The Cambridge IGCSE Music practical assessment is not a laboratory experiment. It is the coursework side of the syllabus: performing and composing. These two components together account for 60% of the final grade, so they are just as important as the listening paper.

1. Overview of the Practical Components | 实践部分总览
The practical assessment under CAIE IGCSE Music 0410 consists of Component 2 Performing and Component 3 Composing. You must submit recorded evidence and written scores or annotations for each task.

Do not treat the practical components as “easy marks”. They require consistent rehearsal, recording and documentation.

3. Performing: Repertoire Selection | 演奏：曲目选择
Choose pieces that show your technical control and musical understanding. A very difficult piece performed with many errors usually scores lower than a slightly easier piece played securely and expressively.

You need contrast across the two performances: different tempo, mood, period or style. This makes the evidence more convincing and shows a wider range.

- Make sure you can perform both pieces within the time limit.

4. Solo Performance Requirements | 独奏要求
The solo performance must be one continuous recording with no edits. It should be accompanied where the piece requires accompaniment, and the balance must be clear.

You may play any instrument or voice. Technical accuracy, intonation, rhythm, fluency, tone and interpretation are all assessed.

Record the whole performance from start to finish, including any silence before and after. Do not cut out mistakes or splice takes.

You must be identifiable in the recording. The examiner needs to hear your part and assess how you interact with the other players.

Label every file clearly with your name, candidate number, component and piece title. Keep a backup copy in a safe place.
