1. Getting Started: Cognates and False Friends | 入门:同源词与假朋友

The easiest way to boost your French vocabulary instantly is to recognise cognates – words that look and mean the same as their English equivalents. French and English share thousands of these, such as table, music, animal and important. However, be careful with faux amis (false friends), which are words that look familiar but have a completely different meaning.

快速扩大法语词汇量最简单的方法就是辨认同源词,即那些拼写与含义都和英语相同的词。法语和英语共用数千个这样的词,例如 table(桌子)、music(音乐)、animal(动物)和 important(重要的)。但要小心 假朋友,这些词看起来眼熟,意思却完全不同。

Memorise a handful of reliable cognates and keep a personal list of false friends. For example, ‘librairie’ means bookshop, not library; ‘pain’ means bread, not physical discomfort; and ‘actuellement’ translates as ‘currently’, never as ‘actually’. This awareness will save you from embarrassing mistakes and help you decode new texts faster.

记住一些可靠的同源词,并建立自己的假朋友清单。例如,’librairie’ 是书店而不是图书馆;’pain’ 是面包而不是痛苦;’actuellement’ 表示“目前”,绝非“实际上”。这种警惕能让你避免尴尬的错误,并帮助你更快地解读新课文。

French English meaning
la table (cognate) table
la musique (cognate) music
la librairie (false friend) bookshop
le pain (false friend) bread
actuellement (false friend) currently

2. Numbers 1-31: Your Foundation | 数字 1-31:你的基础

Numbers are vital for telling the time, giving your age and talking about dates. Start with 1-10, then learn the patterns for 11-20, and finally master 21-31. Pay attention to the unique spellings of 11 (onze), 12 (douze), 13 (treize), 14 (quatorze), 15 (quinze) and 16 (seize), as they do not follow a simple rule.

数字对于表达时间、年龄和日期至关重要。先掌握 1-10,再学习 11-20 的规律,最后攻克 21-31。请注意 11 (onze)、12 (douze)、13 (treize)、14 (quatorze)、15 (quinze) 和 16 (seize) 的特殊拼写,它们并不完全遵循简单规则。

From 17 onwards, you can use a helpful pattern: 17 = dix-sept (ten-seven), 18 = dix-huit, 19 = dix-neuf. For 21, 31 etc., say vingt et un, trente et un with the word ‘et’ (and), but for 22-29 and 32-39 use a hyphen: vingt-deux, trente-cinq. Learn to hear the difference between ‘quatre’ (4) and ‘quatorze’ (14).

从 17 开始可以使用一个有用的公式:17 = dix-sept(十-七),18 = dix-huit,19 = dix-neuf。21、31 等需要加 ‘et’:vingt et untrente et un,而 22-29 和 32-39 要用连字符:vingt-deuxtrente-cinq。仔细分辨 ‘quatre’ (4) 与 ‘quatorze’ (14) 的发音区别。

3. Days, Months and Dates | 星期、月份与日期

The days of the week are all masculine and are not capitalised in French: lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi, dimanche. Months are also lower case: janvier, février, mars, avril, mai, juin, juillet, août, septembre, octobre, novembre, décembre. To say the date, use ‘le’ + number + month, e.g. le trois mars (the third of March).

星期几在法语中均为阳性,且不需要大写:lundi(星期一)、mardi、mercredi、jeudi、vendredi、samedi、dimanche。月份同样用小写:janvier(一月)、février、mars、avril、mai、juin、juillet、août、septembre、octobre、novembre、décembre。表达日期时使用 ‘le’ + 数字 + 月份,如 le trois mars(三月三日)。

A quick way to anchor these words is to chant them to a familiar tune. Attach colours or images to each day – for instance, imagine lundi as a yellow moon (lune), vendredi as a red sale tag (vendredi sounds like ‘vendredi’, not similar but you can invent your own link). Use them actively by writing today’s date on your notes every day.

快速记住这些词的方法之一是把它们编成顺口溜,配上熟悉的旋律。还可以给每一天配上颜色或图像,比如想象 lundi 是一轮黄色月亮(lune),vendredi 是一片红色打折标签。每天在笔记本上写下当天日期,积极使用这些词,效果会更好。

4. Classroom Objects | 教室物品

Being able to name everyday school items makes you feel more confident in the classroom. Key masculine nouns (use un) include un stylo (pen), un crayon (pencil), un cahier (exercise book), un sac (bag), un livre (book). Feminine ones (use une) are une trousse (pencil case), une gomme (rubber), une règle (ruler), une chaise (chair) and une table (table).

能够说出日常教室用品的名称会让你在课堂中更加自信。阳性名词(用 un)例如 un stylo(笔)、un crayon(铅笔)、un cahier(练习本)、un sac(书包)、un livre(书)。阴性名词(用 une)有 une trousse(铅笔盒)、une gomme(橡皮)、une règle(直尺)、une chaise(椅子)和 une table(桌子)。

Always learn the article with the noun – it tells you the gender. A helpful trick: colour-code your flashcards, e.g. blue for masculine nouns and pink for feminine. Practise by saying ‘Dans ma trousse, j’ai un stylo bleu et une gomme verte’ (In my pencil case I have a blue pen and a green rubber).

学习名词时一定要连同冠词一起记忆,因为它表明了阴阳性。一个有用的窍门是用颜色编码你的单词卡,比如蓝色代表阳性名词,粉色代表阴性名词。练习时可以造句:’Dans ma trousse, j’ai un stylo bleu et une gomme verte’(在我的铅笔盒里,我有一支蓝色的笔和一块绿色的橡皮)。

Masculine Feminine
un stylo une trousse
un crayon une gomme
un cahier une règle
un sac une chaise
un livre une table

5. Colours and Descriptions | 颜色与描述

Colours are adjectives and usually come after the noun in French. Most colours have a masculine and feminine form: bleu/bleue (blue), vert/verte (green), noir/noire (black), blanc/blanche (white), violet/violette (purple). Some are invariable: rouge (red), jaune (yellow), rose (pink), orange (orange), marron (brown).

颜色是形容词,在法语中通常放在名词之后。大多数颜色有阴阳性变化:bleu/bleue(蓝色)、vert/verte(绿色)、noir/noire(黑色)、blanc/blanche(白色)、violet/violette(紫色)。还有一些是不变的:rouge(红色)、jaune(黄色)、rose(粉色)、orange(橙色)、marron(棕色)。

Size adjectives also need to agree: grand/grande (big, tall), petit/petite (small, short). Put together, you can describe your classroom items: ‘un grand cahier vert’, ‘une petite règle jaune’. To memorise, create a colour poster at home and label items around you.

大小形容词也需要配合:grand/grande(大的、高的)、petit/petite(小的、矮的)。组合起来就可以描述教室物品:’un grand cahier vert’(一本大的绿色练习本),’une petite règle jaune’(一把小的黄色直尺)。想要记住它们,可以在家里制作一张颜色海报,并给身边的物品贴上法语标签。
