Winter break is one of the most valuable periods in the IGCSE CAIE Art & Design course because it gives you uninterrupted time to build evidence across all four assessment objectives. A focused holiday plan can turn a scattered portfolio into a coherent, well-supported submission for Component 1 coursework and Component 2 externally set assignment.

The Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design (0400) syllabus assesses four objectives: AO1 Record, AO2 Explore, AO3 Develop and AO4 Present. Every studio session in your winter plan should be linked to at least one AO so your evidence stays balanced.

2. Audit Your Portfolio | 盘点作品集
Before making new work, spread out all current pieces, sketchbooks, test sheets and digital photographs. Identify gaps against the assessment objectives. For example, you may have many observational drawings (AO1) but few experimental media tests (AO2) or weak idea development pages (AO3).

A winter holiday schedule works best when it is realistic. Divide the break into three or four weekly blocks. Begin with diagnosis, move through skill-building and experimentation, then end with refinement and timed practice. Keep sessions focused: two or three 90-minute blocks are usually better than one long sitting.

AO1 rewards direct observation, so draw from real objects, not only from phone screens. Choose subjects with varied texture and structure: crumpled paper, fruit, shells, hands, shoes and interiors. Use a range of graphite, charcoal, pen and ink to show line quality, tone and form.
