Everything around you is made up of tiny particles. The particle model helps explain how solids, liquids and gases behave. 1. The Particle Model | 粒子模型

All substances are made of particles. The particle model describes how these particles are arranged and move in solids, liquids and gases. The particles themselves are the same; only their arrangement and motion change when a substance changes state.

The model simplifies particles as small, hard, incompressible spheres, with no forces between them except during brief collisions. This allows us to explain density, compressibility and changes of state, but it cannot explain all properties of matter.

2. Solids: Arrangement and Motion | 固体:排列与运动

In a solid, particles are packed closely together in a fixed, regular pattern. They are held by strong forces, so they can only vibrate about fixed positions. Solids have a definite shape and volume, and they cannot be compressed because there is very little space between the particles.
