1. Noun Genders and Articles | 名词性别与冠词

Every German noun has a gender – masculine, feminine or neuter – and must be learned with its definite article: der (m.), die (f.), das (n.). The indefinite article is ein (m./n.) and eine (f.).

每个德语名词都有性别——阳性、阴性或中性——并且必须和定冠词一起记忆:der(阳)、die(阴)、das(中)。不定冠词是 ein(阳/中)和 eine(阴)。

Gender Definite article Indefinite article
Masculine der ein
Feminine die eine
Neuter das ein
Plural (all genders) die – (keine used)

2. The Four Cases | 四个格

German uses four cases to show the role of a noun or pronoun in a sentence. The definite article changes its form according to case and gender.

德语用四个格来表示名词或代词在句中的作用。定冠词要根据格和性别变化形式。

Case Question m. f. n. pl.
Nominative who? what? der die das die
Accusative whom? what? den die das die
Dative to whom? (indirect object) dem der dem den (+n on noun)
Genitive whose? des der des der

The most common ‘formula’ pattern: subject (nominative) + verb + direct object (accusative) + indirect object (dative).

最常见的“公式”模式:主语(第一格)+ 动词 + 直接宾语(第四格)+ 间接宾语(第三格)。

Ich gebe dem Mann den Ball.

3. Present Tense Conjugation | 现在时动词变位

Regular verbs follow a stem + ending pattern. Remove -en from the infinitive to find the stem, then add the correct endings.

规则动词遵循词干 + 词尾的模式。去掉不定式的 -en 得到词干,然后加上正确的词尾。

Pronoun Ending spielen (to play)
ich -e spiele
du -st spielst
er/sie/es -t spielt
wir -en spielen
ihr -t spielt
sie/Sie -en spielen

Some strong verbs change the stem vowel in the du and er/sie/es forms, e.g. sehen → du siehst, er sieht.

一些强变化动词在 du 和 er/sie/es 形式中要改变词干元音,例如 sehen → du siehst, er sieht。

4. Past Tenses: Perfekt and Präteritum | 过去时:现在完成时和过去时

The Perfekt (conversational past) is formed with haben/sein (conjugated) + past participle. Most verbs take haben; verbs of movement or change of state often take sein.

现在完成时(口语过去时)由 haben/sein(变位)+ 过去分词构成。大多数动词用 haben;表示移动或状态变化的动词常用 sein。

Ich habe Fußball gespielt.
Er ist nach Hause gegangen.

For regular participles: ge- + stem + -t (spielen → gespielt). For irregular: ge- + changed stem + -en (gehen → gegangen).

规则过去分词:ge- + 词干 + -t(spielen → gespielt)。不规则:ge- + 变化词干 + -en(gehen → gegangen)。

Pronoun haben (to have) sein (to be)
ich habe bin
du hast bist
er/sie/es hat ist
wir haben sind
ihr habt seid
sie/Sie haben sind

The Präteritum (simple past) is used mainly in written German and with modal verbs. Key forms: hatte (had), war (was), konnte (could), wollte (wanted).

过去时(简单过去时)主要用于书面语和情态动词。关键形式:hatte(有/过去式)、war(是/过去式)、konnte(可以/过去式)、wollte(想要/过去式)。

5. Future Tense | 将来时

Future tense is formed with the present tense of werden + infinitive (placed at the end of the clause).

将来时由 werden 的现在时变位 + 动词不定式(放在句末)构成。

Ich werde morgen ins Kino gehen. (I will go to the cinema tomorrow.)

Pronoun werden
ich werde
du wirst
er/sie/es wird
wir werden
ihr werdet
sie/Sie werden

6. Modal Verbs | 情态动词

Modal verbs modify the meaning of a main verb. The six modal verbs are: dürfen (may), können (can), mögen (like), müssen (must), sollen (should), wollen (want). They conjugate irregularly in the present tense, with ich and er/sie/es often having the same form (no ending).

情态动词用来补充主要动词的含义。六个情态动词是:dürfen(允许)、können(能够)、mögen(喜欢)、müssen(必须)、sollen(应该)、wollen(想要)。它们的现在时变位不规则,ich 和 er/sie/es 形式通常相同(无词尾)。

Ich kann gut schwimmen. (I can swim well.)

In a sentence, the modal verb occupies the second position and the main verb goes to the end as an infinitive.

在句中,情态动词位于第二位,主动词以不定式形式放在句末。

7. Adjective Endings | 形容词词尾

Adjective endings depend on whether there is a preceding article and which case, gender and number are used. Three tables summarise the patterns.

形容词词尾取决于前面是否有冠词以及所用的格、性和数。三个表格概括了这些模式。

After definite article (der-words):

Case m. f. n. pl.
Nominative -e -e -e -en
Accusative -en -e -e -en
Dative -en -en -en -en
Genitive -en -en -en -en

After indefinite article (ein-words):

Case m. f. n. pl.
Nominative -er -e -es -en
Accusative -en -e -es -en
Dative -en -en -en -en
Genitive -en -en -en -en

No article (zero article):

Case m. f. n. pl.
Nominative -er -e -es -e
Accusative -en -e -es -e
Dative -em -er -em -en
Genitive -en -er -en -er

8. Sentence Structure: Verb Second Position | 句子结构:动词第二位置

In main clauses, the conjugated verb must be the second element – not necessarily the second word, but the second ‘idea’. The first element can be the subject, a time expression, a place or an object.

在主句中,变位动词必须是第二个成分——不一定是第二个单词,而是第二个“意群”。第一个成分可以是主语、时间状语、地点状语或宾语。

Morgen gehe ich ins Kino. (Tomorrow I go to the cinema.)

When a separable prefix verb is used, the prefix moves to the end of the clause: Ich stehe um 7 Uhr auf.

当使用可分动词时,前缀移到句末:Ich stehe um 7 Uhr auf。

9. Subordinate Clause Word Order | 从句语序

In a subordinate clause (introduced by dass, weil, wenn, obwohl etc.), the conjugated verb goes to the very end. If there is a modal verb or Perfekt auxiliary, the auxiliary remains at the end, and the infinitive/participle precedes it.

在从句中(由 dass, weil, wenn, obwohl 等引导),变位动词放到句末。如果有情态动词或现在完成时助动词,助动词在末尾,不定式/分词在其前面。

Ich weiß, dass er morgen kommt. (I know that he is coming tomorrow.)

Er ist müde, weil er lange gearbeitet hat. (He is tired because he worked for a long time.)

10. Prepositions with Cases | 介词与格

Prepositions govern specific cases. The following lists cover the most common ones tested at GCSE.

介词支配特定的格。下面的列表涵盖 GCSE 最常见的介词。

Accusative-only: durch, für, gegen, ohne, um, entlang (usually after the noun).

只接第四格: durch, für, gegen, ohne, um, entlang(通常在名词后)。

Dative-only: aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu, gegenüber.

只接第三格: aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu, gegenüber。

Two-way prepositions (Wechselpräpositionen): an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen. These take accusative when describing movement towards a place (wohin?) and dative when describing a static location (wo?).

两用介词: an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen。表示移动方向(wohin?)时用第四格,表示静止位置(wo?)时用第三格。

Ich lege das Buch auf den Tisch. (Akk.)
Das Buch liegt auf dem Tisch. (Dat.)

11. Conjunctions and Word Order | 连词与语序

Different types of conjunctions affect word order. Coordinating conjunctions (und, aber, oder, denn, sondern) do not change the verb position; each clause keeps its normal main-clause order.

不同类型的连词影响语序。并列连词(und, aber, oder, denn, sondern)不改变动词位置;每个分句保持正常的主句语序。

Subordinating conjunctions (weil, dass, wenn, obwohl, als, bevor, nachdem, damit) send the verb to the end of the clause.

从属连词(weil, dass, wenn, obwohl, als, bevor, nachdem, damit)把动词推到从句末尾。

Adverbial conjunctions (deshalb, trotzdem, dann, sonst) take position 1, which pushes the verb of the main clause into position 2 and the subject after the verb.

状语连词(deshalb, trotzdem, dann, sonst)占据第一位,把主句动词推到第二位,主语跟在动词后面。

Es regnet, deshalb bleibe ich zu Hause.

12. Common Irregular Verbs Quick Reference | 常用不规则动词快速查阅

These high-frequency irregular verbs appear in almost every GCSE paper. Their three key forms (infinitive, Präteritum stem, past participle) are listed. An asterisk (*) marks those that form the Perfekt with sein.

这些高频不规则动词几乎出现在每份 GCSE 试卷中。列出它们三个关键形式(不定式、过去式词干、过去分词)。星号 (*) 表示现在完成时用 sein 构成。

Infinitive Präteritum (3rd person) Past participle Meaning
gehen* ging gegangen to go
fahren* fuhr gefahren to drive/travel
kommen* kam gekommen to come
bleiben* blieb geblieben to stay
sein* war gewesen to be
haben hatte gehabt to have
