IELTS One Skill Retake Eligibility: Full Computer Test + Test Report Form |

📚 IELTS One Skill Retake Eligibility: Full Computer Test + Test Report Form |

IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) lets a candidate who has already sat a full IELTS on computer test resit just one of the four skills instead of repeating Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. It sounds simple, but the eligibility rules are strict: you must have completed a full computer-delivered test and you must have already received your Test Report Form (TRF) before you can book. This guide explains every condition, the 60-day booking window, the one-skill limit, what is excluded, how the new TRF works, and how to check your own eligibility in under five minutes.

1. What Is IELTS One Skill Retake? |

IELTS One Skill Retake is an official IELTS service that allows an eligible candidate to retake one skill only – Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking – after a full IELTS on computer test. The candidate sits a real, full-length version of that single skill test under live exam conditions, and the new score for that skill replaces the old one. The other three scores stay exactly as they were.

It is important to understand that OSR is not a remark, not an Enquiry on Results (EOR), and not an appeal. An EOR asks a senior examiner to re-mark the scripts you already produced. An OSR requires you to produce a completely new performance on a new test date. The score you receive is a fresh score, not a corrected version of the old one.

• A real test, not a review: You sit the full skill test again with new questions and a new examiner or new scripts. |
• One skill only: You choose exactly one of the four skills per OSR booking. |
• Scores carried over: The three skills you do not retake keep the scores from your original full test. |

2. The Core Eligibility Conditions at a Glance |

Before looking at the details, it helps to see the whole rule set on one screen. There are four hard conditions and two practical conditions. If any one of the hard conditions fails, you cannot book a One Skill Retake at all.

The original test must have been IELTS on computer (Academic or General Training).
All four skills must have been sat in one full test.
Your Test Report Form must have been issued to you.
Book within 60 days of your original test date.
One OSR per test | 每次全考限一次	Only one One Skill Retake per full test sitting.
The service must be offered in your country and centre.

Availability is genuinely different from country to country, and even between centres inside the same country. Always confirm with your local IELTS test centre or the official IELTS website before you plan anything around an OSR.

3. Condition One: You Must Have Taken a Full Computer-Delivered Test |

The first condition is about the format of your original test. IELTS One Skill Retake only exists for IELTS on computer. The original sitting must have been a complete computer-delivered test in which you attempted all four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

Both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are normally eligible, and in many locations IELTS for UKVI on computer is also eligible. What matters is that all four skills were assessed in one continuous test event and a single result set was produced.

• Full means full: If you registered for all four skills but did not attend one of them, you do not have a complete result set. | 「
• One sitting, one result: Scores must come from a single test event, not pieced together from different dates. |
• Speaking counts: Your Speaking test, whether face-to-face or by video call, must have been completed. |

A frequent misunderstanding is that a candidate can take Listening on one date and the rest later, then apply for an OSR. This is not how IELTS works. The four skills of one test event form one indivisible result, and the OSR is built on top of that single result.

4. Condition Two: You Must Have Received Your Test Report Form |

The second hard condition is that your Test Report Form has already been issued and delivered. In practice this means your results have been released and you can see your four skill scores plus your overall band score. You cannot book an OSR while your results are still pending.

This condition exists for a logical reason. To choose which skill to retake, you need to know which score is holding your overall band back. To prove you sat a full test, the centre needs a released result record linked to your candidate profile. And to issue the final new TRF, the system needs the three original scores to combine with the new one.

• Electronic results count: A result released online through your IELTS account is still a released result. |
• Paper TRF: If you received a paper TRF, keep it safe – you may need the details when booking. |
• No results, no booking: Waiting for results is not a queue you can join early. |

5. The 60-Day Booking Window Explained | 60

Once your TRF is in hand, the clock is already running. The booking deadline is measured from your original test date, not from the date your results were released. You must book your One Skill Retake within 60 days of the original test date.

Because computer-delivered results are usually released within a few days of the test, most candidates have roughly eight weeks of booking time. That sounds generous, but it disappears quickly once you factor in preparation, available test dates, and the fact that popular Speaking slots fill up early.

Day 0 | 第 0 天	You sit the full IELTS on computer test.
Day 2-5 | 第 2-5 天	Results released; TRF becomes available.
Day 0-60 | 第 0-60 天	Booking window for the One Skill Retake.
After Day 60 | 第 60 天之后	OSR no longer available for that test; a new full test is required.

If you miss the window, there is no extension and no appeal. The only route back is to register for a brand new full IELTS test.

6. One Skill, One Retake: How the Limit Works |

An OSR booking covers exactly one skill. You cannot select two skills in a single booking, and you cannot split the fee across two skills. If your Writing and Speaking are both weak, you must decide which single skill gives you the greatest return.

There is a second layer to the limit: you may use only one One Skill Retake per full test. Once you have used it, that original full test cannot generate another OSR. If you improve but still fall short, the next step is a new full test.

• No stacking: You cannot take one OSR for Writing and later another OSR for Speaking from the same full test. |
• One new score, one new TRF: Each OSR produces one new TRF featuring the updated skill score. |
• Choose strategically: Compare the score gap and the difficulty of improvement for each skill before booking. |

A practical rule of thumb: if the overall band is blocked by 0.5 in one skill and 1.5 in another, retaking the skill with the smaller gap is usually the more efficient choice.

7. What Is Out of Scope: Paper Tests, Life Skills and Other Products |

One Skill Retake is tied to computer-delivered IELTS. Candidates who sat the paper-based test are not eligible, no matter how recent their result is. This is the single most common reason a candidate is told “no” at the booking stage.

Other IELTS-family products sit outside OSR as well. IELTS Life Skills, which assesses Speaking and Listening for visa purposes at A1, A2 and B1 levels, has its own separate rules and is not part of the OSR framework. Home-based IELTS Online availability should also be confirmed locally, as it is a distinct delivery channel.

• Paper-based test: Not eligible – full stop. |
• IELTS Life Skills: A separate product with separate retake rules. |
• Preparatory or mock tests: Practice tests, school mocks and online simulations never create OSR eligibility. |
• Partial attendance: A full test with a missing skill is not a full test. |

If your original test was paper-based and you now want single-skill flexibility, the practical route is to sit a full IELTS on computer test first, receive the TRF, and then decide whether an OSR fits your timeline.

8. How to Book: Step by Step |

Booking an OSR is done through your IELTS account or the online portal of your test centre. The process is short, but each step depends on the previous one being complete, so do not skip ahead.

Step 1: Log in and confirm that your full computer-delivered test result is showing with all four skill scores. Step 2: Check the original test date and calculate the 60-day deadline.
