ESL英语 English as Second Language

IGCSE: English – First Language

Cambridge IGCSE First Language English is built for native speakers who want to communicate with clarity, precision, and impact in both writing and speech. You’ll build a rich vocabulary, polish your grammar and punctuation, and shape a personal style attuned to different audiences. Along the way, regular reading—both for enjoyment and to explore how English works in practice—is strongly encouraged. The course also sharpens broader analytical skills like synthesis, inference, and the ability to organise facts and present opinions persuasively.

This syllabus invites students to read, interpret, and evaluate literary works. Learners uncover literal meanings, appreciate contextual layers, and delve into deeper themes or attitudes. They explore how writers use language to create particular effects and learn to express informed, personal responses. Beyond textual analysis, the course opens up wider, universal issues, helping learners understand themselves and the world around them more fully.
