1. Noun Gender and Definite & Indefinite Articles | 名词的性与定冠词、不定冠词

Every Spanish noun is either masculine or feminine, and this affects which article you use. Masculine nouns usually end in -o (el libro) and feminine nouns often end in -a (la casa). The definite articles are el (masculine singular) and la (feminine singular), while the indefinite articles are un and una. A common mistake is mixing them up with nouns that break the -o/-a pattern, such as el día (masculine despite ending in -a) or la mano (feminine despite ending in -o). Always learn the article together with the noun: el problema, la foto, el mapa.

每个西班牙语名词都有阴阳性,这会影响你使用哪个冠词。阳性名词通常以 -o 结尾(el libro),阴性名词常以 -a 结尾(la casa)。定冠词是 el(阳性单数)和 la(阴性单数),不定冠词是 un 和 una。一个常见错误是混淆那些不符合 -o/-a 规律的词,比如 el día(尽管以 -a 结尾却是阳性)或 la mano(尽管以 -o 结尾却是阴性)。养成把冠词和名词一起记忆的习惯:el problema、la foto、el mapa。

  • el chico / la chica – the boy / the girl

    男孩 / 女孩

  • un amigo / una amiga – a friend (male/female)

    一个男性朋友 / 一个女性朋友

  • Watch out for: el agua (feminine noun but takes el in singular to avoid two stressed a’s together, still feminine: el agua fría).

    小心:el agua(阴性名词,但单数为避免两个重读 a 相撞而用 el,形容词仍用阴性:el agua fría 凉水)。

2. Adjective Agreement and Position | 形容词的性与数配合及位置

In Spanish, adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they describe. Most adjectives change their ending: -o for masculine, -a for feminine, and add -s or -es for plurals. For example, un libro interesante, una clase interesante, unos libros interesantes, unas clases interesantes. Many Year 7 students forget to make the adjective match, especially when the noun is feminine or plural. Also, unlike English, descriptive adjectives usually go after the noun: la casa blanca, not la blanca casa. However, certain short and common adjectives (bueno, malo, grande, pequeño, mucho, poco) often come before the noun: una buena idea.

Common mistake: ‘He is tall’ = Él es alto, not Él es alta. Mi hermana es simpática, not simpático. In writing assessments, check every adjective’s ending matches the noun it refers to.

常见错误:’他很高’ 是 Él es alto,不是 Él es alta。Mi hermana es simpática(我姐姐很友好),不是 simpático。在写作评估时,检查每一个形容词的词尾是否与它所指的名词一致。

3. Ser vs Estar: When to Use Which | Ser 与 Estar 的用法区别

Both ser and estar mean ‘to be’, but they are not interchangeable. Ser is used for permanent or defining characteristics: identity, origin, physical description, personality, time and date (soy inglés, es alto, son las tres). Estar is used for temporary states, locations, and conditions (estoy cansado, está en la cocina, estamos contentos). One classic Year 7 mistake is using ser for location. Remember: where someone or something is located takes estar, even for buildings. La escuela está cerca del parque, not es cerca del parque. Another trap: describing food. ‘It is tasty’ – está rico (temporary perception), but ‘it is delicious in general’ – es delicioso (characteristic).

它很好吃’ – está rico(暂时的品尝感受),但 ‘它通常是美味的’ – es delicioso(特点)。

A helpful rhyme: ‘How you feel and where you are, always use the verb estar.’ For who you are and what things are like in essence, choose ser.

助记口诀:’感觉如何、身在何处,永远要用 estar。’ 关于你是谁、事物本质,则选 ser。

4. Hay and Tener to Express Existence and Possession | 用 Hay 和 Tener 表达存在与拥有

Hay comes from the verb haber and means ‘there is’ or ‘there are’. It does not change for singular or plural: Hay un perro en el jardín (There is a dog), Hay muchos libros (There are many books). Students sometimes try to make it agree with the noun, but hay is invariable. Tener means ‘to have’ and is used to talk about possession, age, and certain states (tengo sed, tengo 12 años). Do not confuse tener with ‘to be’ in English: ‘I am hungry’ is tengo hambre, not soy hambre. ‘She is cold’ is tiene frío. These tener expressions are high-frequency in WJEC speaking and writing tasks.

Hay 来自动词 haber,意思是“有”(存在)。它不分单复数:Hay un perro en el jardín(花园里有一只狗),Hay muchos libros(有很多书)。学生有时会试图让 hay 随名词变化,但 hay 是不变形式。Tener 意思是“拥有”,用来谈论拥有、年龄和某些状态(tengo sed 我口渴,tengo 12 años 我 12 岁)。不要把 tener 和英语中的 ‘to be’ 混淆:’我饿了’ 是 tengo hambre,不是 soy hambre。’她冷’ 是 tiene frío。这些 tener 固定搭配在 WJEC 口语和写作任务中非常高频。

  • Hay + noun: Hay una piscina. No hay problema.

    有 + 名词:有一个游泳池。没问题。

  • Tener + noun: tener razón (to be right), tener prisa (to be in a hurry).

    Tener + 名词:有道理,匆忙。

5. Regular Present Tense Conjugation | 规则动词的现在时变位

The present tense is the workhorse of Year 7. You need to confidently conjugate -AR, -ER and -IR verbs. The patterns are: -AR (hablar: hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos, habláis, hablan), -ER (comer: como, comes, come, comemos, coméis, comen), -IR (vivir: vivo, vives, vive, vivimos, vivís, viven). Many students struggle with the accent on vosotros form (habláis, coméis, vivís) or forget to drop the -ar/-er/-ir before adding endings. A classic slip: mixing up the -er and -ir endings for nosotros (comemos vs vivimos). Practise the rhythm of the endings until they become automatic. Also watch out for verbs that are regular in present but have spelling changes to keep sound consistent, like jugar (juego, juegas…) and sacar (saco, sacas…).

现在时是七年级的“主力时态”。你需要熟练掌握 -AR、-ER、-IR 动词的变位。规则是:-AR(hablar:hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos, habláis, hablan),-ER(comer:como, comes, come, comemos, coméis, comen),-IR(vivir:vivo, vives, vive, vivimos, vivís, viven)。许多学生会在 vosotros 形式的重音上出错(habláis, coméis, vivís),或者忘了去掉 -ar/-er/-ir 就直接加词尾。一个经典错误是把 -er 和 -ir 的 nosotros 形式搞混(comemos 对比 vivimos)。反复练习词尾的节奏直到形成肌肉记忆。还要留意那些现在时变位看似规则但为保持发音一致而拼写变化的动词,比如 jugar(juego, juegas…)和 sacar(saco, sacas…)。

Always identify the infinitive first, remove the ending, then add the correct person ending. For example, ‘I read’ = leer → leo, not leero.

一定要先识别动词原形,去掉词尾,再加上正确的人称词尾。比如,“我读” = leer → leo,不是 leero。

6. High-Frequency Irregular Verbs: ir, hacer, ser, tener, estar | 高频不规则动词:ir, hacer, ser, tener, estar

These five verbs appear constantly in every topic. Their present tense forms must be memorised exactly. Ir: voy, vas, va, vamos, vais, van. Hacer: hago, haces, hace, hacemos, hacéis, hacen. Ser: soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son. Tener: tengo, tienes, tiene, tenemos, tenéis, tienen. Estar: estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están. A common mistake is mixing up somos (we are) and son (they/you all are), or writing tengo instead of tienes when asking questions. Also, ‘I go’ is voy, not iro. Remember that yo forms of -go verbs (hago, tengo, salgo) do not have a following -o: hago, not hago-o. Drill these with flashcards until you can produce them instantly.

这五个动词在每个话题中都反复出现。它们的现在时形式必须准确记忆。Ir:voy, vas, va, vamos, vais, van。Hacer:hago, haces, hace, hacemos, hacéis, hacen。Ser:soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son。Tener:tengo, tienes, tiene, tenemos, tenéis, tienen。Estar:estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están。一个常见错误是混淆 somos(我们是)和 son(他们/你们是),或者在问句里把 tengo 和 tienes 写反。还有,“我去” 是 voy,不是 iro。记住以 -go 结尾的 yo 形式(hago, tengo, salgo)后面不再加 -o:是 hago,不是 hago-o。用闪卡反复操练,直到能瞬间反应。

Tip: To ask ‘Do you have…?’ use tienes, not tengo. ¿Tienes un lápiz? (Do you have a pencil?).

小贴士:问“你有……吗?”用 tienes,不是 tengo。¿Tienes un lápiz?(你有铅笔吗?)。

7. Question Words and Word Order | 疑问词与疑问句语序

Forming questions correctly is essential for the speaking exam and comprehension tasks. Key question words: ¿Qué? (What?), ¿Quién? (Who?), ¿Cómo? (How?), ¿Cuándo? (When?), ¿Dónde? (Where?), ¿Por qué? (Why?), ¿Cuántos/as? (How many?), ¿Cuál? (Which?). In Spanish, you don’t need to invert subject and verb as strictly as in English, but you can place the verb before the subject naturally: ¿Dónde está el baño? Students often forget the inverted question mark at the start. ¿Por qué? (why) is two words and has an accent on qué, while porque (because) is one word without accent. Cuánto agrees in gender and number: ¿Cuánto dinero?, ¿Cuántas personas?.

Practice: Turn simple statements into questions. Tengo un perro → ¿Tienes un perro? Notice how the verb changes person.

练习:把简单陈述句变为问句。Tengo un perro(我有一只狗)→ ¿Tienes un perro?(你有一只狗吗?)注意动词人称的变化。

8. Numbers, Time and Dates | 数字、时间和日期

Numbers 1-100 are foundational. Pay extra attention to veinte (20), treinta (30), cuarenta (40), cincuenta (50), sesenta (60), setenta (70), ochenta (80), noventa (90), cien (100). Combining tens and units: veintiuno (21), veintidós (22), treinta y uno (31), etc. For time, use ‘Es la una’ for 1:00 and ‘Son las…’ for all other hours. Quarter past is ‘y cuarto’, half past is ‘y media’, quarter to is ‘menos cuarto’. Days of the week are not capitalised: lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. When saying ‘on Monday’, use ‘el lunes’. Months: enero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo, junio, julio, agosto, septiembre, octubre, noviembre, diciembre. Dates: ‘el cinco de mayo’.

月份:enero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo, junio, julio, agosto, septiembre, octubre, noviembre, diciembre。日期表达:’el cinco de mayo’(五月五日)。

Watch out: Es la una y media (1:30), not Son las una y media. And ‘in July’ is en julio, not en el julio.

注意:1:30 说 Es la una y media,不是 Son las una y media。’在七月’ 是 en julio,不是 en el julio。

9. Describing Family and Possessive Adjectives | 描述家庭与物主形容词

Family vocabulary (la madre, el padre, el hermano, la hermana, el abuelo, la abuela) is a must-know. Possessive adjectives show ownership: mi/mis (my), tu/tus (your), su/sus (his, her, their, your formal), nuestro/nuestra/nuestros/nuestras (our), vuestro/vuestra/vuestros/vuestras (your plural informal). They agree with the noun they modify, not the owner. So ‘my house’ is mi casa (feminine noun), ‘my book’ is mi libro. With plural nouns: mis libros. Students often confuse su and sus, forgetting to make the adjective plural. Also, in Spanish you don’t use ‘de’ + pronoun for possession like in English (‘the car of my dad’); instead say el coche de mi padre. But with body parts and clothing, the definite article is often used instead of possessive: Me duele la cabeza (My head hurts).

家庭词汇(la madre 母亲,el padre 父亲,el hermano 兄弟,la hermana 姐妹,el abuelo 祖父,la abuela 祖母)是必知内容。物主形容词表示所属:mi/mis(我的),tu/tus(你的),su/sus(他/她/他们/您/您的),nuestro/nuestra/nuestros/nuestras(我们的),vuestro/vuestra/vuestros/vuestras(你们的口语复数)。它们要与所修饰的名词保持性数一致,而不是与所有者。所以 ‘我的房子’ 是 mi casa(阴性名词),’我的书’ 是 mi libro。复数名词:mis libros。学生常混淆 su 和 sus,忘记让形容词变为复数。另外,西班牙语不用 ‘de’ + 代词来表示从属(如英语的 ‘the car of my dad’);而是说 el coche de mi padre。但身体部位和衣物常用定冠词代替物主形容词:Me duele la cabeza(我头疼)。

Quick check: ‘Our parents’ = nuestros padres (masculine plural noun), not nuestras padres. ‘Her brothers’ = sus hermanos.

快速检查:’我们的父母’ = nuestros padres(阳性复数名词),不是 nuestras padres。’她的兄弟们’ = sus hermanos。

10. Verbs like Gustar: A Different Structure | 类似 Gustar 的动词特殊结构

Gustar does not mean ‘to like’ literally but rather ‘to be pleasing to’. The subject in Spanish is the thing liked, not the person. So you say: Me gusta el chocolate (I like chocolate, literally ‘chocolate is pleasing to me’). Me gustan los perros (I like dogs, ‘dogs are pleasing to me’). Students often write ‘Yo gusto’ which is wrong. Instead, use indirect object pronouns: me, te, le, nos, os, les plus gusta (singular) or gustan (plural). Also, when you like doing an activity, use gusta + infinitive: Me gusta bailar. Never conjugate the infinitive: Me gusta leer, not me gusta leo. Other verbs that work the same way: encantar (to love), interesar (to interest), doler (to hurt – me duele la cabeza). This structure is a common exam pitfall.

Gustar 的字面意思不是“喜欢”,而是“使……喜欢”。西班牙语里的主语是被喜欢的事物,而不是人。所以你说:Me gusta el chocolate(我喜欢巧克力,字面义“巧克力使我愉悦”)。Me gustan los perros(我喜欢狗,“狗使我愉悦”)。学生常错误地写出 ‘Yo gusto’。正确的结构是:间接宾语代词 me, te, le, nos, os, les 加上 gusta(单数事物)或 gustan(复数事物)。此外,喜欢做某事时用 gusta + 动词原形:Me gusta bailar(我喜欢跳舞)。绝对不要把原形动词变位:是 Me gusta leer,不是 me gusta leo。其他同样用法的动词还有 encantar(使着迷)、interesar(使感兴趣)、doler(使疼痛 – me duele la cabeza 我头疼)。这个结构是考试高频陷阱。

Remember: ‘A mí me gusta’ is for emphasis, not required. The ‘a’ phrase (a mí, a ti, a él…) clarifies who is pleased, but the me/te/le part is mandatory.

记住:’A mí me gusta’ 是为了强调,不是必须的。’a’ 短语(a mí, a ti, a él…)用来明确是谁感到愉悦,但 me/te/le 这部分是强制性的。

11. Muy vs Mucho, Bueno vs Bien: Adjective or Adverb? | Muy 与 Mucho,Bueno 与 Bien:形容词还是副词?

These pairs confuse many beginners. Muy means ‘very’ and is used before adjectives and adverbs: muy grande, muy bien. Mucho means ‘much/many/a lot’ and can be an adjective (mucho dinero, muchas personas) or an adverb (trabajo mucho, corre mucho). So: ‘I am very tired’ = Estoy muy cansado, not estoy mucho cansado. Bueno/a is an adjective meaning ‘good’ and agrees with the noun: un libro bueno, una buena idea. Bien is an adverb meaning ‘well’: hablo bien español, todo está bien. Never say ‘estoy bueno’ for ‘I am well’ – that can mean ‘I am good-looking’ or ‘tasty’. Use ‘estoy bien’ for state of health.

这几对词让很多初学者感到困惑。Muy 意思是“非常”,用在形容词和副词前:muy grande(非常大),muy bien(非常好)。Mucho 意思是“许多”,可以是形容词(mucho dinero 很多钱,muchas personas 很多人),也可以是副词(trabajo mucho 我工作很多,corre mucho 他跑很多)。所以:“我很累”是 Estoy muy cansado,不是 estoy mucho cansado。Bueno/a 是形容词,表示“好”,要与名词配合:un libro bueno(一本好书),una buena idea(一个好主意)。Bien 是副词,表示“好地”:hablo bien español(我西班牙语说得好),todo está bien(一切都好)。绝不要说 ‘estoy bueno’ 表示“我身体好”——那可能被理解为“我很帅”或“我很好吃”。表示健康状态用 ‘estoy bien’。

Rule of thumb: If you can replace ‘good/well’ with an adjective describing a thing, use bueno. If it describes how you do something, use bien.

经验法则:如果你能用形容词描述一个事物,就用 bueno。如果描述动作的方式,就用 bien。

12. Top Listening and Reading Traps | 听力和阅读中的常见陷阱

In WJEC assessments, examiners often test subtle differences in similar-sounding words or numbers. Watch out for: sesenta (60) vs setenta (70); catorce (14) vs cuarenta (40); quince (15) vs quinientos (500). In listening, time expressions are easily misheard: ‘Son las dos menos cuarto’ may be heard as ‘las dos y cuarto’ if you are not careful. Also, negative phrases like ‘no tengo ningún hermano’ mean ‘I have no siblings at all’, not ‘I have a brother’. Double negatives are correct in Spanish. Another common error is missing the small word ‘no’ before the verb. Practise listening for the ‘no’ and negative words like nunca, nada, nadie. In reading, pay attention to connectives (pero, porque, y, también, sin embargo) that change the meaning of sentences.

Tip: Underline negative words in the question and the text. Before answering, ask yourself if the statement is positive or negative.

技巧:在问题和文本中划出否定词。回答问题前,先问自己这个陈述是肯定的还是否定的。
