Urban form refers to the physical layout and design of a city, including the arrangement of streets, buildings, land uses and open spaces. In Edexcel A-Level Geography, understanding urban forms means examining how cities grow, why they display different spatial patterns, and how planning and socio-economic forces reshape them over time.

London provides a rich case study of changing urban form. In the nineteenth century, London grew rapidly along railway lines and industrial corridors, creating a pattern similar to Hoyt’s sectors.
