📚 Common Mistakes and Corrections in Pre-U CIE French | Pre-U CIE 法语常见误区与纠正方法

Mastering French at Pre-U level demands not only a rich vocabulary and a flair for expression but also a razor-sharp awareness of grammatical pitfalls. Many capable candidates lose valuable marks by repeating the same structural errors in essays, translations, and oral examinations. This article identifies the most frequent mistakes made by Pre-U CIE French learners and supplies clear, actionable corrections so that you can refine both the accuracy and elegance of your written and spoken French.

要在 Pre-U 阶段掌握法语,不仅需要丰富的词汇和出色的表达能力,还需要对语法陷阱有极敏锐的认识。许多能力不错的考生因为在写作、翻译和口语考试中反复出现相同的结构性错误而丢失宝贵的分数。本文梳理了 Pre-U CIE 法语学习者最常见的问题,并提供清晰、可操作的纠正方法,帮助你将法语书面语和口语打磨得既准确又优雅。

1. Article Omission and Misuse | 冠词的漏用与误用

English speakers often drop articles before abstract nouns or professions, but French requires the definite article in almost all general statements. A common mistake is to write Patience est une vertu instead of La patience est une vertu. The same rule applies to nouns referring to likes and dislikes: J’aime chocolat must become J’aime le chocolat.

英语母语者经常在抽象名词或职业前省略冠词,但法语在几乎所有泛指句子里都需要定冠词。常见错误是写成 Patience est une vertu,而正确形式是 La patience est une vertu。同样的规则也适用于表达喜好的名词:J’aime chocolat 必须改为 J’aime le chocolat。

After the preposition de following a negative, the partitive or indefinite article disappears entirely. Students frequently overcorrect and insert de plus an article, producing Je n’ai pas de la chance instead of the correct Je n’ai pas de chance. The only exception occurs when the verb être is used in a negative construction, where the original article remains: Ce n’est pas de la chance, c’est du travail.

在否定结构中,介词 de 后面的部分冠词或不定冠词会完全消失。学生常常矫枉过正,在 de 后再加上冠词,写出 Je n’ai pas de la chance,正确的说法是 Je n’ai pas de chance。唯一的例外是当动词 être 用于否定结构时,原冠词保留:Ce n’est pas de la chance, c’est du travail.

2. Preposition Pitfalls: à, de, en | 介词 à、de、en 的陷阱

Learners often confuse the prepositions à and de after certain verbs and adjectives. For instance, commencer à faire is correct, but many write commencer de faire, which, though not always wrong, can sound unnatural. The verb aider is followed by à when an infinitive follows: aider quelqu’un à faire, whereas aider quelqu’un alone requires no preposition. Conversely, décider de always takes de before an infinitive.

学习者经常在特定动词和形容词后混淆介词 à 和 de。比如,commencer à faire 是正确的,但很多人写成 commencer de faire,尽管后者不一定错,却不够自然。动词 aider 接不定式时要用 à:aider quelqu’un à faire,而单独用 aider quelqu’un 不带介词。相反,décider de 在不定式前永远用 de。

The prepositions en and au/aux with geographical names also cause confusion. En is used with feminine countries, continents, and countries starting with a vowel: en France, en Iran. Au is for masculine countries: au Canada, au Japon. Aux appears before plural countries: aux États-Unis. Many students incorrectly say en Canada or au France.

表示地理名称时,介词 en 与 au/aux 也常被混淆。En 用于阴性的国家、大洲以及以元音开头的国家:en France, en Iran。Au 用于阳性国家:au Canada, au Japon。Aux 用于复数国家:aux États-Unis。很多学生误说 en Canada 或 au France。

3. The Perennial Passé Composé vs. Imparfait Confusion | 复合过去时与未完成过去时的反复混淆

Perhaps the most stubborn mistake at Pre-U level is the misuse of the passé composé and the imparfait. The passé composé presents completed, punctual actions or a sequence of events: Hier, je suis allé au marché et j’ai acheté du pain. The imparfait describes ongoing states, habitual actions, or background descriptions: Quand j’étais petit, je jouais toujours dans le jardin.

在 Pre-U 阶段,最顽固的错误可能就是混淆 passé composé 和 imparfait。Passé composé 表示完成的、一次性的事件或一连串动作:Hier, je suis allé au marché et j’ai acheté du pain. Imparfait 则描述持续的状态、习惯性动作或背景描写:Quand j’étais petit, je jouais toujours dans le jardin.

The trap often lies in “interrupted action” sentences. The ongoing action, which forms the context, must be in the imparfait, while the interrupting event takes the passé composé: Je lisais quand le téléphone a sonné. Many candidates reverse these tenses: J’ai lu quand le téléphone sonnait changes the meaning dramatically.

陷阱往往出现在“被打断的动作”这类句子中。作为背景的持续动作必须用 imparfait,而打断性事件用 passé composé:Je lisais quand le téléphone a sonné. 许多考生把这两种时态颠倒:J’ai lu quand le téléphone sonnait 会彻底改变句意。

Verbs that describe mental states, feelings, and conditions—savoir, croire, aimer, être—usually favour the imparfait when referring to a past state unless a change of state or a specific moment is emphasised: J’ai su la vérité à ce moment-là marks a sudden realisation.

描述心理状态、情感和处境的动词——如 savoir, croire, aimer, être——表示过去状态时通常用 imparfait,除非强调的是状态转变或特定时刻:J’ai su la vérité à ce moment-là 标志着一个突然的认知。

4. Subjunctive Triggers: Overuse and Underuse | 虚拟式的触发:过度使用与使用不足

The subjunctive mood is a minefield. Many students either avoid it altogether or insert it after every que. The subjunctive is required after expressions of necessity, emotion, doubt, desire, and certain conjunctions, but never after verbs of certainty or fact like penser que in the affirmative. Thus, Je pense qu’il est intelligent takes the indicative, but Je ne pense pas qu’il soit intelligent requires the subjunctive.

虚拟语气是一个雷区。许多学生要么完全避开,要么在每一个 que 后面都加上虚拟式。虚拟式要求用在表示必要性、情感、怀疑、愿望以及某些连词之后,但绝不能用在表示肯定或事实的动词后面,比如肯定形式的 penser que。因此,Je pense qu’il est intelligent 用直陈式,而 Je ne pense pas qu’il soit intelligent 则需要虚拟式。

Another common error is forgetting that certain impersonal expressions require the subjunctive: Il faut que tu fasses attention, Il est important que nous soyons à l’heure. However, impersonal expressions stating probability or certainty, such as Il est probable que, take the indicative. Students must also remember that conjunctions like bien que, pour que, avant que, and jusqu’à ce que are always followed by the subjunctive.

另一个常见错误是忘记某些无人称表达需要虚拟式:Il faut que tu fasses attention,Il est important que nous soyons à l’heure。然而,表示可能性或确定性的无人称表达,如 Il est probable que,后面跟直陈式。学生还必须记住,连词 bien que、pour que、avant que 以及 jusqu’à ce que 之后永远用虚拟式。

5. Object Pronoun Order and Placement | 宾语代词的位置与顺序

Double-object pronouns cause widespread confusion. The correct order is me, te, se, nous, vous before le, la, les before lui, leur before y before en. A classic mistake is placing lui before le: Je lui le donne is wrong; it must be Je le lui donne. In the passé composé, these pronouns precede the auxiliary, and the past participle agrees with the preceding direct object if it is placed before the verb: Je les ai vus but Je leur ai parlé (no agreement with an indirect object).

双宾语代词引发大量混淆。正确的顺序是 me, te, se, nous, vous 在前,然后是 le, la, les,接着是 lui, leur,再接 y,最后是 en。一个典型错误是把 lui 放在 le 之前:Je lui le donne 是错误的,必须是 Je le lui donne。在 passé composé 中,这些代词位于助动词前,过去分词要与前置的直接宾语进行性数配合:Je les ai vus,但 Je leur ai parlé(间接宾语无配合)。

The placement of pronouns with infinitives is another sticking point. When two verbs are linked by a preposition or when using semi-auxiliaries like pouvoir or vouloir, the object pronoun sits immediately before the infinitive: Je vais le faire, Il doit en parler. In negative imperatives, the pronoun goes between ne and the verb, but in affirmative imperatives, it follows the verb with a hyphen: Donne-le-moi ! versus Ne me le donne pas !

代词在不定式结构中的位置是另一个难点。当两个动词用介词连接或使用半助动词如 pouvoir、vouloir 时,宾语代词要紧放在不定式之前:Je vais le faire,Il doit en parler。在否定命令式中,代词位于 ne 和动词之间;而在肯定命令式中,代词则放在动词后并用连字符连接:Donne-le-moi ! 与 Ne me le donne pas !。

6. Adjective Agreement: Gender and Number Rules Often Forgotten | 形容词的性数配合:容易被遗忘的规则

Adjective agreement is mostly well understood in theory, but under exam pressure candidates frequently overlook irregular feminine forms. Common mistakes include beau becoming beaus instead of beaux in the masculine plural, or forgetting that blanc becomes blanche in the feminine. Compound adjectives like les yeux bleu-vert remain invariable, whereas simple colours agree: des robes vertes.

在理论上,形容词配合大多已被理解,但在考试压力下,考生常常忽略不规则的阴性形式。常见错误包括把 beau 的阳性复数写成 beaus 而不是 beaux,或忘记 blanc 变成阴性 blanche。复合颜色形容词如 les yeux bleu-vert 保持不变,而简单颜色则要配合:des robes vertes。

Adjectives that precede the noun—bon, mauvais, petit, grand, jeune, vieux, joli, beau, nouveau—cause trouble in placement. Some adjectives change meaning depending on their position: un homme grand (a tall man) differs from un grand homme (a great man). Propre before the noun means “own” (ma propre chambre); after the noun it means “clean” (une chambre propre).

位于名词前的形容词——bon, mauvais, petit, grand, jeune, vieux, joli, beau, nouveau——在位置上容易出错。一些形容词的位置不同会带来意义变化:un homme grand(一个高个子男人)不同于 un grand homme(一个伟人)。Propre 在名词前意为“自己的”(ma propre chambre);在名词后意为“干净的”(une chambre propre)。

Agreement with avoir in compound tenses when the direct object precedes the verb is a persistent challenge: La décision que j’ai prise must agree in gender and number with décision, yet many write pris.

在复合时态中,当直接宾语前置时与 avoir 的配合是一个持久挑战:La décision que j’ai prise 中的过去分词必须与 décision 的性和数一致,但很多人写成 pris。

7. Relative Pronouns: qui, que, dont, lequel | 关系代词:qui、que、dont、lequel 的区分

Qui and que are often mixed up. Qui serves as the subject of the relative clause: La femme qui parle est ma tante. Que is the direct object: La femme que tu vois est ma tante. A simple test is to check whether a subject follows the relative pronoun; if yes, you need que. If a verb follows directly, qui is correct.

Qui 和 que 经常被混淆。Qui 是关系从句中的主语:La femme qui parle est ma tante. Que 是直接宾语:La femme que tu vois est ma tante. 一个简单的测试是看关系代词后面是否紧跟着主语;如果是,就需要用 que。如果后面直接跟动词,就用 qui。

Dont replaces complements introduced by de and often trips up learners. Instead of saying Le livre dont j’ai besoin, many incorrectly produce Le livre que j’ai besoin de. The structure with dont is more elegant and obligatory in formal French. When the complement de is part of a prepositional phrase with a noun, dont can be used if the verbal construction includes de, but otherwise it is common to use duquel, de laquelle, etc. after a preposition: La maison à côté de laquelle je passe.

Dont 代替由 de 引导的补语,常常让学习者摔跤。许多人错误地说 Le livre que j’ai besoin de,而不是正确的 Le livre dont j’ai besoin。在正式法语中,dont 结构更为典雅且是必须的。当 de 属于一个带名词的介词短语时,若动词结构包含 de,可用 dont,否则在介词后通常使用 duquel, de laquelle 等形式:La maison à côté de laquelle je passe。

8. Conditional and Si Clauses: Tense Agreement | 条件式与 si 从句的时态搭配

Si clause sequencing is a formulaic area where precision pays. The three classic patterns are regularly broken. The first pattern, si + présent → futur simple (Si tu viens, je serai content), is sometimes replaced with the conditional in the subordinate clause, which is ungrammatical in French. The second, si + imparfait → conditionnel présent (Si j’avais de l’argent, j’achèterais une voiture), is frequently mistaken with the third, si + plus-que-parfait → conditionnel passé (Si j’avais su, je serais venu).

Si 从句的搭配是有章可循的领域,精准使用就能得分。三种经典模式经常被打破。第一种,si + présent → futur simple(Si tu viens, je serai content),有时会在从句中误用条件式,这在法语中是不合语法的。第二种,si + imparfait → conditionnel présent(Si j’avais de l’argent, j’achèterais une voiture),常与第三种混淆,即 si + plus-que-parfait → conditionnel passé(Si j’avais su, je serais venu)。

A subtle difficulty is mixing the conditional and the future in the same sentence, especially in reported speech and hypothetical writing. Students might write Si je gagnerais au loto, je voyagerais, which should be Si je gagnais au loto, je voyagerais. Double-checking that the si clause never contains the conditional tense can eliminate half the errors.

一个微妙的难点是在同一个句子中尤其于间接引语和假设性写作中混淆条件式和将来时。学生可能写 Si je gagnerais au loto, je voyagerais,正确应为 Si je gagnais au loto, je voyagerais。只要确保 si 从句中永不出现条件式,就能消除一半的错误。

9. Negation Nuances: ne…pas and the Forgotten ne | 否定结构的细微之处:ne…pas 与被遗忘的 ne

In spoken and informal written French, the ne is often dropped, but Pre-U examinations demand full written negation. A common mistake is writing Je sais pas instead of Je ne sais pas. Moreover, certain complex negations such as ne…jamais, ne…plus, ne…rien, ne…personne must follow their specific word order, with personne often situated after the past participle or at the end of the clause: Je n’ai vu personne.

在口语和非正式书面语中,ne 经常被省略,但 Pre-U 考试要求完整的书面否定。常见错误是写 Je sais pas 而非 Je ne sais pas。此外,某些复杂否定如 ne…jamais, ne…plus, ne…rien, ne…personne 必须遵循特定的词序,其中 personne 常置于过去分词之后或句末:Je n’ai vu personne.

The restrictive ne…que (meaning “only”) is another point of failure. It wraps around the verb, not the noun, so Je n’ai que deux euros is correct, not J’ai ne que deux euros. Also, the half-negation ne… without a second element appears in literary contexts (the ne explétif) after verbs of fearing, doubt, or preventing, such as Je crains qu’il ne vienne. Using the full ne…pas here changes the meaning to “I am afraid he is not coming.”

表示“仅仅”的限制性 ne…que 是另一个易错点。它包围的是动词,而不是名词,因此 Je n’ai que deux euros 正确,而不是 J’ai ne que deux euros。此外,不带第二成分的 ne(赘词 ne)出现在文学作品中的表示害怕、怀疑或阻止的动词之后,如 Je crains qu’il ne vienne。此处若用完整的 ne…pas,意思就会变为“我怕他不来”。

10. The Adverbial Pronouns en and y | 副代词 en 和 y 的用法

En and y are two tiny words that generate disproportionate errors. En replaces phrases introduced by de, partitive articles, and expressions of quantity: Tu veux du fromage ? Oui, j’en veux. Y replaces phrases introduced by à (or other prepositions of location) that refer to inanimate objects or places: Tu vas à Paris ? Oui, j’y vais.

En 和 y 是两个小词,却会引发不成比例的错误。En 替代由 de 引导的短语、部分冠词和数量表达:Tu veux du fromage ? Oui, j’en veux. Y 替代由 à(或其他地点介词)引导的、指代无生命事物或地点的短语:Tu vas à Paris ? Oui, j’y vais.

A frequent mistake is using y or en to refer to people. While colloquial French sometimes extends y to people, standard academic French requires the use of a disjunctive pronoun after à instead: Je pense à lui, not J’y pense (although J’y pense is acceptable for things like Je pense à la solution). The boundary is subtle: penser à un ami should be Je pense à lui, but penser à une idée becomes J’y pense.

一个常见错误是用 y 或 en 指代人。虽然口语中有时会将 y 延伸用于人,但标准学术法语要求在 à 后用重读人称代词:Je pense à lui,而不是 J’y pense(不过 J’y pense 对于 Je pense à la solution 这类情况是可以接受的)。这个界限很微妙:penser à un ami 应说 Je pense à lui,但 penser à une idée 则变成 J’y pense。

Placement of y and en in compound tenses and with infinitives also requires attention. They always precede the verb they complement, and in the passé composé, they sit before the auxiliary: J’y suis allé, Je n’en ai pas mangé.

Y 和 en 在复合时态及与不定式连用时的位置也需要注意。它们永远位于所修饰的动词之前,在 passé composé 中置于助动词前:J’y suis allé,Je n’en ai pas mangé。
