In this course, students immerse themselves in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through close engagement with carefully chosen texts, they come to appreciate the many ways writers craft language to both convey meaning and give pleasure. Along the way, they examine a work’s structure, style, and themes, as well as finer details like figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.
