📚 Conclusions and Discussion: Drawing Evidence-Based Conclusions in A-Level Biology | 结论与讨论:A-Level 生物中基于证据得出结论

In Cambridge International A-Level Biology, the conclusion and discussion section is where you demonstrate scientific thinking: answering the aim, judging whether the data support the hypothesis, explaining findings through biological mechanisms, and evaluating the strength of the evidence.

1. What Examiners Expect from a Conclusion |

A conclusion must be a clear statement that directly answers the aim or hypothesis. It should state the relationship between the independent and dependent variables, the direction of that relationship, and the key numerical support.

For example, in an investigation of temperature and membrane permeability, avoid writing “the results were recorded”. Instead write: “As temperature increased from 20 °C to 60 °C, the absorbance of the surrounding solution increased from 0.12 to 0.68, showing that membrane permeability increased with temperature.”

2. Distinguishing Results from Conclusions |

Results are the processed data, such as means, standard deviations or calculated rates. Conclusions are interpretations of those results in relation to the biological question.
