ‘mon amie’ (my female friend) not ‘ma amie’. In Year 7, the most important thing is to be able to construct simple sentences such as ‘Dans ma famille, il y a mon père, ma mère et mon frère’ (In my family, there is my dad, my mum and my brother).
如果阴性名词以元音或不发音的 h 开头,为了发音顺畅,用 ‘mon’ 代替 ‘ma’。比如,我们说 ‘mon amie’(我的女性朋友),而不是 ‘ma amie’。在 Year 7,最重要的是能造出简单的句子,比如 ‘Dans ma famille, il y a mon père, ma mère et mon frère’(我家有爸爸、妈妈和哥哥)。
7. Pets and Animals | 宠物与动物
Pets are a great topic for early conversations. Use the verb ‘avoir’ (to have) to say what animals you own. Common pet words include ‘un chien’ (dog), ‘un chat’ (cat), ‘un poisson’ (fish), ‘un oiseau’ (bird), ‘un lapin’ (rabbit) and ‘un hamster’ (hamster). For most pets, the article is ‘un’ because they are masculine, but some animals have different names for females, which you will learn later.
宠物是初学对话的好话题。用动词 ‘avoir’(有)来表达你养了什么动物。常见的宠物词有 ‘un chien’(狗)、’un chat’(猫)、’un poisson’(鱼)、’un oiseau’(鸟)、’un lapin’(兔子)和 ‘un hamster’(仓鼠)。大多数宠物前面用 ‘un’,因为它们是阳性名词,但有些动物雌性另有名称,这一点以后会学到。
To ask someone if they have a pet, say ‘Tu as un animal?’ (Do you have a pet?). A possible answer is ‘Oui, j’ai un chat et deux poissons’ (Yes, I have a cat and two fish) or ‘Non, je n’ai pas d’animal’ (No, I don’t have a pet). Notice that ‘de’ changes to ‘d’’ before a vowel and that in negative sentences, ‘un/une/des’ become ‘de’ or ‘d’’. So ‘Je n’ai pas de chien’ is correct.
问别人有没有养宠物,可以说 ‘Tu as un animal?’(你养宠物吗?)。回答可以是 ‘Oui, j’ai un chat et deux poissons’(有,我养了一只猫和两条鱼),也可以是 ‘Non, je n’ai pas d’animal’(没有,我不养宠物)。注意否定句中 ‘un/une/des’ 会变成 ‘de’ 或 ‘d’’,所以 ‘Je n’ai pas de chien’(我没有狗)才是对的。
Even if you don’t have a real pet, you can invent one or talk about a friend’s animal. Describe its colour and size: ‘Mon chien est grand et marron’ (My dog is big and brown). You are already combining vocabulary from earlier sections – that is exactly how you build longer, more interesting sentences.
就算你没有真的宠物,也可以编一个或者谈谈朋友的动物。描述它的颜色和大小:’Mon chien est grand et marron’(我的狗又大又是棕色的)。你在把前面学过的词汇组合起来了——这正是把句子变长、变有趣的方法。
8. Likes and Dislikes | 喜欢与不喜欢
Expressing opinions is a big part of Year 7 French. The most useful verbs are ‘aimer’ (to like/love), ‘adorer’ (to love), ‘ne pas aimer’ (to not like) and ‘détester’ (to hate). When you talk about liking a thing, you use the definite article ‘le’, ‘la’, ‘l’’ or ‘les’ with the noun. For instance, ‘J’aime le chocolat’ (I like chocolate), ‘J’aime la pizza’, ‘J’adore les jeux vidéo’. The meaning is ‘I like chocolate in general’.
To say what activities you like, just add an infinitive verb after ‘aimer’: ‘J’aime jouer au foot’ (I like playing football), ‘J’aime écouter de la musique’ (I like listening to music), ‘Je n’aime pas faire les devoirs’ (I don’t like doing homework). The phrase ‘Je déteste ranger ma chambre’ (I hate tidying my room) is also very useful! Remember that ‘ne … pas’ surrounds the verb: ‘Je n’aime pas’ becomes ‘Je n’aime pas’.
要表达喜欢做什么活动,就在 ‘aimer’ 后面直接加动词不定式:’J’aime jou
