In IGCSE CCEA Physical Education, students often lose marks not because they cannot recall facts, but because they hold onto everyday myths about training, physiology, and recovery. This article identifies eleven common misconceptions and gives the correct principles you should apply in exam answers and practical performance.

A common myth is that exercising at the highest possible heart rate produces the greatest fitness gains. In reality, the cardiovascular system improves most effectively when you train within a target heart rate zone, usually around 60-85% of your estimated maximum heart rate (220 – age). Working above this zone too often can lead to early fatigue, poor technique and increased injury risk without extra aerobic benefit.
