📚 Year 12 SQA German: Formula & Theorem Quick Reference | Year 12 SQA 德语:公式定理速查手册

For SQA Higher German candidates, mastering grammar often feels like solving a series of connected puzzles. Just as in mathematics, where a formula can be applied to a range of problems, German has its own ‘formulas’ — predictable patterns for verb conjugation, case endings, word order, and more. This quick-reference handbook distils the key grammatical structures into memorable formulas and theorems, designed to help you revise efficiently and apply rules accurately in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

对于 SQA 高等德语考生而言,掌握语法常常像解一系列关联谜题。正如数学中的公式可以应用于各类问题,德语也有自己的“公式”——动词变位、格词尾、语序等的可预测模式。本速查手册将关键语法结构提炼为易记的公式和定理,旨在帮助你高效复习,并在读、写、说、听中准确运用规则。

1. Noun Gender & Article Formulas | 名词性与冠词公式

Every German noun belongs to one of three genders: masculine, feminine, or neuter. The gender determines the form of the definite and indefinite articles, which change across the four cases — nominative, accusative, dative, and genitive. Treat the definite article patterns as your first essential formula.

每个德语名词属于三个性之一:阳性、阴性或中性。名词的性质决定了定冠词和不定冠词的形式,这些形式在四个格——主格、宾格、与格、属格中发生变化。把定冠词变化模式作为你的第一条核心公式。

Memorise the definite article ‘formula’ for each case. For example, the nominative pattern is der (m), die (f), das (n), die (pl). Visualise it as a matrix; the same structure governs adjective endings and relative pronouns.

记住每个格的定冠词“公式”。例如,主格模式为 der(阳)、die(阴)、das(中)、die(复)。把它想象成一个矩阵;相同的结构将支配形容词词尾和关系代词。

Case Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural
Nominative der die das die
Accusative den die das die
Dative dem der dem den
Genitive des der des der

The indefinite article (ein, eine, ein) follows a similar declension, missing the plural. This ‘article formula’ is the foundation; every adjective ending and relative pronoun depends on it.

不定冠词(ein, eine, ein)遵循相似的变格,只是没有复数形式。这个“冠词公式”是基础;每个形容词词尾和关系代词都依赖于它。

2. Present Tense Conjugation: The Regular Verb Formula | 现在时变位:规则动词公式

Regular German verbs follow a predictable conjugation pattern in the present tense. Take the infinitive stem (remove -en or -n) and add the following endings: ich -e, du -st, er/sie/es -t, wir -en, ihr -t, sie/Sie -en. This is your fundamental verb formula.

规则德语动词现在时遵循可预测的变位模式。取不定式词干(去掉 -en 或 -n)并添加以下词尾:ich -e, du -st, er/sie/es -t, wir -en, ihr -t, sie/Sie -en。这是动词的核心公式。

Example with ‘machen’: ich mache, du machst, er macht, wir machen, ihr macht, sie machen. Verbs whose stem ends in -d, -t, or consonant + m/n insert an -e- before the -st and -t endings (e.g., arbeiten → du arbeitest).

以 machen 为例:ich mache, du machst, er macht, wir machen, ihr macht, sie machen。词干以 -d、-t 或辅音加 m/n 结尾的动词,在 -st 和 -t 词尾前插入 -e-(例如 arbeiten → du arbeitest)。

3. Irregular & Stem-Changing Verb Theorems | 不规则与词干变化动词定理

A number of high-frequency verbs exhibit stem-vowel changes in the du and er/sie/es forms. The most common patterns are e → i (geben → du gibst, er gibt) and a → ä (fahren → du fährst, er fährt). Some verbs like ‘nehmen’ show a longer change (nehmen → du nimmst, er nimmt). Treat these as ‘stem-change theorems’ and learn them by heart.

许多高频动词在 du 和 er/sie/es 形式中会出现词干元音变化。最常见的模式是 e → i(geben → du gibst, er gibt)和 a → ä(fahren → du fährst, er fährt)。有些动词如 nehmen 呈现出更长的词干变化(nehmen → du nimmst, er nimmt)。将这些视为“词干变化定理”并牢记。

The auxiliary verbs sein, haben, and werden are completely irregular and must be memorised as individual formulas:

助动词 sein、haben 和 werden 完全不规则,必须作为独立公式记忆:

sein: ich bin, du bist, er ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie sind

haben: ich habe, du hast, er hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie haben

werden: ich werde, du wirst, er wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie werden

4. Modal Verb Framework | 情态动词框架

Modal verbs (dürfen, können, mögen, müssen, sollen, wollen) follow a distinct conjugation pattern: the ich and er/sie/es forms are identical (no ending), while the other persons take regular endings. Some modals also have stem-vowel changes.

In a main clause, the modal verb occupies position 2 and the main infinitive moves to the end: Ich kann sehr gut schwimmen. This constitutes the ‘modal verb theorem’.

在主句中,情态动词占据第二位,而主要的不定式移至句末:Ich kann sehr gut schwimmen. 这构成了“情态动词定理”。

5. Perfect Tense Construction Formula | 完成时构成公式

The perfect tense is built with an auxiliary (haben or sein) and the past participle. The formula is: auxiliary (conjugated) + … + past participle (at end). The choice of auxiliary follows a simple rule: sein for verbs indicating movement or change of state, haben for most others.

完成时由助动词(haben 或 sein)加上过去分词构成。公式为:变位助动词 + … + 过去分词(句末)。助动词的选择遵循简单规则:表示移动或状态变化的动词用 sein,其他大多数用 haben。

Past participle formation formulas: weak verbs → ge + stem + t (machen → gemacht); strong verbs → ge + stem (often with vowel change) + en (fahren → gefahren); mixed verbs → ge + stem (vowel change) + t (bringen → gebracht). Verbs with inseparable prefixes (be-, emp-, ent-, er-, ge-, miss-, ver-, zer-) skip the ge- (verstehen → verstanden). Separable prefixes insert ge- between prefix and stem: aufmachen → aufgemacht.

过去分词构成公式:弱变化动词 → ge + 词干 + t(machen → gemacht);强变化动词 → ge + 词干(常带元音变化)+ en(fahren → gefahren);混合动词 → ge + 词干(元音变化)+ t(bringen → gebracht)。带不可分前缀(be-, emp-, ent-, er-, ge-, miss-, ver-, zer-)的动词不加 ge-(verstehen → verstanden)。可分前缀将 ge- 插入前缀和词干之间:aufmachen → aufgemacht。

6. Word Order Theorem: Main vs. Subordinate Clauses | 语序定理:主句与从句

German word order can be reduced to two fundamental theorems. Theorem 1 (Main clause): the conjugated verb is always in second position (V2). Any element — subject, time phrase, object — can occupy position 1, but the verb remains second. Theorem 2 (Subordinate clause): the conjugated verb moves to the end.

德语语序可以简化为两条基本定理。定理1(主句):变位动词始终处于第二位(V2)。任何成分——主语、时间短语、宾语——都可以占据第一位,但动词必须保持在第二位。定理
