📚 Year 12 Cambridge Chinese: Quick Reference Handbook of Formulas and Theorems | 剑桥Year 12中文:公式定理速查手册

This revision handbook collates the essential ‘formulas’ and ‘theorems’ of Mandarin Chinese for Year 12 Cambridge learners, anchoring grammar patterns and sentence structures into a quick-reference format. By treating syntactic rules as repeatable templates, you can internalise the language with the same confidence you apply to a mathematical equation.

本速查手册为剑桥 Year 12 中文学习者整理了核心“公式”与“定理”,将语法规律和句型结构转化为可反复套用的模板,就像运用数学方程一样帮助你内化语言。

1. Basic Word Order Formulas | 基本语序公式

Chinese word order is stricter than English in many respects, yet it follows a dependable ‘SVO + modifiers’ blueprint. Memorising the core formula eliminates guesswork when constructing even complex sentences.

中文语序在很多方面比英语更固定,遵循“主谓宾 + 修饰成分”的可靠蓝图。记住核心公式能让造句时不再靠猜。

Formula / 公式 Explanation / 说明 Example / 例句
Subject + Time + Manner + Place + Verb (+ Object) Time, manner and place always precede the verb. 我 今天 在图书馆 认真 看 书。
Subject + Adverb + Adjective Adverbs go before adjectives. 她 很 聪明。
Time-When before Time-Duration When an action happens comes before how long it lasts. 我 昨天 学了 三个小时 中文。

The fundamental theorem: everything that specifies the verb—time, location, instrument, manner—stacks neatly before it, never after like in English. The only post-verb slot is reserved for duration, frequency object or complement structures.

根本定理是:所有修饰动词的成分——时间、地点、工具、方式——都整齐地堆叠在动词之前,从不后置。动词之后的位置只留给时量、频率宾语或补语结构。

2. The ‘是’ Sentence Theorem | “是”字句定理

The 是 (shì) pattern is not simply ‘to be’; it links two noun phrases and must never be followed by an adjective alone. Think of it as an equals sign that connects identities or categories.

“是”字结构不单单是“to be”;它连接两个名词短语,绝不能单独跟形容词。把它想象成连接身份或类别的等号。

Pattern / 句型 Use / 用途 Example / 例句
A + 是 + B (noun) Identity, classification 他是学生。
A + 不是 + B Negation 我不是老师。
A + 是 + 的 (emphasis) Focus on time, place, manner of a completed action 我是昨天坐火车来的。

Common learner error: placing an adjective after 是 (e.g. ‘他是高’). The correct formula for adjectives is simply ‘Subject + Adverb + Adjective’, requiring no copula. Only switch to 是 when both sides of the equation are nouns or when using the 是⋯的 construction for emphasis.

常见错误:在“是”后面直接放形容词(如“他是高”)。形容词的正确公式是“主语+副词+形容词”,无需系词。只有当等式两边都是名词,或使用“是⋯的”强调结构时才用“是”。

3. The ‘有’ Sentence Formulas | “有”字句公式

The character 有 (yǒu) operates in three distinct equations: possession, existence and comparison. Understanding the satellite words around 有 determines which meaning fires.

“有”字参与三种不同意义的等式:领有、存在和比较。掌握“有”周围的伴随词就能判断语义。

Formula / 公式 Meaning / 含义 Example / 例句
Subject + 有 + Object Possession or existence 我有一本书。学校里有图书馆。
Place + 有 + Object Existence in a location 桌子上有杯子。
A + 有 + B + (这么/那么) + Adjective Comparison: A is as … as B 她有你这么高。

The existence formula ‘Place + 有 + Object’ is purely descriptive and does not involve the prepositions like ‘在’. For comparison, the pattern ‘A + 有 + B + Adjective’ usually appears with 这么 or 那么 and is often used in questions or negative statements to express ‘as … as’.

存在句“地方+有+物体”纯粹描写场景,不涉及“在”这样的介词。比较句型“A + 有 + B + 形容词”常与“这么/那么”搭配,多用于疑问句或否定句,表达“和……一样……”。

4. Comparison Theorems | 比较句型定理

Chinese comparison structures follow fixed slots like a balance scale. Whether you use 比, 没有 or 一样, the adjective never changes form, and the measure of difference always sits after the adjective.

中文比较结构像天平一样有固定槽位。不论用“比”“没有”还是“一样”,形容词本身永远不变形,差异量词总要放在形容词之后。

Comparison Pattern / 比较句型 Function / 功能 Example / 例句
A + 比 + B + Adj (+ 一点儿/多了/得多) Comparative ‘more than’ 他比我高一点儿。
A + 没有 + B + (这么/那么) + Adj Negative comparison ‘not as … as’ 我没有他那么努力。
A + 跟/和 + B + 一样 (+ Adj) Equality ‘as … as’ 我跟你一样高。
A + 比 + B + 更/还 + Adj Even more … 今天比昨天更冷。

Remember the cardinal rule: comparative words like 很, 非常, 太 cannot modify the adjective in a 比 sentence. ‘他比我很高’ is grammatically broken. Instead, use 他比我高多了 or 他比我高很多.

记住首要规则:在“比”字句中,“很、非常、太”等程度副词不能修饰形容词。“他比我很高”是病句,应改为“他比我高多了”或“他比我高很多”。

5. 把-Construction and 被-Construction | 把字句与被字句结构公式

The 把 and 被 patterns are mirror images: one foregrounds the agent’s disposal of an object, the other highlights the recipient’s experience. Both demand a resultative ending—the verb cannot stand naked.

“把”字句和“被”字句互为镜像:一个突显施动者对宾语的处置,另一个凸显受动者的经历。两者都要求有结果性结尾——动词不能光杆出现。

Formula / 公式 Condition / 条件 Example / 例句
Subject + 把 + Object + Verb + Complement Verb must have a resultative, directional or quantitative complement; object is definite 我把作业做完了。
Receiver + 被 + Agent + Verb + Complement Agent can be omitted; typically for adverse events or neutral passives 我的电脑被偷了。
Receiver + 被 + Verb + Complement Agent omitted when unknown or irrelevant 窗户被打破了。

A valid 把 sentence proves you understand Chinese ‘telicity’: the action must reach a terminal point. Therefore, 我把书看 is incomplete; you must add 完, 懂 or 了一个小时 to close the event.

合格的“把”字句证明你掌握了中文的“终结性”:动作必须抵达终点。因此“我把书看”不完整,必须加上“完”“懂”或“了一个小时”来收束事件。

6. Connective Pair Theorems | 关联词搭配定理

In formal and academic Chinese, connectives travel in fixed pairs, never alone. Treat each pair as a single theorem where both halves must be present unless ellipsis is explicitly allowed.

The theorem ‘虽然…但是…’ nearly always omits the English equivalent of ‘but’ when translating because English uses ‘although’ alone. In Chinese, however, the second half 但是 is indispensable in most written registers.

“虽然……但是……”定理在翻译时经常让人混淆,因为英语只用’although’而中文中“但是”在大多数书面语体里必不可少。

7. Complement Structure Formulas | 补语结构公式

Complements are the mathematical functions that attach to verbs to express result, direction, degree or possibility. They follow the verb immediately and often dictate the whole nuance of the verb phrase.

补语是附加在动词上表示结果、方向、程度或可能的“函数”,紧跟在动词之后,往往决定整个动词短语的细微含义。

Complement Type / 补语类型 Formula / 公式 Example / 例句
Resultative Complement Verb + Result (verb/adjective) 听 懂, 吃 完, 看 见
Directional Complement Verb + 来/去 (or compound direction) 走 过去, 飞 上来, 拿 回来
Degree Complement (得) Verb + 得 + Adverb/Adjective Phrase 他跑 得 很快。
Potential Complement Verb + 得/不 + Result/Direction 看 得 懂, 吃 不 完, 上 不 去
Quantity Complement Verb + Duration/Frequency + (Object) 我等了 十分钟。 我去过 两次。

The potential complement ‘Verb + 得/不 + complement’ is a high-frequency pattern that obviates the need for modal auxiliaries. For example, 听得懂 doesn’t just mean ‘able to understand’—it encodes the capability through the very structure.

可能补语“动词+得/不+补语”是高频模式,直接用结构表达了情态意义,避免了使用助动词。例如“听得懂”不仅表示“能够明白”,更通过结构本身编码了能力。

8. Aspect Particle Theorems: 了, 着, 过 | 动态助词定理:了、着、过

Aspect particles tag the temporal contour of an action: 了 marks completion or change of state, 着 signals ongoing or static existence, and 过 flags life experience. Their placement obeys strict adjacency rules.

动态助词标记动作的时间轮廓:“了”表示完成或状态改变,“着”表示持续或静态存在,“过”表示人生经验。它们的位置遵循严格的邻接规则。

Particle / 助词 Placement Formula / 位置公式 Key Condition / 关键条件 Example / 例句
了 (completed action) Verb + 了 (+ Quantity + Object) Object must be quantified or definite 我买了 三本书。
了 (change of state) Sentence-final 了 Indicates new situation 下雨了。
着 (ongoing action) Verb + 着 (+ Object) Often used with an accompanying action or static description 他听着音乐做作业。
着 (state of existence) Place + Verb + 着 + Object Describes a static scene 墙上挂着一幅画。
过 (past experience) Verb + 过 (+ Object) Action experienced at least once 我吃过北京烤鸭。

A critical theorem: negate completed 了 with 没有 and drop 了. You must say 我没有买书, not ‘我没有买了书’. For 过 negative, use 没有 + Verb + 过, as in 我没有去过.

关键定理:完成态“了”的否定用“没有”,并去掉“了”,必须说“我没有买书”,不能说“我没有买了书”。“过”的否定是“没有+动词+过”,如“我没有去过”。

9. Attributive and Adverbial Modifier Formulas | 定语和状语位置公式

Regardless of length, an attributive modifier always precedes its head noun and is glued with 的, while an adverbial precedes the verb and is flagged by 地. Never invert this left-branching rule.

不论多长,定语永远置于中心名词之前并用“的”连接,状语永远在动词前并以“地”为标志。这一左分支规则不可颠倒。

Modifier Type / 修饰类型 Formula / 公式 Example / 例句
Simple Attributive (Adjective) Adjective + 的 + Noun (的 often omitted for monosyllabic close-knit adjectives) 好(的)朋友, 漂亮的女孩子
Clausal Attributive Clause + 的 + Noun 我昨天买的书
Simple Adverbial Adverbial + 地 + Verb (地 often retained for descriptive adverbs) 他慢慢地走。 他们高兴地唱歌。
Multi-word Adverbial Adverbial Phrase + 地 + Verb Phrase 她非常认真地准备考试。

Pay attention to the de-construction: 的 is used for attributive, 地 for adverbial and 得 for complement. This three-way distinction is not only written but also syntactically crucial. Mixing them changes meaning.

注意“的、地、得”的区分:定语用“的”,状语用“地”,补语用“得”。这三者不仅在书写上区分,在句法上也至关重要,混淆会改变句意。

10. Question Formation Formulas | 疑问句公式

Unlike English, Chinese does not require subject-auxiliary inversion. Questions are formed by adding a particle, inserting an affirmative-negative pair, or substituting a question word exactly where the answer would sit.

与英语不同,中文不需要主谓倒装。造问句只需添加语气词、插入正反形式,或用疑问词直接替换答案所在位置。
