Every scientific investigation starts with a clear question and a hypothesis. A hypothesis is a testable statement predicting the relationship between variables.

The independent variable is the factor you deliberately change. The dependent variable is what you measure or observe. Control variables are all the other factors that must be kept constant to ensure a fair test.
