Balance – The distribution of visual weight within a composition. Symmetrical balance mirrors elements; asymmetrical balance uses contrasting objects to achieve equilibrium.

Hatching – A shading technique using closely spaced parallel lines. The density and direction of lines determine the darkness and texture.
