📚 Year 11 AQA French: Speaking & Listening Exam Preparation | Year 11 AQA 法语:口语与听力备考专项

Preparing for the AQA GCSE French speaking and listening exams requires a blend of smart strategies, consistent practice, and a clear understanding of what examiners expect. This guide breaks down each component, giving you actionable advice for the role-play, photo card, general conversation, and the listening paper. Whether you are aiming for a grade 5 or pushing for a 9, these techniques will build your confidence and sharpen your skills.

备战 AQA 普通中等教育证书(GCSE)法语口语与听力考试,需要巧妙的策略、持续不断的练习,以及对考官期望的清晰认识。本指南将逐一拆解各个部分,为你的角色扮演、图片卡片、一般会话以及听力试卷提供可操作的建议。无论你的目标是第五等级还是冲刺第九等级,这些技巧都将增强你的信心,提升你的能力。

1. Understanding the Speaking Exam Structure | 了解口语考试的结构

The AQA French speaking exam is divided into three distinct tasks: a role-play, a photo card discussion, and a general conversation. The role-play lasts about 2 minutes and tests your ability to handle realistic, everyday situations. The photo card requires you to describe a picture and answer related questions for around 3 minutes at Foundation Tier, and 5 minutes at Higher Tier. The general conversation is the longest section, lasting 3–5 minutes at Foundation and 5–7 minutes at Higher, where you discuss two themes from the specification. You have 12 minutes of supervised preparation time just before the exam, during which you can make notes on a stimulus card but must not write full scripts.

2. Role-Play: Mastering the Unpredictable | 角色扮演:掌控不可预测性

The role-play card will give you a scenario, such as buying a train ticket or ordering food in a café, with five bullet points in English indicating what you need to say or ask. One bullet will always contain an unprepared question from the examiner, marked with a ‘?’ or ‘!’ symbol. To succeed, you must listen carefully and respond spontaneously. Practice forming questions using inversion or ‘est-ce que’ structures, as you will often need to ask for prices, times, or availability. Always use the polite ‘vous’ form unless the context clearly asks for ‘tu’. Key phrases like ‘Je voudrais…’ (I would like…), ‘C’est combien ?’ (How much is it?), and ‘À quelle heure… ?’ (At what time…?) will serve you well.

In your 12-minute preparation time, identify the bullet that will be the surprise question and think of possible directions it could take. Do not spend too long writing full sentences; instead, jot down keywords for each bullet. For the question you must ask, practise the word order mentally. Remember that if you do not understand the examiner’s surprise question, you can politely ask ‘Pouvez-vous répéter, s’il vous plaît ?’ (Could you repeat, please?) – this is acceptable and shows you are trying to communicate.

在十二分钟的准备时间里,找出那个将会是惊喜问题的要点,并设想它可能走的方向。不要把时间花在写完整的句子上;相反,为每个要点记下关键词。对于你必须提出的问题,在脑中练习一下语序。记住,如果你没听懂考官提出的惊喜问题,你可以礼貌地问 ‘Pouvez-vous répéter, s’il vous plaît ?’(请您再说一遍好吗?)——这是可以接受的,并且表明你正在努力沟通。

3. Photo Card: Describing and Developing Ideas | 图片卡片:描述与展开观点

During the photo card task, you will see a colour image linked to one of the themes you have studied, such as holidays, school, or the environment. The first bullet always asks ‘Qu’est-ce qu’il y a sur la photo ?’ (What is in the photo?), so you need to describe what you can see. Use the present continuous-like structure ‘il y a… qui…’, for example, ‘Il y a une femme qui lit un livre.’ (There is a woman who is reading a book.) Avoid simply listing nouns; instead, add adjectives, prepositions, and weather or mood details. You will then face two further questions (Foundation) or three (Higher) printed on the card, and you may also have to answer an unpredictable extension question.

在图片卡片任务中,你会看到一张与所学主题相关的彩色图片,主题可能是假期、学校或环境等。第一个要点总是问 ‘Qu’est-ce qu’il y a sur la photo ?’(照片里有什么?),因此你需要描述所见之物。使用类似现在进行时的 ‘il y a… qui…’ 结构,例如 ‘Il y a une femme qui lit un livre.’(有一位正在读书的女士)。避免只是罗列名词;而是添加形容词、介词以及天气或情绪细节。然后你将面对卡片上印出的另外两个(基础等级)或三个(高级等级)问题,而且你还可能必须回答一个没法事先准备的延伸问题。

Preparation is key: in the 12-minute slot, look at the picture and quickly list what you see on a higher level – main people, objects, actions, colours, and background. Then read the prepared questions and brainstorm relevant opinions and justifications. For example, if a question asks ‘Est-ce que tu aimes… ?’, always answer with an opinion, such as ‘J’adore… parce que c’est relaxant.’ (I love… because it’s relaxing.) At Higher Tier, you must use a variety of tenses, so if talking about a past holiday, sprinkle in passé composé verbs naturally. The unpredictable question will often invite you to compare or talk about a future intention, so have a few open-ended phrases ready: ‘À mon avis…’ (In my opinion…), ‘Je préférerais…’ (I would prefer…), ‘Si j’avais le choix…’ (If I had the choice…).

4. General Conversation: The Thematic Dialogue | 一般会话:主题式的对话

The general conversation is based on two themes you have chosen from the specification. You must not know the exact questions in advance, but you do know the theme and can therefore prepare rich vocabulary and complex structures. At Foundation Tier, the conversation lasts 3–5 minutes and you will be asked a mix of closed and open questions; at Higher, 5–7 minutes with an expectation of longer, developed responses. Examiners award marks for communication and range of language, so provide extended answers that include opinions, reasons, examples, and references to different time frames.

一般会话基于你从大纲中选择的两个主题。你无法提前知道确切的问题,但你知道主题,因此可以准备好丰富的词汇和复杂的结构。在基础等级,会话持续三到五分钟,你会被问及封闭式和开放式的问题;在高级等级,五到七分钟,要求你给出更长、更展开的回答。考官根据沟通效果和语言广度打分,因此你要给出包含观点、理由、例子以及涉及不同时间段的扩展回答。

Create a personal bank of sophisticated phrases, for instance: ‘Ce qui me plaît le plus, c’est…’ (What I like the most is…), ‘Je dirais que…’ (I would say that…), ‘Bien que ce soit difficile, je pense que…’ (Although it is difficult, I think that…). Use connectives such as ‘cependant’ (however), ‘en revanche’ (on the other hand), ‘par conséquent’ (consequently) to link ideas. To hit the highest marks, you must demonstrate knowledge of at least three tenses – present, past, and future – and ideally a conditional. When revising, make mind maps for each theme with key nouns, verbs, adjectives, and phrases for discussing personal experiences, the wider world, and cultural aspects.

5. Listening Exam: Format and Mark Allocation | 听力考试:形式与分值分布

The AQA French listening paper is divided into two sections. Section A consists of questions and answers in English, while Section B requires answers in French. You will hear a range of recordings, including short statements, dialogues, monologues, and news items, all spoken by native speakers at a natural pace. The test lasts about 35 minutes at Foundation Tier and 45 minutes at Higher, including a five-minute reading period at the start. Each recording is played twice, with pauses in between to write your answers. There is no negative marking, so always write something for each question, even if you are guessing.

AQA 法语听力试卷分为两个部分。A 部分是英语提问和英语作答,B 部分则要求用法语作答。你将听到各种各样的录音,包括短句、对话、独白和新闻片段,全部由母语者以自然语速录制而成。考试时间为基础等级约三十五分钟,高级等级四十五分钟,其中包括开始前的五分钟阅读时间。每段录音播放两遍,两遍之间有停顿供你写下答案。不实行倒扣分,所以即使你在猜测,每道题也一定要写点什么。

Before each recording, you are given time to read the questions. Use this time very wisely. Highlight the question words (who, what, where, when, why) and underline keywords in the answer options. For Section B, you must know how to spell French words accurately; a garbled answer will not get the mark even if the idea is correct. Pay particular attention to numbers, dates, times, and prices, as these details are frequently tested. Negative forms like ne… pas / ne… jamais / ne… rien can completely change the meaning, so listen out for the ‘ne’ or the ‘n” sound before the verb.

6. Pre-Listening Strategies: Reading the Paper Effectively | 听前策略:高效阅读试卷

Your five-minute reading time is critical. Do not simply stare at the questions – actively work with them. For multiple-choice questions, think of French synonyms that might appear in the recording instead of the words written on the paper. For instance, if the question says ‘nuageux’ (cloudy), the speaker might say ‘le ciel est gris’ (the sky is grey) or ‘il n’y a pas de soleil’ (there is no sun). Underline all proper nouns, numbers, and dates because these are anchors that will tell you where you are in the recording. In gap-fill tasks, anticipate what type of word is missing: a noun, an adjective, a verb in a specific tense, a time phrase, etc.

Another powerful technique is to write the English meaning next to key French words, especially for Section B. This prevents you from freezing if you cannot instantly recall a word later. If the question asks for an opinion, listen for opinion markers like ‘je trouve que’, ‘à mon avis’, ‘je pense que’. Negative opinions are often tested: ‘je ne supporte pas…’ (I can’t stand…), ‘c’est nul’ (it’s rubbish), ‘ça m’énerve’ (it annoys me). Always note the context: a word like ‘louer’ could mean ‘to rent’ or ‘to praise’; only the topic will help you decide.

7. During Listening: Note-Taking and Clue Spotting | 听力过程中:做笔记和寻找线索

While the recording plays, resist the urge to write the first thing you hear. Instead, confirm your answer on the second listening, especially for comprehension-style questions. Use the first play to get the gist and note down any numbers, names, or key verbs. On the second play, fill in the finer details. For Multiple Choice, cross out obviously wrong options during the first listening, so you have a 50/50 chance if you need to guess. Pay attention to tone of voice; sarcasm, enthusiasm, or hesitation can signal the true meaning behind the words.

当录音在播放时,要克制住写下听到的第一个答案的冲动。相反,在第二遍听时确认你的答案,尤其是理解型题目。利用第一遍播放把握大意,并记下任何数字、姓名或关键动词。第二遍时再填入更精细的细节。对付选择题,在第一遍时就把明显错误的选项划掉,这样即便需要猜测,你也有百分之五十的机会。注意说话的语气;讽刺、热情或犹豫都可能暗示出话语背后的真实含义。

Be alert for trap words and distractors. The recording might use a negative near a positive statement: ‘Je voudrais aller au cinéma, mais je n’ai pas d’argent.’ (I would like to go to the cinema, but I have no money.) The correct answer is that the person cannot go, not that they want to. Similarly, time frames can shift: ‘D’habitude je joue au foot, mais hier j’ai joué au tennis.’ (Usually I play football, but yesterday I played tennis.) The question about what was done yesterday needs the tennis answer, not football. Always listen for the whole phrase before writing.

8. Vocabulary Essentials for Listening & Speaking | 听力和口语的核心词汇

Building a robust set of high-frequency words is the single most effective exam preparation. Start with question words: qui (who), quoi / que (what), où (where), quand (when), pourquoi (why), comment (how), combien (how much/many). Next, master all the basic connecting words: et, mais, donc, parce que / car, cependant, puis, ensuite, enfin. For opinions, extend beyond ‘c’est bien’: use ‘c’est passionnant’ (it’s exciting), ‘c’est inutile’ (it’s useless), ‘ça vaut la peine’ (it’s worth it), ‘il est important de’ (it is important to). For time expressions, know the difference between ‘le matin’ (in the morning), ‘ce matin’ (this morning), and ‘le lendemain’ (the next day).

建立一套扎实的高频词汇库,是最高效的备考方法。从疑问词开始:qui(谁)、quoi / que(什么)、où(哪里)、quand(什么时候)、pourquoi(为什么)、comment(怎样)、combien(多少)。接下来,掌握所有基本的连接词:et、mais、donc、parce que / car、cependant、puis、ensuite、enfin。表达观点时,不要局限于 ‘c’est bien’:使用 ‘c’est passionnant’(很吸引人)、’c’est inutile’(没用)、’ça vaut la peine’(值得)、’il est important de’(……很重要)。至于时间表达,要知道 ‘le matin’(在早上)、’ce matin’(今天早上)和 ‘le lendemain’(第二天)之间的区别。

Category (类别) High-Yield Phrases (高分短语)
Giving reasons (给出理由) parce que c’est pratique (because it’s practical), étant donné que (given that), puisque (since)
Future plans (未来计划) je vais + infinitive, j’ai l’intention de (I intend to), je compte + infinitive (I plan to), j’espère + infinitive (I hope to)
Past tenses (过去时态) j’ai visité, je suis allé(e), c’était amusant, on a passé une semaine, il faisait beau
Comparisons (比较) plus… que (more… than), moins… que (less… than), aussi… que (as… as), c’est mieux que
Avoiding repetition (避免重复) cela (that), ce que j’aime c’est (what I like is), ce qui est important (what is important)

9. Pronunciation and Fluency Hacks for the Oral | 口语考试中的发音与流利度技巧

Examiners are not looking for a perfect native accent; they want clear communication. However, certain pronunciation features can boost your clarity. Master the French ‘u’ sound (like in ‘tu’ and ‘salut’) by pouting your lips tightly and saying ‘ee’. The ‘r’ sound comes from the back of the throat – practise words like ‘rouge’, ‘rue’, ‘restaurant’. Silent final consonants are a must-know: in ‘chat’, ‘trop’, ‘petit’ the final letter is not pronounced. Liaison can make you sound more natural: ‘vous avez’ sounds like ‘voo-z-avay’ and ‘les amis’ becomes ‘lez-ami’. Even small efforts here raise your communication mark.

Fluency does not mean speaking fast; it means keeping a steady flow without long pauses. To buy thinking time, use fillers like ‘alors’ (so), ‘euh’ (um), ‘voyons’ (let’s see), ‘en fait’ (actually). Better still, learn to rephrase: ‘Je veux dire que…’ (I mean that…), ‘Autrement dit…’ (In other words…). If you get stuck on a word, describe it: if you forget ‘piscine’ (swimming pool), say ‘l’endroit où on nage’ (the place where you swim). This demonstrates strategic competence and keeps the conversation alive. Record yourself answering sample questions and listen back for hesitations and pronunciation errors.

10. Managing Exam Stress and Staying Present | 管理考试压力,保持当下状态

Both speaking and listening exams can provoke anxiety because they are interactive and require on-the-spot thinking. In the oral, the examiner is not trying to catch you out; they are trained to help you show your best French. Take a deep breath before entering the room and treat the conversation as a chance to show off what you know. If you make a mistake, correct yourself calmly: ‘Pardon, je voulais dire…’ (Sorry, I meant to say…). Self-correction is actually a positive sign of linguistic awareness.

口语和听力考试都可能引发焦虑,因为它们都是互动性的,并且要求当场思考。在口语考试中,考官并不是要让你出丑;他们受过训练,会帮助你展现出你最好的法语水平。进入房间前深呼吸一下,把对话看作展示你所学知识的机会。如果你犯了错,冷静地纠正自己:’Pardon, je voulais dire…’(抱歉,我本想说……)。自我纠正其实是语言意识良好的积极信号。

For the listening exam, panic often sets in when a word is missed on the first play. Remind yourself that the second playing will come, and use the pause to move on mentally to the next question. Stay focused on extracting the required information, not on understanding every single word. A common trick is to close your eyes briefly during the recording to block out visual distractions, but keep your pen ready to jot down notes. Finally, ensure you have had a good night’s sleep and eaten something nutritious before both exams; cognitive stamina is vital for maintaining concentration.

11. Using Past Papers and Mark Schemes | 善用历年真题和评分方案

The most effective way to prepare for both speaking and listening is to repeatedly use AQA past papers along with the corresponding mark schemes. For listening, complete full papers under timed conditions and then mark them carefully. Pay attention not just to the correct answer but also to why wrong answers are incorrect, as this will reveal the distractors you need to avoid. For speaking, use the past role-play and photo card stimuli to simulate the exam with a partner or even in front of a mirror. Record yourself and compare your answers to the mark scheme descriptors for Communication and Range of Language.

备考口语和听力最有效的方式,就是反复使用 AQA 的历年真题以及对应的评分方案。对于听力,要在计时条件下完成整份试卷,然后仔细批改。不仅要关注正确答案,还要分析错误答案为何是错的,因为这能揭示出你需要规避的干扰项。对于口语,利用过去的角色扮演和图片卡片材料,与同伴模拟考试,甚至对着镜子练习。把自己说的录下来,并与评分方案中关于“沟通”和“语言广度”的描述进行对比。

Top students analyse examiner reports published each year. These reports often highlight common mistakes, such as mishearing numbers, ignoring negative constructions, or not linking opinions with justifications in the general conversation. Make a checklist of these pitfalls and actively review it before your next practice session. Identify your weak themes – perhaps school vocabulary or environmental issues – and create targeted verb and noun lists to patch those gaps. The more you familiarize yourself with the format and expectations, the more routine and less frightening the exams become.

顶尖的学生会分析每年公布的考官报告。这些报告通常会突出常见的错误,比如听错数字、忽视否定结构,或者在一般会话中没有将观点与理由联系起来。把这些陷阱做成一份检查清单,并在下一次练习前主动复习一遍。找出你自己的薄弱主题——可能是学校词汇或环境议题——然后创建针对性的动词和名词列表,以弥补这些漏洞。你对考试形式和期望越是熟悉,考试就越会变得如同例行公事,不再那么可怕。

12. Final Checklist and Day-of-Exam Routine | 最终检查清单与考试当天的流程

In the final week, create a one-page summary sheet for speaking covering: essential opinion phrases, a reminder to use three tenses, tricky pronunciation notes, and a few higher-level idioms such as ‘avoir le cafard’ (to feel down) or ‘être en train de’ (to be in the middle of). For listening, have a checklist: read questions actively, predict answers, note negative forms, listen twice, and guess if unsure. Pack your bag the night before with a clear pencil case, spare pens, and a watch for timing.

在最后一周,为口语制作一份单页总结,涵盖:核心的观点短语、关于使用三种时态的提醒、容易出错的发音笔记,以及少数几个高级习语,比如 ‘avoir le cafard’(感到郁闷)或 ‘être en train de’(正在做某事)。为听力也准备一份检查清单:主动阅读题目、预测答案、注意否定形式、听两遍、不确定时就猜。考试前一晚把包收拾好,装上透明的笔袋、备用笔和看时间用的手表。

Arrive at the speaking exam early enough to settle your nerves. During the 12-minute preparation, stay calm and allocate your time: 4 minutes for role-play, 4 minutes for photo card, and 4 minutes to revise your general conversation themes. In the listening exam, when the recording says ‘Now read the questions’, do exactly that and keep your pencil moving. Trust your preparation, stay positive, and remember that every mark counts. With systematic revision and these strategies, you are fully equipped to tackle the AQA French speaking and listening assessments with confidence.
