1. Semiotics & Sign Systems | 符号学与符号系统

Semiotics, pioneered by Saussure and Barthes, is the foundation of media analysis. Understanding the distinction between denotation and connotation is crucial for deconstructing media texts.

Signifier (能指) – The physical form of a sign – the word, image, or sound we perceive.
