📚 Year 7 CIE Politics: Exam Techniques and Marking Criteria | Year 7 CIE 政治:答题技巧与评分标准

In Year 7 CIE Politics, doing well in exams is not just about remembering facts. You need to show that you can use your knowledge, explain ideas clearly, and present balanced arguments. This guide will take you through the key exam techniques and the marking criteria so that you know exactly what examiners are looking for. By the end, you will feel confident in tackling any question that comes your way.

在 Year 7 CIE 政治考试中,取得好成绩不仅靠记住事实。你需要展示你能运用知识、清晰地解释观点并提出平衡的论点。这本指南将带你了解关键的答题技巧和评分标准,让你清楚考官究竟看重什么。读完以后,你会对任何考题都充满信心。

1. Understanding Command Words | 理解指令词

Every question in a CIE Politics exam includes a command word, such as “describe”, “explain”, “compare” or “evaluate”. These words tell you exactly what the examiner wants you to do. Ignoring the command word is one of the fastest ways to lose marks.

CIE 政治考试的每道题都包含一个指令词,例如 “describe”、”explain”、”compare” 或 “evaluate”。这些词明确告诉你考官的要求。忽略指令词是丢分的最快途径之一。

If a question says “describe”, you should give a detailed account of features, roles or processes. For example, you might be asked to describe the main functions of parliament. Do not give explanations or opinions here — just present the facts in a clear order.

如果题目说 “describe”(描述),你应该详细说明特征、角色或过程。例如,你可能需要描述议会的主要职能。此时不要给出解释或观点——只需清晰地按顺序罗列事实。

When the command word is “explain”, you must go further and give reasons. Why does something happen? How does one factor lead to another? Use linking words such as “because”, “therefore” and “this means that” to build your explanation.

当指令词是 “explain”(解释)时,你必须更进一步并说明原因。为什么会发生某事?一个因素如何导致另一个因素?使用 “because”、”therefore” 和 “this means that” 等连接词来构建你的解释。

For “compare”, you need to identify similarities and differences between two or more political systems, ideas or events. Use phrases like “similarly”, “in contrast” and “on the other hand” to show both sides clearly.

对于 “compare”(比较),你需要找出两个或多个政治制度、观点或事件之间的相似点和不同点。使用 “similarly”、”in contrast” 和 “on the other hand” 等短语来清晰地展示两面。

The highest-level command word is “evaluate”. Here you are expected to weigh up strengths and weaknesses, discuss different viewpoints and reach a reasoned conclusion. You must show that you have thought critically about the question.

最高级别的指令词是 “evaluate”(评价)。你需要权衡优缺点,讨论不同的观点,并得出有理有据的结论。你必须展现出对问题进行了批判性思考。

2. Time Management in Exams | 考试时间管理

Good time management can make a huge difference to your final mark. Before you start writing, read through the whole paper and note how many marks each question is worth. Allocate your time based on these marks — a 10-mark question deserves roughly twice as much time as a 5-mark question.

良好的时间管理能大大提升你的最终分数。动笔之前,通读整份试卷并记下每道题的分值。根据分值分配时间——一道10分的题大约应花两倍于5分题的时间。

Write down a simple time plan at the top of your paper. For example, if you have 50 minutes for a 25-mark paper, you might allow 2 minutes per mark. Leave at least 5 minutes at the end to check your answers and correct any mistakes.

在试卷顶部写一个简单的时间计划。例如,如果一份25分的试卷你有50分钟,你可以按每分2分钟来安排。最后至少留5分钟检查答案并改正错误。

Stick to your plan. If you find yourself spending too long on one question, move on and come back later if you have time. A blank page earns zero marks, so it is always better to write something than to leave a question unanswered.

严格遵守你的计划。如果你在一道题上花的时间太多,就先往下做,有时间再回头补。空白卷面得零分,所以写点什么总比空着不答要好。

3. Structuring Your Answers: The PEEL Method | 组织答案:PEEL 方法

A well-structured answer is easier to read and earns higher marks. One effective technique is the PEEL method, which stands for Point, Evidence, Explanation and Link. Use PEEL for longer answers, especially those worth 6 marks or more.

结构清晰的答案更容易阅读,也能拿到更高分数。一个有效的技巧是 PEEL 方法,它代表 Point(要点)、Evidence(证据)、Explanation(解释)和 Link(联系)。对较长答案,尤其是6分以上的题,要使用 PEEL。

Start with your Point — a clear statement that directly answers the question. Then provide Evidence, such as a real-life example, a fact or a case study. After that, give your Explanation: why the evidence supports your point and how the political process works.

从 Point 开始——一个直接回答问题的清晰陈述。然后提供 Evidence,比如一个真实的例子、一个事实或一个案例研究。接着给出 Explanation:解释为什么这个证据支持你的观点,以及政治过程如何运作。

Finally, Link back to the question or link to your next paragraph. This shows the examiner that you are keeping your answer relevant throughout. Using PEEL helps you avoid drifting off-topic and keeps your argument tight.

最后,Link 回题目本身或衔接到下一段。这向考官表明你的答案始终扣题。使用 PEEL 可以帮你避免跑题,并让你的论证紧凑有力。

4. Using Examples and Evidence | 使用例子和论据

In Politics, every claim you make should be backed up by evidence. This could be a reference to a country’s constitution, a recent election result, a famous political leader or a specific law. The use of concrete examples shows the examiner that your knowledge goes beyond the textbook.

在政治中,你提出的每一项主张都应该有证据支持。这可以是对某国宪法的引述、近期的选举结果、一位著名的政治领袖或一项具体的法律。使用具体的例子向考官表明你的知识不局限于课本。

For instance, if you are writing about separation of powers, you could mention how the United Kingdom has a legislature (Parliament), an executive (Prime Minister and Cabinet) and a judiciary (courts). This instantly strengthens your answer.

例如,如果你在写权力分立,你可以提到联合王国如何设有立法机构(议会)、行政机构(首相与内阁)和司法机构(法院)。这瞬间便增强了你的答案。

Keep a bank of examples in your revision notes. For Year 7, focus on a few countries or political systems you have studied, such as the UK, the USA, or another case study from your course. Use these repeatedly in different contexts so you become confident.

在复习笔记中储备一个例子库。对于 Year 7,集中在你学过的几个国家或政治制度上,比如英国、美国或课程中的其他案例研究。在不同的语境中反复使用它们,这样你就会越来越自信。

5. Explaining ‘Why’ and ‘How’ | 解释”为什么”和”如何”

Many students make the mistake of only describing a political feature without explaining the reasons behind it. The examiner wants to see that you understand causes, effects and processes. Whenever you give a piece of information, ask yourself “why?” or “how?” and add that to your answer.

许多学生只描述一个政治特征,却不解释其背后的原因。考官希望看到你理解起因、影响和过程。每当你给出一个信息时,自问一句 “为什么?” 或 “如何?”,并把它加到答案里。

For example, instead of just stating “The UK has a bicameral Parliament”, you should explain why: “The UK has a bicameral Parliament because the House of Commons represents the people, while the House of Lords provides expertise and checks legislation more carefully.”

例如,不要只陈述 “英国有一个两院制议会”,而应该解释为什么:”英国之所以有两院制议会,是因为下议院代表人民,而上议院提供专业知识并更仔细地审查立法。”

Use causal language such as “this leads to”, “as a result”, “one effect is” and “this is important because”. This will turn a flat answer into one that shows genuine political understanding.

使用因果性语言,例如 “this leads to”、”as a result”、”one effect is” 和 “this is important because”。这能把一个平淡的答案转变为展现真实政治理解的回答。

6. Making Comparisons and Contrasts | 进行比较和对比

Comparison questions are common in CIE Politics. You may need to compare two types of government, two electoral systems, or the rights of citizens in different countries. A strong answer always identifies both similarities and differences, not just one side.

比较题在 CIE 政治中很常见。你可能需要比较两种政府类型、两种选举制度,或不同国家公民的权利。一份强有力的答案总会找出相似点和不同点,而不是只看一面。

Use a comparison table in your plan if it helps. However, in your written answer, use comparison phrases to structure your sentences. For similarities, try “Similarly, both countries hold regular elections”. For differences, say “In contrast, Country A has a written constitution, whereas Country B relies on conventions”.

如果对你有帮助,可以在草稿中画一张比较表。但是,在书面答案中,要用比较性短语来组织句子。对于相似点,可以写 “Similarly, both countries hold regular elections”;对于不同点,可以说 “In contrast, Country A has a written constitution, whereas Country B relies on conventions”。

Always tie your comparison back to the question. If asked to compare the effectiveness of two systems, end by stating which one is more effective and why, after presenting both sides. This shows evaluation.

始终将对比扣回原题。如果被要求比较两种制度的有效性,在呈现两面之后,最后要说明哪一种更有效并给出理由。这便展示了评价能力。

7. Evaluating Arguments | 评价论点

Evaluation is a skill that separates top-grade answers from average ones. When a question asks you to “evaluate” or “assess”, you must not only describe different views but also make a judgement about which view is stronger and why.

评价这项技能让高分答案与平庸答案拉开距离。当一道题要求你 “evaluate” 或 “assess” 时,你不仅要描述不同观点,还要判断哪种观点更有力并说明原因。

Imagine the question is: “Evaluate the view that the prime minister has too much power.” A good answer will first present arguments for the prime minister having too much power, then arguments against it, and finally reach a balanced conclusion.

假设问题是:”Evaluate the view that the prime minister has too much power.” 一份好答案会首先提出首相权力过大的论点,然后提出反对这一说法的论点,最后得出一个平衡的结论。

Your conclusion should be clear but not one-sided unless the evidence is overwhelmingly strong. Phrases like “On balance, the most convincing argument is… because…” show high-level thinking. Examiners love to see this.

你的结论应当清晰,但不至于一边倒,除非证据确凿。像 “On balance, the most convincing argument is… because…” 这样的语句展现出高阶思维。考官非常欣赏这一点。

8. Common Mistakes to Avoid | 避免常见错误

Avoiding common pitfalls is just as important as knowing the right techniques. One frequent mistake is not reading the question carefully. Students sometimes write everything they know about a topic instead of answering the specific question set. Always underline the key words.

避免常见陷阱和掌握正确技巧同样重要。一个常见错误是没有仔细读题。学生有时会把自己知道的关于某个话题的所有内容都写出来,而不是回答所提的具体问题。务必划出关键词。

Another mistake is writing very short, undeveloped answers. Even a 2-mark question often expects at least two developed sentences with a clear link to the question. For higher-mark questions, undeveloped answers will lose many marks for lack of explanation and evidence.

另一个错误是写非常简短、未经展开的答案。即使是2分题,也常常期望至少有两个展开的句子并与题目有明确的联系。对于更高分值的题,未展开的答案会因缺少解释和证据而丢掉大量分数。

Also, do not use vague terms like “stuff”, “things” or “they do bad stuff”. Always use precise political vocabulary, such as “legislation”, “accountability”, “representation” or “mandate”. This impresses examiners and shows you have mastered the subject language.

此外,不要使用 “stuff”、”things” 或 “they do bad stuff” 这类模糊词语。始终使用精准的政治词汇,比如 “legislation”(立法)、”accountability”(问责)、”representation”(代表)或 “mandate”(授权)。这能打动考官,并显示你掌握了学科用语。

Finally, never leave an answer blank. Even if you are unsure, write down key words, definitions or a simple outline related to the question. The examiner can only award marks for what is on the page.

最后,永远不要空着答案。即使你不确定,也要写下与题目相关的关键词、定义或简单提纲。考官只能根据卷面上的内容给分。

9. Understanding the Mark Scheme Bands | 理解评分档次

CIE Politics mark schemes typically use levels or bands to assess answers. Understanding these bands helps you target the highest level. Most questions are marked in three or four bands, each describing a particular standard of knowledge, understanding, analysis and evaluation.

CIE 政治评分方案通常使用层级或档次来评定答案。理解这些档次有助于你瞄准最高层级。多数题目分三到四个档次评分,每个档次都描述了特定的知识、理解、分析与评价标准。

Band Description Marks (example)
Level 1 Basic knowledge with limited understanding. Answers are descriptive and lack explanation or evidence. 1-3
Level 2 Clear knowledge and some understanding. Explanations are given but may be general or not fully developed. 4-6
Level 3 Good understanding, relevant examples and analysis. Comparisons and evaluations are attempted but may be limited. 7-9
Level 4 Excellent analysis and evaluation, with sustained and well-supported argument. The answer is fully relevant and precisely expressed. 10-12

To reach Level 4, you must ensure that your answer does not just describe but analyses and evaluates. Include balanced views and a clear conclusion. Always state why something is significant and what the overall impact is.

要拿到第4档,你必须确保答案不仅描述,还要分析和评价。纳入平衡的观点和清晰的结论。始终说明某事物为何重要,以及总体影响是什么。

When you practise past papers, use the mark scheme to self-assess. See which band your answer falls into and what you need to add to move up. This makes your revision much more effective.

当你练习真题时,用评分方案进行自我评估。看看你的答案落在哪个档次,以及你需要补充什么才能提升。这会让你的复习更加有效。

10. Practice Past Papers and Self-Assessment | 练习真题与自我评估

Nothing prepares you better for an exam than actually doing past papers. Set yourself a timer and complete questions under real exam conditions. Then, compare your answers with the official mark scheme or ask your teacher for feedback. This will highlight your strengths and areas for improvement.

为考试做准备,什么也比不上实际做真题。给自己设定计时器,在真实考试条件下完成题目。然后,将你的答案与官方评分方案作比较,或者向老师寻求反馈。这将凸显你的长处和需要改进的地方。

Create a feedback log where you write down the common errors you make and the examiner’s comments. Review this log before your next practice session so that you do not repeat the same mistakes.

建立一个反馈日志,记录你常犯的错误和考官的评语。在下一次练习之前翻阅这个日志,这样就不会重复同样的错误。

Remember, effective revision is active, not passive. Simply reading your notes is not enough. Write out answers, draw mind maps, teach the topic to someone else, and keep testing yourself. The more you practise, the more natural exam techniques will become.

请记住,有效的复习是主动的,而非被动的。仅仅阅读笔记是不够的。写出答案,画思维导图,把题目讲给别人听,并不断地自我测试。练习得越多,答题技巧就会变得越自然。
